1973 280c Diesel Mercedes-Benz W114 Coupe

Wow! 1973 280c Mercedes-Benz W114 Coupe. I recently aquired this unique Benz as barn find while picking up another car. I was amazed to see a diesel emblem on the back of a 73 280c and had to ask " Is there really a diesel in that Benz? "  Sure enough there was and the owner was very excited to show me how great the car ran and started. Although this 280c is not 100% roadworthy it could be with little work. Engine and trans are  in good running condition but still should be serviced due to the lack of use over the last 10yrs. The brakes need work to make the car road worthy, no leaks but the pedal is a bit hard and the front passenger side brake caliper sticks. Emergency brake works but the brake light stays on in the instrument cluster.  All gauges are working including temp, fuel, speedo the clock however just makes noise. Aftermarket radio is installed and the origional radio is gone. Interior is all there with nothing missing. Seats are in decent shape. Dash has a crack and some heat damage but for the most part the interior will clean up.

DRIVETRAIN:
After some research I can't find any info that they made a 1973 280c witha diesel engine. I'm not sure of the engine model currently in the car or when it was installed and the conversion was completed. If it was converted they did a excellent job becuase everything looks factory and the fact all the gauges work with the diesel motor shows someone knew what they where doing. The engine has a block heater but even this morning being only 25degrees outside the car started right up. To start the car you first have to turn the ignition key to the on postion, then pull a leaver on the left side of the dash almost all the way out waite 30 secounds or so untill the glow plug light in the dash turns a burnt orange color. At that point you then pull the lever all the way out and she fire right up everytime! To turn off the car you push the lever all the way in and remove the key. Runs great and there is a idle adjuster located on the dash but I've yet to turn it. At start up theres little to no smoke also depends on how cold it is outside. Again with needing brakes I was only able to drive the car a short distance. It's slow and with one caliper hanging up it doesnt help. With a weekends worth of work and go over fluids this 280c could be a great driver.

BODY / EXTERIOR:
The exterior of the car is all origional and still has the origional paint at least what's left of it. Top sides of the Benz has large areas of thin paint which has leaded to some surface rust. Fenders, rear quarters, doors are all solid but there is areas with rust with no signs of every having body work or bondo. Passenger rocker has a whole the size of a dime. Also there are some rust bubbles hear and there. Floors are good except passenger side rear floor where it bends to meant the rear seat. I noticed it while the car was on a lift otherwise  the undercariage is solid but again is not perfect there is surface rust just normal wear for a 40+ year old car. Rear chrome around the window is missing. Windsheild is cracked.

INTERIOR:
All origional with exception to the radio. Seats are ok and could clean up. The worst part is the crack in the dash and the vent on the dash has been damaged from the sun. Check out the photo's.

Overall this could be a fun easy project for someone or with a little work it would be a great driver or fuel saver with the high mpg diesel engine.  The 1973 w114 280c where know for having carb problems. Being a diesel you can enjoy the classic 280c with the reliabilty of a diesel.  Clear Nj title. $500  Deposit due within 24hrs Balance due within 7 days. Pickup location is Berlin Nj 08009

2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

Make way for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, the most wonderfully preposterous car I have ever driven.
There is absolutely no reason why any two-seat roadster should be fitted with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 developing 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, but I sure am glad that Mercedes-Benz doesn't see things that way.
Drop into the leather-lined cockpit of this $213,145 provocateur, floor the accelerator pedal as I did over and over again, and 60 miles per hour falls in a traction-limited 3.9 seconds. Top speed has been electronically held to 186 mph (this apparently saves Gulfstream jet owners from embarrassment). Forget the SL550 and SL63 AMG, the valets will trip over themselves attending to the tycoon driving this thoroughbred - it's the real deal.

Mercedes to roll out S65 AMG Coupe in July

Mon, 07 Apr 2014

We're still a couple of weeks away from the public debut of the new Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe at the fast-approaching New York Auto Show, but already we're receiving word of an even more powerful version in the works. That, of course, would be the S65 AMG Coupe - the twelve-cylinder version of the latest S-Class Coupe, two-door counterpart to the S65 AMG sedan and replacement for the outgoing CL65 AMG.
Like the four-door version rolled out back in November, the S65 AMG Coupe would be distinguished from less powerful vehicles (which, lets face it, is just about everything) principally by its engine: a massive, 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 that produces 621 horsepower, 738 pound-feet of torque and cares as much about global warming as an oil-shipping mega-tanker.
Because Merc's 4Matic all-wheel drive system can't handle that much torque, the ne plus ultra coupe would (like the S65 sedan but unlike the S63 coupe) be offered only in rear-drive form. That means it will have that much more trouble getting the power down to the road, but since the Magic Body Control suspension is similarly incompatible with 4Matic, the flagship coupe will get that trick suspension.

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series [w/video]

Fri, 15 Nov 2013

The biggest misconception about the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series is that it's simply a higher-performing version of the SLS GT - a closer look, or better yet, a few hot laps on a high-speed racing circuit, reveals that is anything but the case.
Launched in the States in mid-2011, the standard SLS GT is a 583-horsepower, all-aluminum, gull-wing coupe with performance that positions it near the top of the exotic segment. While the AMG team at Mercedes-Benz could have left it alone, their experience with the SLS AMG GT3 race car said there was room for improvement, so they devised the SLS Black Series. The transformation from SLS GT to SLS Black Series is extensive, with no fewer than 17 different significant enhancements.
The engine mapping, crankshaft, connecting rods, valve-train, intake, exhaust and cooling are all modified and the engine's redline bumps up from 7,200 to 8,000 rpm, which pushes output of the hand-built 6.3-liter V8 to 622 horsepower. The power steering receives a new ratio, a coil-over AMG Adaptive Performance suspension is installed along with underbody braces, the track is widened, two-piece carbon-ceramic brakes replace iron rotors at each corner and a lightweight titanium exhaust is fitted beneath. The AMG Speedshift seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is modified and an electronically controlled AMG rear differential lock ensures the power goes to the pavement. Last on the mechanical upgrades are new lightweight forged wheels (10x19 inches front and 12x20 inches rear) wrapped in special R-compound Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.
