1958 Mercedes-benz 220s W180 Coupe Completely Restored on 2040-cars

Phoenix, Oregon, United States

We at Henry’s Foreign Automotive Service & Sales, Inc. are proud to offer you this 1958 Mercedes-Benz 220S Coupe. This car feels like it’s become part of our family as we began the whole restoration process back in early 2007. This project was supervised and completed by our late boss Henry. Henry was a true old timer who grew up with these kind of special vehicles. Our car was the subject of a complete, body off, nut & bolt restoration of all the mechanical and cosmetic components. The 220S Coupe lays airborne on our lift and every morning this brings joy to our eyes.

We have over 200 pictures of the restoration process from 2007. We also have almost 6 inches of service records, invoices, and notes documenting the whole project. Winner of the auction will receive all the paperwork and a thumb drive of all the pictures we have collected of our car. You will have enough of our previous notes to be able to restore it again after the next 50 years.

This Mercedes Benz “Ponton” W180 220S Coupe model was a rare bird indeed. Only 1,251 of these coupes were produced. Very few of these are still around today, especially in this condition. If you want a good history lesson, google mbzponton. As of today the odometer reads 2 miles after everything underneath the car was rebuilt. The engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, steering, and exhaust were all meticulously redone by our beloved Henry. Please ask for detailed pictures underneath, you will see true quality.

Our shop was modified to accompany the 220. Henry had to give the coupe its own space to have the proper attention she needed. In 2008 we purchased a lift that would only be used for the Mercedes. Even after we installed new tires we kept the car in the air to prevent any possible “flat-spots.”  We only drove it to the alignment shop for some final adjustments.

The interior is beautiful. We decided on a red interior styling to accommodate the black paint. You will be excited every time you open the doors. New carpet, new headliner, re-finished wood trim, the leather is new on the seats. Original stereo had been brought back to life. Everything is working as it should.

I have too many pictures to broadcast on this webpage. Please email me for additional pictures and albums of the restoration process, documentation, and the current pictures inside and out. We know you will love this car. We have clear NEVADA title. This is for a true collector, museum, or someone who will love this as much as we do.

You can call us at 541-535-1775. Let me know if you would like me to do a walk-around inspection of the car for you. I can email you many pictures underneath the vehicle. You are welcome to have a specialist come to our business and inspect the car for you. I have many more pictures I can email you slideshow links through photobucket.

Winner of the auction will be given our banking information for money wire. $1,000.00 non-refundable deposit is due to our PayPal account within 24 hours of auction end. Payment in full is due within 5 business days after the auction.

The car is currently located in Phoenix, OR

Mercedes-Benz to build new ML coupe-crossover in Alabama in 2015

Fri, 05 Sep 2014

Mercedes-Benz will expand its factory in Tuscaloosa, AL, to build the ML Coupe, a new crossover that will join its lineup in 2015. Mercedes will also ramp up production to build facelifted versions of the M-Class and GL-Class SUVs, lifting the factory's total production capacity to about 300,000 units annually in 2015. It made 185,000 vehicles in 2013. In addition to SUVs, the Tuscaloosa site also makes the C-Class sedan.
The plans come as part of Mercedes' strategy to capitalize on Americans' increasing demands for SUVs. The company said the SUV market was up 12 percent in first half of 2014, and expects it to grow at twice the rate of the regular market in 2015 and 2016.
"We are seeing climbing demand for SUVs." - Dieter Zetsche

Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG is Affalterbach's first big leap into the little pond

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

The recent history of AMG is turning out amped-up versions of Mercedes-Benz offerings that would hardly ever be mistaken for their sedate counterparts. Sure, you'd need to pay attention to pick a G-Class from the G63 AMG, but dual side-pipes are a quick giveaway. The Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG is not only a new era in Affalterbach's attention on smaller cars, it is probably also the most subtle transformation we can think of in the line-up.
Low and chunky enough in standard guise to make a sporting impression, the aesthetic makeover is confined to black trim around the lower rim of the hatch, black wheels with red brake calipers and a single, rectangular exhaust tip on either side of the diffuser. It's easier to make a positive ID inside, where the flat-bottomed steering wheel, red seatbelts and red-rimmed details say, "You know what I am..."
If the car is running, though, it won't take but a second. The 2.0-liter turbo spitting 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet will grumble through a sport exhaust at idle, and bellow through the same on it's way to a 0-60 time of less than 4.5 seconds. And if you need something that looks a little harder - and you want those quad pipes - then the A45 AMG Edition 1 is the treasure you seek. There's a press release below for all the info you'll need until the hot hatch goes on sale in Germany later this year, and photos for the rest of us while we wait to find out if we'll get a chance to buy it.

13-year-old boy swipes dad's Mercedes, drives across Europe

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

After an argument with his adoptive parents that resulted in them taking away his mobile phone, an angry 13-year-old boy ran away from his home in Italy and headed straight to Poland to meet his biological sister. But instead of taking the train or hitching a ride, like most on the run, the young man (an accomplished go-kart racer and car enthusiast) grabbed the keys to his father's Mercedes-Benz and jumped behind the wheel for an impromptu road trip.
With less than 200 euros (about $270) in his wallet and a passport in his pocket, the youngster managed to put more than 500 miles between himself and his distraught parents, crossing two international borders in the process, before German police nabbed him just shy of the Polish border. According to reports, the vehicle was tracked - it wasn't his driving that alerted authorities to his location.
Reunited with his mother and father, who traveled to Germany to retrieve both their son and the vehicle, the young man apologized and acknowledged his error. As a result of his actions, social workers will increase checks on the family and we can be sure his parents are now hiding the keys.
