This 1974 Mercedes Benz was part of the new generation of innovated Mercedes models built post war.  The W114/W115 models used a newly engineered chassis, not derived from preceding models.  The W114 received a facelift in 1973 - with a lower bonnet-line, lower and broader grill, a lower placement of the headlamps, A-pillar treatment for keeping the side windows clear, ribbed tail lights to minimize occlusion of the tail lights with road dirt, and larger side mirrors.  The interior received inertia reel belts and a new padded steering wheel with a four-hole design.  These upgrades made the 1974 not only look great, but a more safe vehicle.

For over 10 years I worked on a lot of high end cars and hot rods.  When it came time that I wanted to build my own car, I decide to go the opposite direction of everyone else restoring old cars and hot rods.  I have had a hand in building so many classic muscle cars that it just seemed boring to me at the time.  That is why I chose to restore a Mercedes (something different, but still classic).  I bought the car in Reno, NV about 10 years ago from a private owner, who had salvaged the car, the gentleman sold me the car under one condition, that I restored the car back to beauty, which I have done.  Now I'm at the point in life where my wife and I have a baby on the way and are relocating across the country.  Although it breaks my heart to sell the car, it is what's best for me and my family at this time.

As you can see from the pictures, this car has been gone over with a fine tooth comb.  I've replaced or rebuilt just about everything in and out, bumper to bumper.  The car has custom everything from the paint to the exhaust, MSD spark plug wires, Edelbrock air cleaner, Rockford Fosgate stereo system, immaculate custom interior in white pearl and red.  I took the rear bench seat out and replaced it with bucket seats, everything upholstered to match.  This allowed me to feature the subwoofer enclosure located in the trunk through a plexi glass viewing window.  The car has has custom chrome wire rims and tires, and I also have the ORIGINAL rims, tires, and hub caps that will be supplied with the car.  When restoring the interior, I also incorporated the ORIGINAL (intact) first aid kit into the design, as I felt this would be something that would be hard to come by.  There are so many extras that I can go on and on listing them, so if anyone is interested, feel free to give me a call.  775-450-2342.  Now to the downside, the car does have a salvage title, the transmission slips, so may need some service, and just recently I noticed that the rear drum brakes felt like they were grinding when I was backing the car up, so most likely they will need to be replaced.  I've never had the ac recharged since reassembling the engine, so this will need to be done as well.  This is the deal, these are the things I am aware of that need to be fixed on the car as well as the things I intended to do before we decided to make major life changes.  I've taken the vehicle to car shows and have had loads of positive feedback.  To this day, I receive compliments left and right on the vehicle, even when just taking my wife out to dinner.  This car looks awesome, feels great to drive, and is a lot of fun to own.  The beautiful red paint job and all the shinny chrome turns heads everywhere and is a great toy to have.

Next Mercedes-Benz C-Class to get diesel, hybrid versions

Tue, 16 Apr 2013

Mercedes-Benz is planning a more aggressive product strategy for its next-generation C-Class range. "We were fighting the 3 Series with two arms tied behind our back, and now we will change that," Steve Cannon, the automaker's US CEO, told Automotive News in a recent interview.
In addition to offering more body styles of the new C-Class, AN reports that the revamped Mercedes will also be offered here with hybrid and diesel powertrains. Currently, the C-Class comes in coupe and sedan variants, with only gasoline engines. The BMW 3 Series, however, is available as a sedan, coupe, convertible and wagon, and offers buyers the choice of gasoline, diesel (the upcoming 328d) or hybrid power.
Mercedes-Benz will show the next-generation C-Class at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, with sales of the US-built sedan following in August. Coupe, convertible and hybrid models will follow in early 2015, and while diesel and all-wheel-drive versions are planned, no specific timetable has been released regarding availability.

Carlsson turns Mercedes-Benz SLK into 610-HP hill-climb clawer

Mon, 28 Jan 2013

Carlsson's race-tuned versions of the Mercedes-Benz SLK have been taking checkered flags for years, and we won't be surprised if its SLK 340 hill climber fares any different. Developed by multiple German and Swiss hill climb champion Reto Meisel, the carbon-bodied SLK 340 with lightweight brakes and a closed underbody weighs 1,716 pounds. Propelling that tiny bit of weight is a 3.4-liter V8 from Judd with 610 horsepower, and it rolls on 18-inch wheels shod in Avon tires.
It will debut at the Geneva Motor Show before beginning its racing campaigns in the summer. This one won't just tear up roads in Europe, though - Meisel says he plans on bringing it to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The press release below has more details.

Mercedes Sprinter updated to take on Ford Transit, Ram ProMaster

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

By the end of this year, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter will be the second-oldest nameplate in its segment here in the States, but with hot new competition waiting in the wings, Mercedes-Benz is giving its hauler a freshened look and more equipment to stave off rivals. The Sprinter was a pioneer in bringing Euro-style delivery vans to North America, and it's inspired others to transplant their Continental offerings, with the all-new Ford Transit and Ram Promaster models launching shortly. It will also continue to do battle with lower-cost traditional competitors like the Chevrolet Express and Ford E-Series.
The big Sprinter will thus get a new look to go with more safety features and available technology. While the information released here technically covers the Euro-spec 2013 Sprinter (which goes on sale in September), the US market is expected to get the new Sprinter for the 2014 model year with many of the same features. Some of this new technology includes a Crosswind Assist feature as standard equipment and the availability of Collision Prevention Assist and Blind Spot Assist as optional safety measures - Mercedes-Benz says that all three are firsts for any van in the world. Also added to the updated Sprinter is a new 1.8-liter supercharged gasoline (or CNG) engine producing 156 horsepower, which will complement the line of diesel engines that carry over and help make the Sprinter the first cargo van to meet the upcoming Euro VI emissions standards. Additionally, a lower ride height is said to improve fuel economy and should improve handling while aiding ingress and egress for both people and cargo.
In terms of styling, the Sprinter's new face also looks more like the current line of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. This includes a more upright grille along with changes to the hood, headlights and bumper that lend it a closer kinship to models like the CLS-Class and the updated E-Class. The Sprinter will offer both halogen and HID headlights, while the latter will get LED running lamps and offer Highbeam Assist. The images shown here only reveal the exterior from front angles, but it looks like few, if any, changes have been made to the rear of the van. Interior upgrades include a thicker steering wheel, a new shift lever and the latest in audio, navigation and entertainment systems. Scroll down for the official press release for the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
