Narrative:

For your consideration, I present a very well preserved 1979 Mercedes, 240d.  As you can see from the pictures the vehicle is a wonderful mix of class, style, mildly customized historic example of German ingenuity.   Vehicle comes with original window sticker, books, manuals, and mounds, and I mean mounds of maintenance records. I consider myself a classic Mercedes enthusiast and having owned greater than 10 Mercedes over the years; I must say this is one ranks amongst my favorites.  As you know, these models are becoming harder and harder to find in this condition.  If Classic Mercedes diesels is considered the Rolex of vehicles, this is the Presidential series; a perfect mix of fuel economy and simplicity! The vehicle has manual windows, power sunroof, air, heat and an automatic transmission.

Now the details:

Interior and Exterior Condition:

The vehicle is appointed with a rare and original color combination- brilliant light yellow/tan with an even rarer light tan MBTex interior.    The paint and coachwork are in phenomenal condition and are entirely original.  The paint sparkles and the body has no traces of rust or bodywork; there is one small spot on the trunk lip which is illustrated in the pictures.   The dash is crack free as well as the wood appointments; even added a wood ashtray. Overall, I would rate the exterior an 8 of 10 and the interior an 8 of 10.

Upgrades and Customization:

·       Wood Ashtray

·       Passenger side mirror

·       European headlights

·       Disc changer in trunk with interior controls –have not used!

·       Chrome appointments (roofline, wheels wells, door handles, pin striping)

·       Mercedes chrome wheels

·       Rare OEM Sunroof air deflector

·       Chrome Grill

Mechanical Condition:

The vehicle functions and operates to Mercedes specification.   Engine fires up immediately and has never let us down, transmission shifts flawlessly on- time and smoothly.  There are no pronounced leaks or unsoundly engine noises and the vacuum system works great!

Highlights and Disclosures:

·       New tires- less than a year old

·       Incredible aesthetic condition; a real head turner!!

·       Air works and blows burrrr cold- compressor squeals intermittently

·       Heat blows hot but knob controlling defrost and face heat stuck on defrost

·       Paint and body near flawless

·       Interior shows wonderfully

·       Driver floor mat worn from high heels shoes

·       Odometer reads 152,xxx has been inoperable for the last year; estimated at 160,xxx.

·       Transmission seals were replaced in 2011

·       Engine was replaced with a 1981 engine with the new more efficient glow plugs and harness current approximate milage= 102k.

·       New belts and hoses

·       New alternator

·       Sunroof works but is slow on closure

·       Speedometer intermittent

·       Shows slight blow by on cold nights

Mercedes CLA45 AMG Racing is ready for a spot on the grid

Tue, 10 Sep 2013

Mercedes-Benz trotted out its CLA45 AMG-based racer at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. We first showed you the sedan in the deluge of news and reveals that precedes most good auto shows, and were blown away by the car, formally known as the CLA45 AMG Racing Series.
We were strolling by the Mercedes stand, and figured we'd pop in and take a look at the new racer and its carbon-fiber body panels, gutted interior, and race-sourced aero parts. It's a looker, both as a road car and a track weapon. It's not clear what series the CLA45 AMG will qualify for, although it does seem like a shoe-in for the World Touring Car Championship. Let us know what you think of the CLA racer down in the comments. In the meantime, we've got a full gallery of live images up top, along with the stock images that were posted last week on the Mercedes-Benz Facebook page.

First official shot of Mercedes S-Class Coupe leaks out

Mon, 10 Feb 2014

With the official debut for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe expected tomorrow, it shouldn't be a surprise that some clicky fingers have already managed to uncover an official image of the car before the unveiling. Outside of this sole image, though, there's precious little detail on the new car.
First posted by Autofilou and then picked up by WorldCarFans, the production S-Class Coupe isn't far off from the concept car we saw a few months back in Frankfurt. Like the concept, the leggy production model appears related, albeit distantly, to the S-Class Sedan. The hood and front fascia are longer and lower, befitting of a two-door, while the character lines in the profile are more pronounced. Obviously, the beltline and slim, B-pillarless greenhouse are coupe-only items. We can't see any details on the back of the car, although it does appear that the long hood has a correspondingly short rear deck.
We'll have all the details on the official replacement for the CL-Class when it makes its full debut tomorrow. Until then, what do you think of this lone image? Does it appear that Mercedes has got it right? In terms of design, where would you rank this with the departing CL-Class? Have your say in Comments.

Mercedes-AMG GT attacks Circuit of the Americas

Fri, 12 Sep 2014

Mercedes-Benz is having a banner year with its Formula One team. Through 2014, the constructor has 454 championship points; ahead of its nearest competitor (Red Bull-Renault) by a margin of 182 tally marks. We're sure they can almost taste the champagne.
It's fitting then, and a little big cocky in a good way, that Mercedes has released a video of its newest sports car at an F1 venue. In this case, the car is the lovely Mercedes-AMG GT S, and the racetrack is Austin's Circuit of the Americas.
Having seen the official photo set and scratched the surface of the technical specifications earlier this week, we're excited to finally hear the thing run. As you might guess, the deployment of 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque from the twin-turbo V8 is a motivating experience. Crank up your volume, and hit that play button. (Oh, and Mercedes shot the thing in 4K, too, so those of you with expensive televisions/monitors should take heed to the settings.)
