Offered for sale is an absolutely gorgeous, extremely original, excellent 1964 Classic Mercedes 220 (W111) Sedan finished in a luxuriant, deep and flawless Burgundy, paired with its original color of tan MB Tex interior (totally redone (at great cost) and new (see pics) and showing only 68,928 miles on the odometer, believed to be original and correct. Comes with original books and various receipts from over the years.

We purchased the car last year from its third owner who inherited it from his father. It was in a garage for apx 10 years. The car was in excellent cosmetic condition when we purchased it, but, being the perfectionists we are, we set about thoroughly going through the car cosmetically and, addressing any and every issue we could find. The vehicles original cracked seating/interior was fully replaced with original style new MB Tex on all seats, pull down arm rests and door panels. The carpets and original mats are in great condition. The interior looks like it just came off the assembly line. It even has the original working seat belts!

The car runs as well as any W111 220 Sedan we’ve ever had the pleasure of driving.

Perpetually elegant while remaining undeniably classic, the W111 “Heckflosse” (fintail) sedans are certainly one of the most beautiful and well-balanced cars Mercedes ever produced, epitomizing the mixture of graceful design lines and over-engineered, hand-built solidity for which the marque was - and is STILL - renowned.

Cloaked in subtly complex and wonderfully era specific rich burgundy, the car’s body is free of any evidence of accidents or bondo and is entirely straight with excellent, consistent gaps and panel fits. An extremely high quality repaint in the original color, the finish remains superb, deep and lustrous and free of any significant imperfections. The glass is all in excellent original condition for its age, wing windows work great and the chrome and rubber are virtually flawless, as are the original, color matched hubs, wrapped in white-wall tires with plenty of remaining tread.

The car’s interior is equally clean and entirely original - including the dash wood that runs across the bottom of the windshield, which has been recently oiled as required from time to time to renew its lustre. The seats show and feel like a new car should, the carpets are in fantastic original condition, the headliner is nearly flawless and interior panels are excellent and the rest of the original wood trim is gorgeous as well. A testament to our zealous refurbishing and maintenance, everything works – including, but not limited to the original Becker radio heat/defrost controls, all gauges and even the original Air Conditioning unit blows cold. The car is ALWAYS covered. There are NO cracks in the dash areas where you would usually expect the sun to be especially harsh. Not with this car. (The winning bidder will also receive its 5 layer custom reflective and locking car cover.)

The car’s undercarriage is entirely original, nearly entirely rust-free and solid, as are the wheel wells, jack points, trunk and trunk wells. The engine compartment is clean and well-sorted, housing the powerful straight 5 cylinder engine. In the interest of full disclosure, the only items of note would be some bumper chrome on the underside (non-visible) part of the bumper feels like it is peeling and I accidentally poked a fingertip sized hole in the top next to the sunroof while cranking it closed (see pictures). Otherwise, I would confidently rate this vehicle an 8 out of 10.

Starting easily when warm, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the gears, the engine has excellent, even compression. The car’s road manners are also fantastic, driving and braking straight, handling cleanly. Whether tooling through town on a weekend cruise or bombing down the highway at 80+ MPH, the car is an absolute joy to drive – modern enough to be comfortably enjoyed as a daily driver (although we feel
the car’s too nice for that fate), but also visceral enough to provide that great vintage ride quality. Whether its next
owner will be a weekend enthusiast or a serious collector, this gorgeous sedan is undoubtedly going to provide another 50 years of “pride of ownership” for it’s next owner.

Considering their rarity and the astronomical prices that their cabriolet siblings are fetching, these "Heckflosse" models have long been undervalued in most classic car enthusiasts’ minds. That’s not always going to be the case, so it is many investors opinions that they represent excellent investment upside. Finding clean and turn key classics such as this is hard enough as it is, but finding a cosmetically and mechanically excellent, very original and stalwart example such as this is truly a rare occurrence. Please bid accordingly.

We want this car to go to great home and would be happy to further discuss it and answer any questions, so please feel free to email us or call Gregg at 704-905-8269.

We’ve always had an appreciation for classic cars and over the years have sold an eclectic mix of high value investment grade vehicles. We only invest in cars that we’d personally be interested in owning and generally only sell them to make room for other acquisitions. That time has come for this Mercedes (if the price is right, of course – this isn’t a fire sale). We try to give accurate descriptions of the cars we’re selling, but we’re enthusiasts, not experts, and we encourage and are happy to help facilitate personal or professional inspections. But please do so before bidding, as the alternative harms our ability to make sales to other interested parties who have done their proper due diligence before bidding.

A 10% ($2,000 minimum) non-refundable deposit is required within 3 days of the auction’s end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end. Only the deposit may be paid through PayPal. The balance must be paid by Cashiers Check or wire. The vehicle and title will be held until all funds are verified and cleared. Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of the auction’s end under the terms shown above. Buyer is responsible for shipping, however we’d be more that happy to help with recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and we reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction’s end. Thanks for your interest.

Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG coming to the New York Auto Show

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

Mercedes-Benz showed off the CLA45 AMG at a private event on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show, but was determined not to let it be photographed. We can talk about it, though - after all, a teaser image was released to promote the new Sony game Drive Club. The CLA45 AMG will use the same powertrain as the A45 AMG, which means a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. And that means a small four-door coupe sedan with the highest horsepower-per-liter in the segment. It will shift through the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, should also run out of speed at 155 miles per hour and have that three-stage stability control system.
As with its hatch sibling, the CLA is already so aggressive on the outside - and the parent company so anxious not to demolish the sedan's 0.22 coefficient of drag - that not much has been done to the cranked-up CLA. Even the rather thin tires on the standard only get a little less thin on the hotter variant. Inside will be the telltale AMG signs, with lots of red detailing and that flat-bottomed wheel among the giveaways. We'll know more later this month when the wraps come off at the New York International Auto Show.

Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz makes some fine automobiles. The Silver Arrow'd cars are so good, apparently, that thieves can't help but try to steal them. The German brand is at the top of the charts for luxury car thefts in the US, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, with New York City leading the way. (And those New Yorkers complain about Detroit being bad!)
The C-Class was the most stolen model, with 485 ganked between 2009 and 2012 in NYC alone, while the E-Class and S-Class (which also boasted the worst recovery rate, at 59 percent) both finished in the top ten. Following the C-Class was the BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G. Not surprisingly, each of these were the most common models in their respective lineups. Los Angeles and Miami are also prime hotspots for luxury car thefts, according to the Detroit News report.
While getting your car stolen is pretty awful, there was one inspiring statistic compiled by the NICB - the average recovery rate across the board was 84 percent, with the Cadillac CTS getting recovered 91 percent of the time.

2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Coupe

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

Mercedes-Benz upgraded its SLS flagship Coupe and Roadster for the 2013 model year, and the changes are marked with them new "GT" nomenclature. Both SLS models arrive with a retuned naturally aspired 6.2-liter V8 delivering 583 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque (the horses are up from 563, but the torque remains the same) mated to a revised seven-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch gearbox. Rounding out the mechanical upgrades is a redeveloped AMG two-mode adaptive suspension. Physically, the revised models are differentiated by their new "GT" badging, darkened headlight/taillight buckets, red brake calipers, unique wheel colors and high gloss finish on the front grille, exterior mirrors and hood/fender fins. Inside the cabin are new red seatbelts, Alcantara upholstery and contrasting red stitching.
As it is nearly impossible to experience the aluminum gullwing beast on public roads, Mercedes invited out to Southern California's Willow Springs to wring out the 2013 SLS GT Coupe on a racing circuit.
