Beautiful Mercedes 300 Diesel Turbo 4 door sedan.
Recent Engine rebuild by Auto Sport in Seattle. Auto Sport rebuilds engines for the local Mercedes Dealer as well as engines for collectible cars all over the North West. Engine had new liners, and pistons that were balanced on a gram scale. The factory engines are typically not well balanced. Balancing the pistons in these diesels makes them amazingly smooth. Recent replaced exhaust valves and valve guides. Front suspension has good ball joints, track rod mounts and a new steering box. The steering is tight with no play. The Michelin tires are relatively new. The front brakes are new. Transmission has been rebuilt by an expert and a shift kit installed so that shift for every gear occurs at the right place in the power band of the engine. The clutches, bands torque converter and B2 servo were replaced also. This car shifts and drives better than 95% of the 300 turbo diesels on the road. The rear axel bearings and seals are new including new trans axel boots. This is no easy job. Climate control works great has a new compressor, hoses and expansion valve and has been converted to R134a refrigerant. About 5 years ago the car underwent a full restoration paint job. The glass, doors trim, fenders. hood. trunk lid were all removed, stripped to white metal and painted with epoxy primer then painted with 11 coats of paint including 4 coats of base coat "color" then 3 coats of clear coat. Everything was put back together and using all new door gaskets, windshield gaskets and other rubber parts. Also included are a pair of mounted snow tires. Car has been well maintained and has maintenance records. This is a beautiful car with no rust or damage. |

Man makes record-setting drive across the US in 28 hours, 50 minutes
Fri, 01 Nov 2013Records, as the say, are made to be broken. Whether that's cramming the most hot dogs down your gullet, running a faster mile, or yes, driving across the United States, odds are that there's someone out there wants to eat more, run faster or drive harder. Speaking of that last example, the record for driving from a set location on the east coast, in particular the Red Ball Garage in Manhattan to the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, CA, has been one that has fascinated gearheads since a guy named Cannonball Baker made the trek from New York to LA in 53 hours, 30 minutes, in 1933.
The competition saw its glory days when Car and Driver's Brock Yates came up with the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (more affectionately known as the Cannonball Run), although the record was most recently set by Alex Roy and his 32-hour, seven-minute trek behind the wheel of a BMW M5 in 2006. Now, there's a new champion, who made the trip from east to west in a scarcely imaginable 28 hours and 50 minutes, behind the wheel of a 2004 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG. That's works out to an average speed of 98 miles per hour over the course of 2,813.7 miles.
His name is Ed Bolian, and Jalopnik has a writeup of the epic voyage that details everything from the history of the Cannonball Run to Bolian's preparation and trouble finding co-drivers, to the trip itself. It is well worth a read.
First official shot of Mercedes S-Class Coupe leaks out
Mon, 10 Feb 2014With the official debut for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe expected tomorrow, it shouldn't be a surprise that some clicky fingers have already managed to uncover an official image of the car before the unveiling. Outside of this sole image, though, there's precious little detail on the new car.
First posted by Autofilou and then picked up by WorldCarFans, the production S-Class Coupe isn't far off from the concept car we saw a few months back in Frankfurt. Like the concept, the leggy production model appears related, albeit distantly, to the S-Class Sedan. The hood and front fascia are longer and lower, befitting of a two-door, while the character lines in the profile are more pronounced. Obviously, the beltline and slim, B-pillarless greenhouse are coupe-only items. We can't see any details on the back of the car, although it does appear that the long hood has a correspondingly short rear deck.
We'll have all the details on the official replacement for the CL-Class when it makes its full debut tomorrow. Until then, what do you think of this lone image? Does it appear that Mercedes has got it right? In terms of design, where would you rank this with the departing CL-Class? Have your say in Comments.
Highlights from the Goodwood Festival of Speed, including the McLaren P1 and a Ford Transit running the hill
Mon, 15 Jul 2013The sole purpose of this post is as a time-waster, and since you shouldn't have to work to waste time, we've done it for you. In the numerous videos below you'll find cars that have lately been in the news tramping all over the grounds of Lord March's estate in Goodwood, England.
There's the McLaren P1 heading up the hill, the Jaguar Project 7, then a casually-driven Porsche 917 followed by an even-more-casually-driven Porsche 956, topped off by a Porsche 936 that is anything but casually driven. The next round is the flame-spitting Peugeot 405 T16 Pikes Peak from Climb Dance, a camera mounted on the Peugeot RCZ R after it showing you what the whole, uninterrupted run up the hill looks like. For a real head-turner, we couldn't embed it but there's Andy Reid blasting up the hill in a Ford Transit Supervan with a Cosworth 3000 V6 engine.
The modern racing contingent has Allan McNish doing the hill in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro he used to win Le Mans and Lewis Hamilton making lots of tire smoke in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas MGP-W02. For comparison, that's followed by Nick Heidfeld's record-setting run up the hill in 1999 in the McLaren MP4/14 . The classic racing contingent is headlined by 71-year-old Giacomo Agostini on an MV Agusta.
