Mercedes-benz 300 Sel 1970 on 2040-cars

Year:1970 Mileage:89000
Location:

King George, Virginia, United States

King George, Virginia, United States

This was my dad's car. After his passing in 1991, the car was shipped to me from Switzerland. I was a principal in a body shop/garage for seven years from 1999 until 2006. Early (2001approx) the car was stripped to bare metal and repaired and painted the original color. Both front fenders were removed and worn portions were cut out and new metal was used in the repair. All trim was removed (belt moldings, body side moldings, weather strip, door handles, grill, vent trim, bumpers, all bright work as the British refer to chrome. All new body side moldings were purchased, including retainers. Bumpers front and rear were sent out for minor straightening and chrome application. The front wind shield had a crack and was replaced at this time. The car was professionally primed and repainted in a state of the art down draft booth, base coat and clear coat . A minimum of wet-sanding and buffing was required. Since that work the car has been garage kept in a climate controlled garage.
Since that time, not in chronological order the following has been performed:
       A) Air suspension bladders at all four corners have been replaced
           a) all valving and flex hosing has been replaced, (under hood master valve, front left and right leveling valves, rear leveling valve, {3} flexible hoses at front of vehicle)
      B) Transmission has been removed and all drive bands replaced, valve body disassembled and cleaned, all clutches steel plates inspected and filter and fluid changed.
      C) Water pump replaced
      D) Rear brake hoses, left and right replaced.
      E) Brake master cylinder replaced.
      F) Intake manifold gasket and fuel injector seals replaced.
      G) Complete exhaust system replaced
      H) Battery relaxed.
      I) Full tune up, plugs wires, cap, rotor replaced.

This is how I would grade these areas of this car:
     Body and paint 8.5/10
     Interior              8.5/10
     Mechanical       9.0/10
     Chrome            9.0/10

This was a European purchase. My dad took care of his cars. I spent 35 years taking care of other people's cars. As is done in adoptions, i would like to vet prospective buyers to see that this car goes to a good home, I am a realist and realize that this is not practical. I am at the age whereIi need to get rid of some thing that others may have more use for. If things were different, i would choose not to sell my dad's car. Please ask questions before bidding. I will assist the buyer with any shipping details, however any and all expenses related to this topic are the responsibility of the buyer. This was a car used in Switzerland and there is no need of air-conditioning there as a result the one thing this car is NOT equipped with is factory air-conditioning. The radio is a Blaupunct (sp?) and receives short wave and an odd array of stations that are not what most people will care for. Please look at the photos and ask questions as they arise before bidding.

Mercedes Sprinter updated to take on Ford Transit, Ram ProMaster

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

By the end of this year, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter will be the second-oldest nameplate in its segment here in the States, but with hot new competition waiting in the wings, Mercedes-Benz is giving its hauler a freshened look and more equipment to stave off rivals. The Sprinter was a pioneer in bringing Euro-style delivery vans to North America, and it's inspired others to transplant their Continental offerings, with the all-new Ford Transit and Ram Promaster models launching shortly. It will also continue to do battle with lower-cost traditional competitors like the Chevrolet Express and Ford E-Series.
The big Sprinter will thus get a new look to go with more safety features and available technology. While the information released here technically covers the Euro-spec 2013 Sprinter (which goes on sale in September), the US market is expected to get the new Sprinter for the 2014 model year with many of the same features. Some of this new technology includes a Crosswind Assist feature as standard equipment and the availability of Collision Prevention Assist and Blind Spot Assist as optional safety measures - Mercedes-Benz says that all three are firsts for any van in the world. Also added to the updated Sprinter is a new 1.8-liter supercharged gasoline (or CNG) engine producing 156 horsepower, which will complement the line of diesel engines that carry over and help make the Sprinter the first cargo van to meet the upcoming Euro VI emissions standards. Additionally, a lower ride height is said to improve fuel economy and should improve handling while aiding ingress and egress for both people and cargo.
In terms of styling, the Sprinter's new face also looks more like the current line of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. This includes a more upright grille along with changes to the hood, headlights and bumper that lend it a closer kinship to models like the CLS-Class and the updated E-Class. The Sprinter will offer both halogen and HID headlights, while the latter will get LED running lamps and offer Highbeam Assist. The images shown here only reveal the exterior from front angles, but it looks like few, if any, changes have been made to the rear of the van. Interior upgrades include a thicker steering wheel, a new shift lever and the latest in audio, navigation and entertainment systems. Scroll down for the official press release for the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

New Die Hard movie wrecked 132 cars in $11 million chase scene [w/video]

Sat, 16 Feb 2013

It would seem the act of dying hard brings with it lots of wanton destruction of the four-wheeled kind. According to John Moore, director of A Good Day To Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, There were 132 (cars) that could never be used again. Another 518 required a lot of work. And damn right there were some good cars there... That's the fun of it."
Please join us in one great big collective sigh. Done? Okay, let's continue.
"With Die Hard it's about how audacious the action is," says Moore. "So you have to drive over a Lamborghini. An actual one. And yes it hurts me. I'm a car fanatic." Yeah. Sounds like it hurt really bad... though not as bad as the final tally after all the carnage had been counted: "Someone showed me the numbers on the car chase and soup to nuts, you put it all together it was like an $11 million sequence."

Highlights from the Goodwood Festival of Speed, including the McLaren P1 and a Ford Transit running the hill

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

The sole purpose of this post is as a time-waster, and since you shouldn't have to work to waste time, we've done it for you. In the numerous videos below you'll find cars that have lately been in the news tramping all over the grounds of Lord March's estate in Goodwood, England.
There's the McLaren P1 heading up the hill, the Jaguar Project 7, then a casually-driven Porsche 917 followed by an even-more-casually-driven Porsche 956, topped off by a Porsche 936 that is anything but casually driven. The next round is the flame-spitting Peugeot 405 T16 Pikes Peak from Climb Dance, a camera mounted on the Peugeot RCZ R after it showing you what the whole, uninterrupted run up the hill looks like. For a real head-turner, we couldn't embed it but there's Andy Reid blasting up the hill in a Ford Transit Supervan with a Cosworth 3000 V6 engine.
The modern racing contingent has Allan McNish doing the hill in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro he used to win Le Mans and Lewis Hamilton making lots of tire smoke in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas MGP-W02. For comparison, that's followed by Nick Heidfeld's record-setting run up the hill in 1999 in the McLaren MP4/14 . The classic racing contingent is headlined by 71-year-old Giacomo Agostini on an MV Agusta.
