Uninhibited. When you think about the milestones Mercedes-Benz has set during the history of the automobile, a
clear pattern emerges. From trendsetting style to groundbreaking safety, the heritage they collectively created has
always been one of thrusting history forward. It’s evident in the way every element of a car transforms not just
itself but the entire motoring world — as imagination gives birth to innovation, optimism begets opportunity,
and engineering sparks emotion. It’s something that’s both visible and tangible in the CL‑Class. Its airy
pillarless profile embraces the sumptuous four-seat cabin without closing in on it. And it composes rigid standards
in performance, comfort and safety into an openly jubilant driving experience. Mercedes-Benz only makes the four
models of the CL‑Class in limited numbers. That’s precisely why they feel unconstrained by the limitations of
ordinary cars. And it’s how they set your inhibitions free as well.
An advanced 429‑hp biturbo V‑8 rushes the CL 550 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. 2 Its paddle-shifted 7‑speed
automatic has been engineered for crisp, smooth and efficient shifting. Its semi-active AIRMATIC suspension
expertly balances comfort and handling, while featuring 4‑wheel level control and a selectable Sport mode.

Maybach officially discontinues all models for 2013
Tue, 14 Aug 2012The word "Maybach" has joined the long list of synonyms for the word "kaput." Mercedes-Benz released the price list for the 2013 models of its super-luxury sedans, with the price column simply stating "Discontinued" for each one of them.
The 2012 models, should there be any left for 11th-hour buyers, maintain the increased MSRPs that Daimler slapped on them late last year after it was known the brand would be terminated next year. But you might still be able to wrangle that $100,000 rebate if you ask nicely, or in Russian, or have Rick Ross ask for you.
It shouldn't be too long before we see the ultimate version of the next generation S-Class, the S600 Pullman, that will replace Maybach. Intriguingly, it's said the Pullman will be offered with every S-Class engine, even the four-cylinder diesel.
Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing doesn't sell, then does sell for $1.85 million [UPDATE: w/video]
Sat, 19 Jan 2013How much extra value does previous celebrity ownership add to of a car? Really, there's no way to know until the car in question hits the auction block and bidders start raising their hands. In the case of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing you see above, the celebrity owner is none other than Clark Gable, who purchased it new. After Gable's death in 1960, the car changed hands a few times before settling with Charles Wood in 1975.
A high-dollar restoration was performed in 1989, and period accessories added by Gable himself were kept in place, including the Rudge knock-off wheels and Nardi steering wheel. Any Mercedes-Benz 300SL is worth a big chunk of money. In the case of Clark Gable's old Gullwing, the bidding stalled at $1.9 million here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. As one of the 5000-series cars, this 300SL carried a reserve, and a bit of after-the-fact dealmaking saw the car change hands for $1.85 million.

Mercedes S-Class Magic Body Control ad is clucking awesome
Tue, 24 Sep 2013This is a new ad from Mercedes-Benz. At no point does it show an automobile. Instead, it stars animals, but not the sort you might normally see in car commercial. This ad is all about chickens. It is bizarre, to say the least, with Diana Ross and the Supremes belting it out in the background, but it all kind of comes together when you realize just what Mercedes is hawking (yeah, pun intended).
It's for the manufacturer's Magic Body Control, found on the new S-Class. The system basically analyzes the road and prepares the suspension accordingly, leading to a ride that is, in the words of our own Chris Paukert "nothing short of spooky." You can read about it in our full review of the 2014 S550. Take a look below for the 53-second spot.
