Stuart, Florida, United States

A one-owner 1985 Mercedes Benz 300 SD  S-Class turbo diesel.   This S-Class diesel has only 122,800 miles.  It has always been garaged, never any smokers, no accidents, rust or bdy work.  The Astral silver exterior is like-new.  The car has never been to an auto car wash, and has always been handwashed.  The dark blue leather interior is in excellent condition, with no rips, tears, or wear marks.  The MB 300 SD has been dealer maintained since new.   The tires are new with only 2000 miles.   The Mercedes battery is two years old, and comes with a built in battery maintainer.  The diesel engine also has a factory block heater.  Equipment includes power windows, power seats, cruise control, and power sunroof.  The stereo is an AM/FM cassette from the factory.  Weather band is included, as is a power antenna.  I purchased this fine Mercedes Benz from a dealer in Maryland, and kept the car at my home in Annapolis, MD until bringing the car to my home in Stuart, FL in 2005.   It has alway been garaged,  and has been well cared for since new.  A car phone was installed in 1985, and it still mounted in the car, but is inoperable at present.   The turbo diesel has plenty of power, and gets approximately 26 mpg on the highway.    This  S-Class Mercedes is one of the finest models Mercedes built.   The ride is firm, but luxurious.  At car shows, this fine automobile always gets high marks.   While not a show car, it is as nice as a 1985 daily driver can get.  Among some of the recent upgrades are new brakes, new engine mounts, and new tires.   The car is comfortable, quiet, safe, and economical.  There are no scratches or dents. There is one parking lot ding on the right rear door.  And the windshield has a small chip smaller than a dime.   The air conditioning system needs to be recharged.  And we upgraded the headlights to brighter, sharper fixtures.  Amber fog lamps are great at night or in rain or fog.   If you want a fine, classic Mercedes Benz sedan, here is a fine example of an S-Class sedan.

AMG-powered Aston Martins still years away

Mon, 16 Sep 2013

After flirting for several years, Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin have finally tied the knot. Just don't expect to see any offspring to result from the union for at least three or four years.
This according to Auto Express, which spoke with Daimler chief Dr. Dieter Zetsche at the Frankfurt Motor Show last week. AE reports that a new range of AMG-developed turbocharged V8s, transmissions and electrical components will make their way into the successors to the current V8 Vantage and DB9, but that these models are still a few years off.
Purists might balk at the thought of a Mercedes-powered Aston holding true to the brand's heritage. But while David Brown (for whom the DB range is named) may have steered clear of shoehorning in Detroit muscle into his cars, the entirety of the company's current range is powered by engines borrowing technology from Ford, and that arrangement seems to have worked well for Aston until now. And if you're still skeptical, look no further than Pagani and its AMG-sourced engines and you should have all the proof you need that the new relationship between Daimler and Aston could be a success.

Mercedes making aggressive plans for Chinese market

Wed, 28 Aug 2013

Mercedes-Benz is preparing a major product offensive to counteract lagging sales in the Chinese market, aiming 20 new or updated models at the People's Republic in the next two years, according to a report by Reuters. The plan is part of MB's so-called 2020 Initiative, which will see the Stuttgart-based manufacturer dump 2 billion Euros ($2.67 billion) into its Chinese market vehicles in a bid to boost sales to 300,000 units by 2015.
Were it to succeed, China would become the largest market for the Silver Arrow, outpacing Germany and the United States. Leading the charge will be the redesigned E-Class, which is set to launch in China this week. That will quickly be followed by the S-Class, and eventually by the GLA-Class in 2014.
Mercedes has struggled in China, especially relative to its German competition, BMW and Audi. Where Mercedes saw a mere four-percent increase in 2012 sales to 206,150 units, Audi was up a staggering 32 percent, while BMW's numbers jumped 41 percent. While some voices, according to Reuters, accuse Munich and Ingolstadt of boosting their numbers through hefty incentives, the fact remains that Mercedes was just walloped by its competitors last year.

Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz makes some fine automobiles. The Silver Arrow'd cars are so good, apparently, that thieves can't help but try to steal them. The German brand is at the top of the charts for luxury car thefts in the US, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, with New York City leading the way. (And those New Yorkers complain about Detroit being bad!)
The C-Class was the most stolen model, with 485 ganked between 2009 and 2012 in NYC alone, while the E-Class and S-Class (which also boasted the worst recovery rate, at 59 percent) both finished in the top ten. Following the C-Class was the BMW 3 Series and Infiniti G. Not surprisingly, each of these were the most common models in their respective lineups. Los Angeles and Miami are also prime hotspots for luxury car thefts, according to the Detroit News report.
While getting your car stolen is pretty awful, there was one inspiring statistic compiled by the NICB - the average recovery rate across the board was 84 percent, with the Cadillac CTS getting recovered 91 percent of the time.
