Wonderful original 280 SL
a true survivor

Finished in fabulous 268 H  Dark Green with rare matching green interior, this incredibly original Mercedes 280 SL still has most it's original paint,
with a reported 40 k miles in the hands of just 2 owners,it has never been restored.
Original paint, panels, floors and undercoating, are a rare feature of this car, add to that the car has that has never been steamed cleaned
or has had any kind of tarting up done to it. it is truly unique.
This theme runs throughout this vehicle, the engine is as it should be for a car of this age, no quick engine detail done here with shiny lacquer.
Just a wonderfully orginal engine bay with the correct grime and apart from a new alternator, new air conditioning compressor, a few new hoses
and clips, it is all as it left Factory. Check out the original fenders with Factory spot welds in the engine bay, even the "eyebrows" are there.
The car runs, drives, stops and rides superbly. Everything on the car works, from the heater controls to the ice cold A/C.
Please ask all questions before bidding, this is an exceptional car that deserves an appreciative new owner. Please bear in mind that although
the car is in incredible condition for it's age, and must be one of the very best examples available, it is not a new car, nor has it been restored,
as such it will have some imperfections commensurate with age, use and mileage.
Note that an immediate deposit via Paypal is required, and the balance within 3 days, NO EXCEPTIONS, unless arranged ahead of time.
All tests, inspections and reports to be done prior to auction ending, NOT AFTER.
If you are not prepared to follow these simple instructions, then please do not bid.

Online Find of the Day: Lexus-engined Mercedes pickup is a vintage hybrid

Tue, 16 Sep 2014

You have to love someone who gets incredibly committed to a very weird idea. What you see for sale here is a right-hand drive 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220D in South Africa, but this old Mercedes is now converted into a pickup, complete with bed cover, and there's big secret under the hood, too.
The pickup conversion appears well done based on seller Sedgefield Classic Cars' photos. Even the tonneau cover fits well. You could almost believe that this Mercedes lived its life as a Chevrolet El Camino-like pickup from the very beginning.
However, the rear-quarters conversion might not be the weirdest thing about this Mercedes. The original diesel is gone from the engine bay in favor of a Lexus V8. It seems really odd to pop the hood and find a Japanese mill in this German car, but the photos make it look like a fairly well performed swap. So, bravo to the crazy thinking. According to the seller speaking to Autoblog by email, "as far as we can establish, this was done a few years ago, with all Lexus components."

Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept crossover leaked ahead of Shanghai debut

Wed, 17 Apr 2013

With just a few days left before the start of the Shanghai Motor Show, images of the Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept compact crossover have emerged online. The little 'ute is based on the small A-Class hatchback, and though it shares an identical wheelbase, is larger in every other dimension.
Looking like a rough-and-tumble five-door hatchback on the tippy toes of its 20-inch wheels, the GLA is most certainly destined for production in a toned down form that will borrow many bits and pieces from other cars based on this platform like the aforementioned A-Class and the CLA-Class sedan. Carscoop reports that the production version of the GLA will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September of this year, with sales to the public starting in 2014.
Since it's based on the A-Class, we expect that the production GLA-Class will be powered by your choice of Mercedes' 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and a diesel or two, and will offer transmissions that include the company's seven-speed DCT and perhaps a six-speed manual (at least in Europe). If the GLA follows the same path as the two cars before it, expect a GLA45 AMG producing over 300 horsepower, as well. As for what powers the GLA Concept, that just might remain a mystery until the vehicle is officially revealed in China.

2014 Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid for fat cats frugal with fuel

Thu, 12 Sep 2013

Judging by how long we waited to get a clear shot of the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid, you'd have thought hybrid cars were only driven by Terminators and that the technology arrived only 48 hours ago through a wormhole in the Mercedes stand. The newest member of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class hybrid band - joining the S400 Hybrid and S350 BlueTEC Hybrid, it hits notes like a 5.5-second sprint from standstill to 62 miles per hour, up to 19 miles of ion-powered running and uses three liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers in Europe (78.41 mpg US, but our mpg test cycle is different than their mpg test cycle).
The lump up front is a turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6, the lump in back - note the reduction in trunk space - is a pack of lithium-ion batteries that juice an 80-kilowatt electric motor. Other than having four drive options for controlling electric drive and battery usage, it's all S-Class all the time, with leather-covered everything and those mountainous thrones that bring to mind words like "Archduke" and "Papal."
You'll find our hard-earned gallery from the Frankfurt Motor Show floor above, and more words of information in the press release below.
