1964 Mercury Comet Cyclone on 2040-cars

This is a very rare 1964 Mercury Comet Cyclone two door hardtop. Pacific Blue with white interior which were both original colors of the car. It has the 289 K code engine with a C4 automatic transmission. Restoration was done approximately 15 years ago. The interior was reupholstered with the original color and the vinyl matches the original pattern. This included the seats, doors, and headliner. The door and trunk gaskets were also replaced. All of the glass is good and windows roll up and down. Added to the engine is an Eldelbrock intake, and a Ford dual point distributor. The original radiator had been replaced with a 3/core. I also have the original parts that were taken off of the engine that will go with the car, including distributor, intake, valve covers, etc…(I do not have the original radiator). Everything pictured will go with the car, including the original steel rims and stainless hubcaps, the set of rally wheels and tires, and the mag wheels that are currently on the car. The car is a very nice driver, is very clean and has been well maintained. Carpet is clean and chrome bumpers are very nice. All of the gauges work except the temp gauge which has been replaced with an aftermarket one. Heater, AM radio and factory mounted dash tach all work. The car is NOT perfect, it does have some scratches and nicks. There are a few small bubbles around the wheel wells and some cracked paint where the rear bumper attaches to the car. Underneath and frame of car are pretty clean. There are a few areas that have showed some wear, but nothing at all major. I actually wouldn’t even touch it. Again, this car is a driver. The car could use a tune up and probably a set of points. It will also need an emergency brake cable. The one that is on it has frozen up. It does not have the windshield washer fluid bag or the pump. It could also use a neutral safety switch. You must make sure the car is in park or neutral every time that you start it. I never had an issue with these things not being replaced, so that is up to you. For a 15 year old restoration, the car is extremely nice and very fun. I can send more pics upon request. Ford recalling 370,000 Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Town Car models
Fri, 30 Aug 2013The Detroit News is reporting that Ford will recall some 370,000 Crown Victoria (pictured), Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car vehicles from model years 2005 through 2011, for an issue regarding the lower intermediate steering shaft. 355,000 of the vehicles in question were sold in the US, with the other 15,000 sold in Canada.
The report indicates that corrosion of the lower intermediate steering shaft could cause a "loss of steering," presumably because of a partial or complete failure of the part. The report points out the dealers will inspect and replace the offending steering component for recalled cars, and may also secure a lower steering column bearing and replace the upper intermediate steering shaft as needed. The company is unaware of any reports of the faulty part causing any accidents or injuries.
Ford helpfully lists states in which corrosion is more likely to have taken place, mostly in the Snow Belt, as you might guess. Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia are listed.
Ford recalling 126,000 Fusions and Milans over wheel separation concern
Fri, 09 Dec 2011Ford has announced a recall of certain Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles after an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A total of 128,616 2010 and 2011 models equipped with steel wheels may have been manufactured with wheel studs that could crack and split over time. If that happens, the vehicle may experience a wheel separation.
According to The Detroit News, the company is aware of a total of 30 wheel separation incidents, one of which occurred on the front of the vehicle. Even so, no injuries have been reported as a result of the defect.
The problem apparently stems from the fact that the mounting pads on the vehicles' steel wheels may have been faulty from the factory. In addition, the wheel mounting face on rear disc brakes may not have been installed properly. Ford will inspect the rear disc face and replace them as necessary. Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday
Mon, 04 Oct 2010Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
