For sale: 1971 Mercury Cougar XR7 429 Cobra Jet Ram Air "J" Code Automatic car.. 1 of 138..
I have had this car stored inside for 23 years and car hasn't been tagged for 27 years.. I don't have the time or space to restore this car anymore so I'm selling.. Car does "NOT" have the original motor or transmission but has the original rear-end.. Car does have a non running 429 4v motor and C6 transmission in place of original motor and transmission.. This is a non driver that needs to be restored.. The odometer reads 11,639 and I'm sure it exceeds that.. A lot of the hard to find and expensive are on car, ram air assembly, original exhaust manifold, engine brackets, pulleys, fan & spacer, radiator & shroud and ac components.. This car has the typical rust for a cougar with the worse rust in the rear quarters.. The original interior is all there and I have a very good condition dash pad that goes with car.. Also included with this car is a 1971 Cougar XR7 "M" code 4-speed parts car minus motor and transmission.. Parts car has several good parts that can be used to restore the "J" code Cougar.. The parts car in pictured in last 2 photos..

Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage
Mon, 03 Jan 2011The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.

eBay Find of the Day: Craterface's '49 Mercury convertible from Grease
Wed, 29 Jan 2014Here is your chance to own your very own piece of greased lightning. Well, not the Greased Lighting, it's actually the black, flamed 1949 Mercury convertible that races against John Travolta in the classic 1978 movie Grease, and it's for auction on eBay Motors.
While it appeared in the film's exciting drag race in a Los Angeles storm drain, the hot rod was reportedly lost until last year, when the seller found it as a shell. He verified that it was the actual car with original builder, Eddie Paul, and sent the car for a complete restoration.
The auction includes original parts like the exhaust tips used in the movie and bent bumper from when it hit Travolta's car in the scene. The restorer recreated the scorpion stickers on the doors, razor hubcaps and license plate. He also installed a 1949 Mercury 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter), flathead V8 and three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
