Cougar Xr7 Factory Black 3-speed Power Disc Brakes on 2040-cars
College Park, Maryland, United States
Original 1968 Cougar XR7 with 3-speed transmission and power front disc brakes. Rare factory black with saddle XR7 interior (1 of 263 per Cougar By The Numbers). Good floors and frame rails. Excellent battery tray, shock towers and engine side panels. Doors close good. Decent glass with no cracks. Some rust in torgue boxes (see pictures) and some rust in lower rear quarters (especially passenger side) and trunk drops. Solid trunk floors. Original sheet metal and nice front grill. Original 302 engine long gone. Has a 1970 351 4V Cleveland heads and 1972 block in it from the 1980s that was rebuilt but piston size was incorrect causing motor to seize after a few miles due to tight pistons. Then never put back on the road. The heads were taken off at that time but never reinstalled and placed back on the road, so the car sat in a garage for 30-years. Good headers and dual exhaust. Nice thick rear sway bar installed just like a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang. Been sitting for years so needs work to run again. No drive shaft, radiator or carb. Whats you see is what you get. Looks like solid original paint. No factory vinyl top! Make a nice project in Darth Vader black. Factory door tag and window VIN plates in place. Clean Maryland title. I reserve the right to end auction early. Sold "as is" and I expect full payment in 10-days. No Reserve!

Report: Lincoln getting all of Mercury's ad dollars
Mon, 03 Jan 2011Now that the curtain has closed on Mercury, Ford Motor Company will redirect all of its marketing dollars for the oft-overlooked brand to the Blue Oval's luxury outpost, Lincoln. In speaking to Automotive News, the chairman of the Lincoln National Dealer Council, Bob Tasca, Jr., said, "You'll see a lot stronger presence in the advertising of Lincoln in 2011."
Lincoln spokesperson Christian Bokich reminded AN that the automaker is "preparing the way for seven new or significantly refreshed vehicles" that will be launched over the next four years, and the largest ad blitz in 2011 will focus on the refreshed MKX crossover, as well as the MKZ sedan and its hybrid counterpart. Following that, Lincoln has plans to launch a completely overhauled version of its Navigator SUV, an all-new C-segment vehicle and the overhauled 2013 MKZ, which Tasca says will be "strikingly different from its Ford Fusion sibling."

Ford announces free brake pad offer if customers stop by dealers
Mon, 04 Aug 2014These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers.
"We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts.
Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1.
Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line
Wed, 05 Jan 2011The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.
