1964 Austin Mini Cooper S Rally Car on 2040-cars

Year:1964 Mileage:11469
Location:

Ames, Iowa, United States

Ames, Iowa, United States

This is a great little Mini Cooper S rally car.  It can be used on the street, in road rally, in a vintage road race, or a rallycross.  This is the vehicle that can do it all.  The engine sounds like a race engine but is not too loud to be driven on the road.  I would say half as loud as a Harley.  The car starts up every time and has a battery cutoff switch mounted between the seats.  You will not find a better prepared period car.

Included is the Heritage Certificate, a two binders full of all of the email correspondence, receipts and hand written notes and diagrams about the restoration and history of the car.  As well as the plates it wore when in Georgia, Texas, and Iowa.  There is also a photo album documenting its time in Hong Kong showing the build of the engine and its transportation in crates and on trucks.  The only difference between this car and the works cars you are used to seeing is that this one is was painted green during the last restoration.

Production Mini Rocketman still in the cards, but not without a partner

Mon, 02 Dec 2013

There's not really any way around it - the new Mini Hardtop isn't all that mini. Considering its supposed to be the smallest model in the brand's lineup, this is hardly desirable. It's good news, then, that rumors are cropping up of a smaller Mini, based on the well-received Rocketman Concept that debuted in 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show.
The report, which comes from our friends at AutoGuide, claims that a production Rocketman is still on the radar of Mini's product chief, Pat McKenna, despite being officially on hold. As Mckenna explained it to AG, "the only way it would happen would be if it was a partnership with another company."
See, the problem is that Mini's current UKL platform, which underpins the new Hardtop along with the future Mini range, is too large for the tiny Rocketman. And since developing new platforms isn't as easy as popping down to the shops for a gallon of milk (nor as cheap), it makes the need for an ally to split the costs a necessity. Success, so far, has been limited.

J.D. Power: Mini, Lexus again offer most satisfying sales experience

Thu, 29 Nov 2012

JD Power has released its annual Sales Satisfaction Index Study, and once again Mini and Lexus have taken top honors. Overall, buyers are more satisfied with the auto-buying sales experience than they were last year, with those surveyed reporting an average score of 664 points on a 1,000-point scale. That's up from 648 in 2011. Dealer satisfaction also increased by five points over last year as well.
All told, Lexus brought home an index score of 737, which was high enough to put it atop the luxury brands for the second year in a row. JD Power says Infiniti came in second in that category with a score of 728 and Cadillac rounded out the podium with it's rating of 725. Speaking of Infiniti, that brand saw the single largest jump in sales satisfaction of any brand on the survey, popping up 52 index points over 2011.
Among mass-market brands, Mini ranked highest with a score of 712, followed closely by Buick with 706 and GMC farther down the line with 683. You can check out the full press release below for more information.

Mini Paceman Adventure photos arrive by the trucklette-load

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

Yesterday, we brought you the news of the existence of this Mini Paceman Adventure tiny truck, and the story of how it came to be. Long story short: it was a lighthearted collaboration between apprentices and instructors at parent BMW plants in Germany. The mini-sized pickup bed and off-road kit may not make the Paceman All4 actually practical, but we'd argue that they do make the one-off fairly loveable.
Apparently the Mini photographers agree with that "loveable" part. We'd heard that there were some better, higher-resolution images of the Paceman Adventure on the way, but we didn't expect there to be hundreds of them. But as you can see, the shooters went out and thoroughly documented the pickup, shooting it in several locations, still and moving, and documenting some of its construction as well. Find your favorite in the massive gallery of images, above.
