This listing is for a vintage 1972 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser with a 350 Golden Rocket engine. This car has been my daily driver for almost two years and had no intention at all of selling it up until now and it is only because we are planning to move across the country and have too many other things to worry about transporting.

In the last year or more I have given the Vista Cruiser new springs and shocks, some new ball joints, new aluminum radiator and stainless hoses, new battery, new alternator and oh yeah...new duel exhaust with flame throwers! (Exhaust pipes shoot three foot flames at the push of a button.) I'm sure there was a few more new things to mention but at the moment that's all that's coming to me.

Now let me mention some of the details that may need some attention...the roof... It is a Vista Cruiser, so of course it leaks around the vista windows as expected. I did put caulking all around the windows and it stopped for awhile, but it started up again and now it has black duct tape over all the seams as a temporary fix, as well...but that is failing too. The floor is still solid, but the leaking must be stopped to keep it solid, of course. There is a large rust hole in the rear storage compartment and where the spare tire would normally be stored. Some of the driver's door liner had water damage near the bottom and rotted off...but the rest of the doors seem fine. Headliner is in great shape but some of the plastic trim has cracks or pieces that fell off. Seats are good with the exception of the drivers position of the front bench seat, it has some tears. Someone cut the dash to fit a CD player in and didn't do a great job...and the speakers are just sitting on the ground at the front of the seat, but it all works, just not really loud enough to hear over the glass pack mufflers.

Tires are pretty good right now, brakes seem good, carpet looks new. The hood is fiberglass and comes completely off when looking at the engine. I do have the original luggage rack for the roof with its trim pieces and will be including it in the auction.

There is a slow coolant leak that I am assuming is coming from the lower hose, which is new, but maybe not tight enough or something... The back door has some rust and there is some rust on the quarter panels down low near the front doors that I have been waiting to get to work on, but now we're moving. There was spiderwebs and pin-striping hand painted all over the car that I recently sprayed over with black paint. The flames, webs and pin-striping just seemed a little too much. I just did a temporary fix, not meant to look great.

There is a lot of small details that I will not be able to get around to mentioning, good or bad, so please ask any questions you need. The car is being sold as-is because it is just a used personal item and I am in no position to offer guarantees, etc. I love this car, but it is too big of a hassle to take it with me..so it is being sold as what it is..an old car that needs a new loving owner. Oh yeah..the door keys don't really work other than on the drivers side...and that is, when the car feels like letting you unlock it..sometimes it's just not in the mood. If you live within a two hour range I would think it should be no problem picking it up and driving it home..but it has that slow coolant leak, so I'm not sure I would risk longer distances until that's fixed. Thanks for checking out our listing!

Please see photos for details/condition and email me with any questions. Because this is a used vintage item, it will be sold as is. All sales are final. Thank you for looking!

Ferrari FF pitted against Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser in crazy Generation Gap comparison

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

The folks behind Generation Gap have lost their minds with this latest video. The goal here is to determine the ultimate family cruiser, but the choices are what you would least expect, with a heavily modded 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser going up against a 2012 Ferrari FF.
You might anticipate an over-40-year-old Oldsmobile to pale in comparison to any modern Ferrari, but this wagon has a ton of secrets under its skin thanks to Lingenfelter. First, it packs a supercharged LS3 V8 with a claimed 650 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox. That big upgrade in power is further helped with air suspension and massive Wilwood disc brakes. The result is nothing short of deafening, with blaring yelps whenever the driver even nudges the accelerator.
The alternative sounds just as good, albeit in very different way. The Ferrari's 6.3-liter V12 pumps out 651 hp and 504 pound-feet with a part-time all-wheel drive system. While the FF lacks a lot of the hauling ability of the Olds, it makes up for the deficit in handling, luxury, and in many eyes, simply by having the famous prancing horse on the grille.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.
