I have decided that it is time to move on to a new project.   I have owned my Duster for 5 years.   The car was originally from Hemet California,  and I had it shipped back to Michigan when I bought it.   When I purchased the Duster it had a poorly installed 318 with the original slant 6 suspension and brakes.   The entire car was rebuilt mechanically and returned to a slant 6 with the goal of being a reliable and efficient daily driver.  The speedo was in-op when I purchased it and I have since replaced it with a better condition one so the mileage of the body is unknown/assumed to be >100k.

in 2010 the engine compartment was Media blasted and repainted the original Bahama yellow.  I rebuilt and installed a 225 slant six forged crank engine and transmission from a 1972 Dart.   The engine was rebuilt and the solid lifter cam was replaced with a hydraulic cam and cylinder head from a 1982 engine.   The exhaust manifold is a newer mid 70's piece in great shape with no cracks that has been coated.  (the original manifold had a gasket for the carburetor thermostat that would fail often creating an exhaust leak)   The single barrel carburetor was replaced with a complete Super Six setup with a rebuilt carburetor and complete factory kickdown linkage from a 1976 F-Car.   The air cleaner is a 1971 single snorkel air cleaner that would be correct for a 1971 318.  This is a very smooth and the quietest running Slant six that I have driven.

The following parts have been replaced/upgraded:

Re-cored 22" Radiator (correct for an A/C 225 slant 6)

New shoes and drums front and rear (9" drum w/manual brakes)
New shocks

New Tires (~15k on them)

Installed original wheel lip moldings

Installed an original Duster Twister / Duster 340 Shark Tooth Grill

Replaced original chrome outside mirror with painted mirrors from a Duster Twister

Completely overhauled the Heater Controls with a new vacuum switch, vacuum canister, heater core, rebuilt heater box with new gaskets.

Replaced the entire interior with new seat covers, arm rest pads, dash pad, carpet, package tray, headliner.   (the door panels are original)

Replaced the original power steering box with a manual steering box/steering shaft.

Added an original Mopar electric trunk release and glove box mounted switch.

New PPG windshield and gasket.

The original AM radio was rebuilt with an IPOD 3.5mm headphone input cable.  (AM does not work,  but the AUX cable works perfectly)   Single dash speaker replaced with a 3 way speaker.

The Duster has proven to be very reliable and I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere  (I have put 15,000 miles on it over the last 3 years),  with 18-20 MPG on the highway.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
