1960 Pontiac Catalina

4 Door Hardtop

My pops is almost 74 years young and is running out of space and the time to drive all these old cars and the upkeep they need, so it is time to sell a few......

This is a 1960 Pontiac Catalina that hasent been driven much in the last 5 years or so although has had a bunch of work done.

Prior to being parked the Pontiac had a fresh Cadillac 500 engine installed along with a brand new turbo 400 transmission. Power steering, Power brakes. The interior was done with all new carpets, new headliner and all new upholstery. The brakes were new and all new shocks were installed. The radiator was also new. The Body is pretty straight and looks to still have all its original chrome and stainless, and the only rust seems to be a little in the trunk floor. All the windows go up and down, the car starts right up and sounds great although a little loud with headers/mufflers and no tailpipes. I drove this car around the block and it runs great,  starts right up with no rattles or smoke, lots of power,  shifts, stops straight, lights/heater/horn all work although the wipers didnt come on. As this car has been parked and not driven, with expired tags for some time I would recommend you trailer it home and do a complete once over and check everything out before you would consider it a daily driver. The paint is usable and does have a little shine but could use a new coat of wax to give it a fresh look... although it was painted years ago and was a cheap job then.

We are selling this car at no reserve

If you have any questions you can call my dad direct, and he will try to answer them.  Bud 541-420-9588

I will be listing his 1950 Cadillac Hardtop in the background next week. It runs and drives and my pops just drove it 60 miles last week.

Lutz says Washington killed Pontiac, next G6 was to be ATS derivative

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

How many people think Buick or GMC should have gotten the axe instead of Pontiac? You can't see it, but I'm raising my hand. Autoweek reports that former Vice Chairman of GM, Bob Lutz, has indicated that things didn't have to end up the way they did.
"The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.'"
In a talk given at the Petersen Automotive Museum for the Inside the MotoMan Studio series, Lutz says "The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.' So, it goes. And when the guy who is handing you the check for $53 billion says, 'I don't want Pontiac, drop Pontiac or you don't get the money,' it doesn't take you very long to make up your mind." Lutz even added that the next-generation Pontiac G6 would have benefitted from the rear-wheel-drive platform of the Cadillac ATS. How awesome would that have been?

GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.

How to turn a Pontiac Fiero into a trackday car

Fri, 17 Oct 2014

Imagine hitting the track in a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe that's affordable and has pretty good parts availability. It might sound like a pipe dream, but it's actually quite possible, if you're willing to think a little outside the box. The Pontiac Fiero is out there just waiting for a little work to turn it into a competent racing machine.
Think about it for a second. Of course, we would all like to be snaking through the curves in something exotic, but what happens when you crash or something breaks? The bills are going to mount up quickly. However, if you ball up a Fiero at the track, as long as you're not hurt, then it's not a huge tragedy.
That's basically the story of Steven Snyder in a new video from Drive starring Matt Farah. Snyder wanted to go to the track cheaply and ended up with an awesome little Fiero with a huge wing and a claimed 220 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a V6 from a Chevrolet Lumina. Check out the video to see how this pint-size Pontiac performs.
