1979 Pontiac Firebird Espirit Redbird Edition on 2040-cars
Breinigsville, Pennsylvania, United States
I searched for this car for many many years and finally found one locally. A month later I found out I was being relocated for my job to the west coast. Yes I could take it but with a new job position, new home, new area, etc. it will not get the attention it deserves thus the reason for selling. If I cannot get what I am asking, I will surely take with me. The previous owners did a restoration on the car which is very good. Please understand it is not a SHOW CAR by any means but an exceptionally nice daily driver. Paint is newer (few years) and interior is almost perfect. The odeometer reads 32,000 miles however the title states TMU (true mileage unknown) due to age. Thus I have no idea how many miles are truly on the car. I was the told the drivetrain is original and has the 301 2 barrel engine. The car is special in that everything is there and not ripped out like so many of these 2nd generation cars had done. I had to spend roughly 2K after purchasing to fix some issues. It is currently under a classic car insurance policy with agreed value of 9,000.00 The PA inspection and emissions are good until 6/2014. The car has a new exhaust system, weather stripping, tires and many other recent suspension items. Please email me with more questions or send your phone # and I can call you to discuss. **Please note you must come see the car and go to a local notary to do all paperwork. No exceptions or shipping. ** |

Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way
Tue, 21 Feb 2012There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.
Looking back at Oprah's free-car giveaway 10 years later
Fri, 12 Sep 2014
Oprah kicked off her 19th season in dramatic fashion by giving all 276 members of the studio audience a free car.
Molly Vielweber's Pontiac G6 appears unremarkable at first glance. It wears forest green paint, rolls on five-spoke aluminum wheels, and it has a sizeable scrape in the driver's side door, the scar of a decade's worth of hard use. You wouldn't notice it parked at a big box store or cruising on the highway. Pontiac made hundreds of thousands of G6s in the 2000s, and a lot are still on the road. It's unremarkable in every way except for the front license plate, which reads, "Oprah 6."
Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes
Thu, 10 May 2012When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
