See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"95 percent. needs very little to be complete show quality car. all pans were professionally replaced in 04 at the same time a dakota digital dash was installed and a turbo 400. later someone put 373 gears into the posi rear end. pontiac historical lists the car as a firebird 350 that was originally the rare limelight green. if i keep the car it will go back to that color but i'll add black t/a stripes and keep the t/a look.i'd rather see someone else have it, though. i had a 71 poncho 350 built last november and i've driven this car so little that i only did the first oil change about a month ago.the headliner needs to be finished and a couple of bubbles near the fender louvers need to be cleaned up and touched up eventually. install an a/c if you want to. i didn't , i did install a 1000 watt amp and a box with two 10 inch subwoofers to fill the sound from the sony 6x9's out a little better. turn heads wherever you go and you don't have to rev the engine to get the looks."

i traded a 69 torino gt convertible for this car knowing the engine was blown.  it's just clean and it has some records of what had been done to it.  when you buy these old cars you don't get much documentation usually.

anyway, i went through two pontiac motors that had bad blocks before i found one that had been machined and the owner never picked it up.  i bought it and between the three engines i had the brackets, timing chain covers etc.  i picked up a few things from butler performance and jegs.
it's a 71 350 .040 over with heads that were milled.015 or .020 (i can't remember) in 06 when it was abandoned.  since it's .040 over instead of .030 over i'm guessing this is a second build and the head may have another .015 off of them too.  that would make 6 to 7 cc's gone from the giant combustion chambers and would bring the sug up from 7.6:1 to maybe 8:1 c/r.  still runs fine off of pump gas.
the body is in 99 percent condition.  a couple of chips and a bubble or two.  the interior is in 80-90 percent.  they stopped when they were doing the headliner and there are a coupl of small cracks in the dash.  everything works.  lights wipers etc.  the driver side bright bulb doesn't burn and the passenger side front turn signal doesn't blink (probably a bulb and i'll fix it this weekend if it is).  all glass and chrome is in very good condition, window fels are in good condition, glass all goes up and down.  it's a really nice car.  it could stand a coat of wax because it hasn't had one in a year.
buyer is responsible for shipping.  500 dollar PAYPAL ONLY deposit is required immediately after the sale and is non refundable.  the balance is due within three days of the end of the auction.  if you can not follow those rules please don't bid.  i had this car sold before and the buyer didn't want to use paypal but would wire me the money after i handed him my banking information.  not going to happen.  don't waste our time or mine trying to scam me.
this is a nice car, i have people stopping by every week claiming they want to buy it.  i've turned down 15,000.  i know what it's worth.  i play with these old cars all the time.  you don't find them this straight outside of barrett jackson very often.
i will consider partial trades.  i need a one ton flatbed for my farm.  must be clean and have everything in working order. don't care if it's gas or diesel.

NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.

'67 Chevy Corvair convertible vs. '86 Pontiac Fiero in cult classic showdown

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

Every few a decades, the folks running General Motors lose their minds briefly try to market a car that public doesn't see coming and often aren't ready for. In the '60s there was the rear-engine, air-cooled Chevrolet Corvair, then the mid-engine Pontiac Fiero in the '80s and the completely bizarre Chevy SSR in the 2000s. What all of these had in common was that they bucked the trend for American models of their era, for better or worse. The latest episode of Generation Gap tasked the hosts with finding two cult classic vehicles to choose between; they came come up with two of these quirky products from The General.
On the classic side, there's a 1967 Chevy Corvair Monza convertible. Being from later in the production run, it wears slightly more aerodynamic styling than the earlier, boxier examples. Hanging out back is an air-cooled, 2.7-liter flat-six pumping out a robust 95 horsepower. In the other corner is the somewhat more modern 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE with a mid-mounted, 2.5-liter "Iron Duke" four-cylinder, an engine nearly ubiquitous in GM cars of the '80s.
Judging by when they were new, the Corvair was far more successful than the Fiero with over 1.8 million sold. Of course, Ralph Nader's book Unsafe at Any Speed kind of poisoned the well, even if the poor safety reputation wasn't entirely deserved. The Fiero on the other hand only lasted for a few model years before shuffling off, but it eventually got its own performance boost with the V6 version and rather attractive GT models. Check them both out in the video and tell us in Comments which you want in your garage.

STUDY: Ford owns brand loyalty in 2009; Scorned Saturn, Pontiac buyers will look outside of GM

Fri, 16 Oct 2009

Ford buyers appear to love their cars more than customers of any other automotive brand, returning back to the American automaker when it comes time to purchase their next vehicle. According to a study by Experian Automotive, six of the top 10 vehicles for customer brand loyalty wear badges from the Blue Oval. That includes the Ford Fusion (62.4 percent), Ford Edge (57.9 percent), Ford Five Hundred/Taurus (56 percent), Ford Freestyle (51.9 percent), Ford Escape (49.4 percent) and the Ford Focus (47.57 percent).
Other vehicles making up the top 10 include the Toyota Prius (52 percent), Chevy Impala (51.7 percent), Toyota Camry (47.8 percent) and Toyota Corolla (47.56 percent). This brings up an interesting question: With the closing of automotive brands like Saturn and Pontiac, where are those buyers to turn for their next automotive purchase?
Apparently, not back to General Motors. According to Experian, Pontiac owners are most likely to look to the Ford lineup for their next car or truck and Saturn shoppers will switch to Toyota or Honda - not particularly surprising given that Saturn was meant to compete with import brands. Experian predicts that GM's overall market share will fall from 20 percent to about 17.5 percent, with most of the slack being picked up by Ford, Honda and Toyota.
