1970 242 GTO hardtop. All original Phoenix car includeing factory build sheet. Car was painted burgundy years ago and has mostly faded away to reveal alot of the original mint turquoise paint. Factory sandalwood interior with buckets and console all intact, seats require recovering, headliner missing. Sandalwood vinyl top has been gone for years to reveal the perfect rust free roof. Floors, trunk and rear window channel are all like brand new  without a speck of rust. Left quarter panel has a few very small rust holes, right fender has a small rust patch at bottom (pictured). Left fender dented at front and at door, left door has minor damage at front. Endura bumper has alot of sun cracks throughout but has not been hit and is repairable. Rear valance is perfect, hood is perfect, front valance needs work, windshield is cracked. Currently has a 350 motor and trans from a 1975 firebird, runs well, shifts well, brakes are funtional but not great. The motor and trans are the only non original items on the car, Rally 2 wheels, a.c. rear swaybar, WF code rear end, original exhaust tips still intact. The factory build sheet was retrieved from under the gas tank. Freemont California built, clean notorized Utah title. Although the paint is very faded from all of the years in the Arizona and Utah sun this is still one of the cleanest GTO bodies I have ever seen. The pictures speak for themselves. Only in Arizona can a car be preserved like this, no rust issues, only minor repairs needed to make this body prestine again. Reserve is set low for the quality of this car, selling  only to complete other projects. Car is for sale locally as well, I reserve right to end the aution at any time. Please call @ 602-748-8024 for questions or email at e7paul@gmal.com  Paypal, bank wire transfer or cash in person are only forms of payment accepted. $1000 downpayment required within 48 hrs. of auction ending. Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.

General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]

Fri, 26 Aug 2011

You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.

eBay Find of the Day: 1967 Pontiac GTO Monkeemobile

Sun, 29 Apr 2012

Say what you will about The Monkees, but the guys in the band had great taste in automobiles. Take the Monkeemobile, for example. Built off a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible, the custom featured genuinely interesting bodywork and some wild engine bolt-ons. If you're a fan of 1960s pop and yearn to relive the genre's glory days, eBay Motors may have what you need. A recreation of the 1967 Monkeemobile has showed up for auction. This particular replica was built by Dakota County Customs using an four-speed GTO, just like the original.
Built for the band's 45th anniversary and the final Monkees tour last year, this Monkeemobile is faithful down to every last detail. Unfortunately, the trumpet exhaust poking out of the front fender wells and the massive gold-flake blower are for show only. Seems fitting.
If you like what you see, this machine is up for bid in Richfield, Minnesota with two days left on the auctions. So far, bidding as whipped up to $60,000 with the reserve not met. Head over to eBay Motors to have a look.
