PLEASE DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU HAVE THE FUNDS ALREADY AVAILABLE TO COMPLETE PAYMENT IF YOU ARE THE HIGH BIDDER AND WIN THE AUCTION.  THANK YOU

This auction is for a gorgeous 1969 Pontiac GTO hardtop with the extremely rare Ram Air IV engine and the Muncie close-ratio 4-speed transmission. Verdoro green with black interior. New seat covers, carpet, headliner, door panels and weatherstrips.  The dash has a couple cracks, most noticeable is above the glove-gox door.

This GTO was a professional, frame-off restoration a dozen years ago and only needs minor touch-up to be a show winner now. We have the complete PHS documentation packet.  Please see the pics for a scanned copy of the PHS factory invoice.

Factory options include:
Power steering.  Power disc brakes.  Factory clock (working intermittently but not reliably).  NO tachometer or gauges (kind of odd, but that's how it was ordered and built).  Power antenna with AM radio - both working well.  Ride and handling package with stiffer springs and shocks.  Rally II wheels with NOS trim rings and caps.  Wheel opening moldings and rocker moldings.  Factory cast-iron headers.  Power trunk release.  And the legendary Ram Air IV engine option which included the higher-performance engine and also the functional Ram Air system of air pans and scoops and seals that allows the engine to draw in cooler air from above the hood for better performance.

The undercarriage is dusty from storage and we haven't taken the time to have it cleaned yet.  The spiral shocks and all suspension has minimal use since the restoration was finished.  The tires have excellent tread but are well over a decade oldNo high-speed blasts would be recommended until they are replaced.  They do squeal nicely when you accelerate!

The factory invoice indicates that this GTO was also built with a console and door-edge guards, which are no longer there.  The doors do have the original holes drilled for the door-edge guards, so we believe that the doors are original to this GTO.

Factory built with the 4.33:1 safe-t-track heavy-duty rear end with "N" nodular center and carrier and forged axles - the best rear-end GM ever built - and still in place today.

Of the 64,851 GTO hardtops Pontiac built in 1969, only 549 GTOs were equipped with the Ram Air IV engine and Muncie 4-speed transmission. The Ram Air IV is the pinnacle of performance for Pontiac, made only in 1969 and 1970 before Pontiac's compression ratios were lowered in 1971 due to demands from the insurance companies and new regulations from our government.

Rare? Let's talk about rare. We've been told that this is one of only 12 Ram Air IV 4-speed hardtops built in Pontiac, Michigan that was then exported for sale in CANADA, however there is no printed documentation of this.

Excellent shape overall.  The engine was totally rebuilt and runs like new using a Service Replacement (SR) Ram Air IV block with the original '722' heads,
original '9796614' Winter's-foundry-marked aluminum intake manifold with separate exhaust crossover and heat shields and factory cast-iron, high-performance exhaust manifolds.

Body and paint need a few minor repairs - the paint has about ten chips and a pressure dent about 5" by 8" on the right rear quarter (directly above the wheel well) that should pop out, but the paint there has also cracked.  The most noticeable detraction is that the lacquer paint on the hood is checked and cracked - most likely because of the fumes from the crappy fuel we have to use - and the described chips in the paint elsewhere which we have tried to show in the detail pics.  These are only visible from certain angles and are invisible from about ten feet away.  It may be that the paint is just getting older and needs to be refreshed.  Rear bumper and all stainless and chrome trim is bright and shiny.  Right now the paint is still nice enough to show off at cruise night without being paranoid about putting the first chip in the new paint.

The factory Hurst shifter has just been rebuilt and adjusted, so it works crisply.  Transmission makes no odd noises, shifts well both up and down and is in great shape.  We did notice yesterday that the front seal on the transmission has developed a slight leak - this will be repaired before the GTO ships.  If you would rather deal with it on your end - we can work something out.

I also want to point out that there IS a spare tire, lug wrench and bumper jack included with the GTO, on a basic Rally II rim.  Nothing spectacular, just a spare tire (an OLD spare tire).  The jack's BASE is currently missing - I've been searching for it for about a week but it is still avoiding me at the moment.

We reserve the right to end the auction early, even if the reserve has been met, as this GTO is for sale locally and is also advertised on several other venues.

We also reserve the right to cancel ANY or ALL bids for any reason we deem fit.

Spring has arrived - do you have something REALLY fun to drive this year?  Let's fix that right now!

There are over one-hundred additional pics available.  Email me for the photobucket address.  (I can't figure out how to add the link to the auction and eBay is not that helpful when trying to do so.)

I can also get pics of any specific detail you wish to see, but don't please email asking for ninety close-up pics of the lug nuts or something goofy like that.

Personal inspection can certainly be arranged once your identity is verified and we are comfortable with your intent.

Now our additional auction terms:

No picture collectors.
No joyrides (until after paid in full).
No prepaid shipping.
No pirates (and I really like pirates, but they're not too reliable).
No North Sea oil rig workers.
No Nigerian princes or princesses.
No Bulgarian money-launderers.
No other scams, please.

If you want to impress your friends and consider yourself a serious potential buyer, send me an EMAIL with a telephone number AND an email address that I can reach you at so we can discuss.  DON'T send me an email that asks "Is IT still available?"  Let me know, in your FIRST email that you are interested in the Ram Air IV 1969 GTO if you expect me to take the time to answer.

I am more than willing to do a walk-around inspection while speaking on the phone with you.

Out-of-country inquiries welcome, but will be scrutinized carefully.

I CAN assist with getting this rare and gorgeous 1969 Ram Air IV GTO to Long Beach (or some other California port) for export, if desired.  I will also work with you and your transport company to make the GTO's journey to your garage painless.

Thank you for taking the time to look at our auction and GOOD LUCK!!!

On Jun-18-14 at 22:25:42 PDT, seller added the following information:

PLEASE READ - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR INTERESTED PARTIES:

I have had considerable interest in the car, both via eBay and locally here in Vegas due to exposure in other advertising venues.  I have already had FOUR potential buyers take the time to come out and inspect the car since Sunday, with another inspection taking place tomorrow.  All were impressed with the car and one of these five will probably end up being the new owner come Sunday (or possibly sooner).

Several of these interested parties have told me, both in person and via email, that they plan to wait until this weekend to bid.  I really think that this might be a mistake.  If my gut feeling serves me well, the auction is probably going to be cancelled prior to the ending time on Sunday because some of you are REALLY serious about being the one to get this verdoro green beauty home into your garage.

There are several of you watching who live in CANADA and want to repatriate the GTO.  I think that would be really cool and actually would prefer to sell it back to someone from Canada - call me romantic or whatever you wish.   <]:^D

Anyway, if you have more than just a passing interest in the car, please let me know so we can discuss it or get a bid in before it is too late.  I'd hate to see you wake up on Sunday and find that I sold the car Saturday night while you were snoozing.....  :^()         .     I'm just sayin......

As mentioned, delivery within a reasonable distance (500ish miles) could be arranged in my enclosed 20' trailer with the cost for delivery negotiated into the sale.  I would enjoy a nice road trip.

And finally, I must have checked something wrong when I listed this auction because it says I will only accept bids from within the United States - nothing could be further from the truth.  I will sell this gorgeous GTO to absolutely ANYONE, ANYWHERE, so long as we can figure out payment arrangements and get it shipped to them.  If you reside outside the USA and have not been able to bid, please email and let me know.  I can cancel the auction and restart it and allow world-wide bidding.  I don't know if this has been a problem for anyone reading this note, but, if it has, I sincerely apologize for the error.

Again thanks for your interest in this beautiful muscle car and GOOD LUCK!!

Lutz says Washington killed Pontiac, next G6 was to be ATS derivative

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

How many people think Buick or GMC should have gotten the axe instead of Pontiac? You can't see it, but I'm raising my hand. Autoweek reports that former Vice Chairman of GM, Bob Lutz, has indicated that things didn't have to end up the way they did.
"The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.'"
In a talk given at the Petersen Automotive Museum for the Inside the MotoMan Studio series, Lutz says "The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.' So, it goes. And when the guy who is handing you the check for $53 billion says, 'I don't want Pontiac, drop Pontiac or you don't get the money,' it doesn't take you very long to make up your mind." Lutz even added that the next-generation Pontiac G6 would have benefitted from the rear-wheel-drive platform of the Cadillac ATS. How awesome would that have been?

GM repairing 40,500 Pontiac Vibes as part of Toyota airbag recall

Wed, 09 Apr 2014

General Motors has confirmed to Autoblog that the Pontiac Vibe is included in Toyota's just-announced recall action. The Vibe and the Toyota Matrix share a large number of parts, including the affected cable to the airbag.
"About 40,500 Pontiac Vibes from the 2009-2010 model years are included in the Toyota recall. Toyota designed and engineered the Vibe for Pontiac. GM will service customers with these vehicles when Toyota makes the parts available," said GM recall spokesperson Alan Adler to Autoblog in an email.
The recall covers 1.3 million Toyota units in the US, including 2009-2010 Corolla, Matrix and Tacoma, the 2008-2010 Highlander, the 2006-2008 Rav4 and 2006-2010 Yaris, plus the addition of the 2009-2010 Vibe. The models all have their airbag module attached via a spiral electrical cable. The connections on this cable can be damaged when turning the steering wheel. Once broken, the airbag deactivates and the airbag warning light comes on. Toyota has an improved part, but it's still making preparations to begin repairs. It will begin notifying owners soon.

Watch this garbage truck consume a Pontiac Grand Am

Wed, 15 May 2013

When an old car or truck offers its dying breath in your driveway and you just don't have the financial or mechanical wherewithal to resuscitate it yet again, you traditionally have to go to the trouble of calling a flatbed or a tow truck to come haul it away. That usually helps to put a few bucks in your wallet and helps recycle some of the vehicle's parts, but the transaction doesn't seem as final or perversely satisfying as the dispatch service that this New Way Cobra Magnum garbage truck offers.
Okay, okay, so this refuse hauler isn't actually designed for this sort of thing, but it's oddly comforting to know that a sanitation truck can compact a hapless Pontiac Grand Am into oblivion. Next time, we won't feel so guilty about slipping that rusty charcoal grille onto the curb next to the cans on garbage day. Watch the carnage by scrolling below.
