You are bidding on a 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix Sport Coupe. I bought this vehicle from the original owner and performed a frame off, rotisserie restoration on it . No expense spared. The car has 58,200 original miles on it, and has been driven approximately 100 miles since restoration. It is a PHS documented 336 code 330h.p. 389 tri-power automatic. It is one of 860 (336 code) 389 tri-power cars built in 1964. The car has its original  numbers matching engine, #9770716 heads, tripower, etc... The body was taken down to bare metal and was repainted in its original color code DD Silver Mist Grey (DuPont Basecoat/ Clearcoat). The body work is laser straight. The car retains 90% of it's original black interior, only the inserts in the front buckets, the carpet, and headliner are new. It was optioned with manual brakes, power steering, dual exhaust, 3.23 posi, and 8-lug wheels. The original owner's manual with identification plates are still with the car. The original 336 code block was bored .060 over and fitted with TRW 400 forged pistons, clevite bearings, reground crank, etc... Original 716 heads were totally redone with new valve guides, seats, valves, springs, etc... Engine runs fantastic and is restored down to the original spring hose clamps, date coded spark plug wires, and original type battery. This code engine could have also been ordered in Catalina's, which is where 80-90% of them went into, due to their lighter weight. When you figure in this factor, this could be one of 50 or could be the only one ever ordered in a Grand Prix with this color/ interior combination.  Original trans was rebuilt and works great. The chrome and stainless trim were professionally redone. There are too many details to list with this car. The car has had everything rebuilt or replaced underneath, in the trunk area, everywhere.  There are none nicer. The whole car has been restored from the ground up. It is stunning. The car runs and drives flawlessly but only gets driven off and on a trailer to and from shows. This car has won numerous best of shows, and popular votes at All Pontiac shows, and has been professionally point judged, where it has won the highest award given, (Platinum), in the stock category. Bid with confidence. There are none nicer than this one. If you have any questions, call 1-319-885-6242 or 1-319-885-4372. Happy bidding. winning bidder must deposit $1000 on PayPal within 48 hrs. after auction ends. The rest of the balance is due within 7 days after auction ends. Payment can be made by cash in person, certified cashier's check, (must be verified by our bank, when check clears, the title will be provided). STUDY: Ford owns brand loyalty in 2009; Scorned Saturn, Pontiac buyers will look outside of GM

Fri, 16 Oct 2009

Ford buyers appear to love their cars more than customers of any other automotive brand, returning back to the American automaker when it comes time to purchase their next vehicle. According to a study by Experian Automotive, six of the top 10 vehicles for customer brand loyalty wear badges from the Blue Oval. That includes the Ford Fusion (62.4 percent), Ford Edge (57.9 percent), Ford Five Hundred/Taurus (56 percent), Ford Freestyle (51.9 percent), Ford Escape (49.4 percent) and the Ford Focus (47.57 percent).
Other vehicles making up the top 10 include the Toyota Prius (52 percent), Chevy Impala (51.7 percent), Toyota Camry (47.8 percent) and Toyota Corolla (47.56 percent). This brings up an interesting question: With the closing of automotive brands like Saturn and Pontiac, where are those buyers to turn for their next automotive purchase?
Apparently, not back to General Motors. According to Experian, Pontiac owners are most likely to look to the Ford lineup for their next car or truck and Saturn shoppers will switch to Toyota or Honda - not particularly surprising given that Saturn was meant to compete with import brands. Experian predicts that GM's overall market share will fall from 20 percent to about 17.5 percent, with most of the slack being picked up by Ford, Honda and Toyota.

GM knew about fatal Chevy ignition problem decade before recall

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

Well, this is not good for General Motors. Following a report last week that GM was recalling 778,000 Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 compacts over concerns that the ignition could switch out of the "run" position without warning, USA Today reports that the Detroit-based behemoth knew about the issue, which affected 2005 to 2007 Cobalts (the Cobalt shown above and in the gallery is from 2010) and 2007 Pontiac G5s, all the way back in 2004.
The information comes from a deposition in a civil lawsuit against GM, obtained by USA Today, which claims that a GM engineer experienced the issue while the then-new model was undergoing testing. The issue was "solved" when a technical service bulletin was issued in 2005, informing dealers to install a snap-on key cover on the cars of customers who complained about the issue. According to the Cobalt's program engineering manager, Gary Altman, the cover was an "improvement, it was not a fix to the issue."
The case where the depositions were made was from 2010, and involved Brooke Melton, a 29-year-old pediatric nurse in Georgia who was killed on her birthday. At the time, police claimed she was going too fast on a wet, rural road, although it later came out through the black box that her car's ignition had come out of the "run" position at least three seconds before the accident (the max amount of time a black box records before a wreck), disabling her airbags, power steering and anti-lock brakes. According to USA Today, police said Melton was "traveling too fast for the roadway conditions," although it's impossible to know if she'd have been in the wreck, which injured the occupants of another vehicle, had her 2005 Chevy not shut off. GM settled the Melton family's case, although the details remain confidential.

Airbag recall adds 85k Pontiac Vibes to tally

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

The repairs needed for the faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata continue to expand. Toyota initially announced a recall of 766,300 vehicles equipped with the bad part on June 11 as a followup to a campaign from 2013. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary evaluation into five automakers who also used the component in their models. Now, NHTSA has released the official announcement of the latest Toyota recall listing 844,277 affected cars, including the newly added 2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe.
While NHTSA's document didn't include a model-by-model breakdown, General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler estimated to Autoblog that roughly 85,000 Vibes in the US would be covered under the latest recall. Like the rest of the affected models, the airbag inflator could rupture in a crash causing the bag not to work correctly, possibly spraying metal fragments at the occupant.
Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the reason for the disparity between the earlier press release and NHTSA document was that Toyota was continuing to comb through VINs to create a list of affected vehicles. The original number was an estimate of that process at the time. Scroll down to the recall report from NHTSA.
