1979 Pontiac Trans Am Silver 10th Tenth Anniversary 403cu Auto T-tops 30k Miles on 2040-cars

Year:1979 Mileage:30500
Location:

For sale is a gorgeous 1979 10th Anniversary Trans Am with 30,000 miles. 403 cu auto. I believe I am the second or third owner of this car. I purchased it in Minnesota. I have a copy of the original sales order. I have retrieved the original build sheet which was inside the back seat. I have the original warranty info that went to the first owner who allegedly was the President of the Minnesota Trans Am club at one time.

Body & Paint - This car was professionally repainted in '03' due to a large scratch on the fender along with a new decal set. When it came back from the paint shop, it looked like it came from the factory! The paint is in excellent condition. It does have some small chips on the rear fender flare. This catches every little rock when you are driving. This car is as clean and straight as you will ever find. Absolutely no rust or bondo at all in this car. Very small scratch above the driver door handle. Doors are straight with no sag or movement.  The car was originally rustproofed at the dealer when new. A few light scratches in the T-TOPS but it's not really noticeable.

Mechanical - The Odometer says 30,500 miles. I got it in '03' it had about 23k miles. I put a new radiator on it, new rear seal and transmission pan gasket. The mechanic that worked on it said internally the engine showed little wear. The oil is always very clean and I keep it that way. I would recommend the carburetor have a rebuild on it because of it's age. I have noticed that the transmission pan gasket is leaks a few drops when it sits for a while. The front end is tight with no slop and is extremely responsive. This thing just eats up curves! I put flowmaster mufflers on it and they sound great. I did bypass the heater core because I believe it had a small leak. I don't drive it in cold weather so I have chosen to leave it that way.

The interior is in very good condition. Leather seats are all original. The back passenger seat has a small scratch. It is on the surface. see pic. A couple of small places on the hardback behind the driver seat has a little yellowing from it's age. Also, I had to make a small slice in the carpet on the driver side to clean up a spill on the floor board. It lays down real nice and you really don't know it's there. Overall, the carpet is in excellent condition. The headliner has a few areas where it has come loose. I reapplied some glue to it in some areas.

The radio works great but a couple of the LED segments are burned out. The 8 track worked last time I tried it. The AC was converted to the new Freon and also works.

The tires were new in '03' so they have about 7k miles on them. The RIMS were re-polished at a place that specialized in this.

This is a absolutely beautiful car to drive in the summer and heads turn every time I take it into town. The engine has good power for a car of this era. It's fun to drive! But now it's time for some one else to enjoy it. Please contact me for questions.

GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable

Fri, 21 Sep 2012

General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.

Hurst Edition Trans Am proves the Screaming Chicken will rise from the ashes

Wed, 31 Oct 2012

It seems the Pontiac Trans Am steadfastly refuses to die. Ever since Chevrolet was granted a retrofied Camaro to compete with the Ford Mustang, Pontiac lovers have lamented the loss of this 1970s icon. And, looking at the Hurst Edition from Trans Am Depot, shown here at the 2012 SEMA Show, may explain what all the fuss is about.
It's not going to appeal to everyone's muscle-car tastes, but there's certainly room for a brash-and-bold black-and-gold Special Edition in many a Trans Am lover's garage. After all, if you want the keys to a custom pony car, you'll certainly get noticed in this one. If this scheme isn't your bag,, you can alternatively order your Hurst Edition in white and gold or silver and black. Oh, and don't forget a color-coordinated Screaming Chicken on the hood.
No matter which way you choose to go, your inner Burt Reynolds will appreciate the Eibach suspension kit, forged wheels with Pirelli PZero tires, functional shaker hood, fender air extractors, rear spoiler and, of course, a Hurst shifter inside. The interior is emblazoned with all manner of special touches, including a Hurst dash plate and T/A stitching on the Katzkin two-tone leather seats.
