1982 Pontiac Trans am Recaro with an engine out of a 1977 Pontiac Trans am Smokey and the Bandit edition, it has xx heads. 400 turbo transmission.  New glossy black paint job with clear coat, new ground effects and all new decals completed in March 2008.  All new interior except dashboard which has a rather large crack in it, center console intact and works properly. New door hinges, door handles and locks on both sides, including ignition.  New hydraulic hood lifts and hatchback lifts.  Doors, hood and trunk shut like new.  All new weather stripping including T-Tops. New window motors, power door lock actuator motors, and buttons were replaced also.  New windshield wiper motor.  The engine has been completely rebuilt, including all new valves on the heads. New four core aluminum radiator w/dual electric fans.  400 turbo transmission has been rebuilt in October 2008, but seals leak now due to sitting in storage.  Holley carburetor, either 750 cfm or 850 cfm with edelbrock air filter. Many new parts too numerous to list.  Paint is in good shape it has a small air bubble on the hood, front ground effects there is some pealing. All new coil springs and shocks in May 2009. New air dam in August 2010 which was when the aluminum four core radiator was installed.  Some paint peeling underneath the hood due to heat from the engine.  Heater and many numerous intricate things were repaired in January 2013 including back up light and light in trunk now works.  This car has not been smoked in since I have owned it and since the interior has all been replaced.  The car does not have air conditioning in it anymore, even though it originally had it.  The car does not have cruise control even though it has it on the steering column.  Local pick up only.  I will not ship this car.  Pay pal or certified check only.  This car is located in the metro St. Louis, Missouri area.  I am not sure what happened but the VIN number on the car is absent, but I have a clear title.  The tires may need to be taken off of the rim and resealed due to sitting in storage for long periods of time.  The tires tend to leak air over time.

CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero

Fri, 26 Oct 2012

At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.

GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns

Thu, 15 May 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
