This auction if for a 1987 Trans Am GTA with 36,400 miles. The car has always been garage kept and is in exceptional condition. It has never been driven in the rain. The original window sticker and materials are included. When it was less than a year old, the original owner sent the car off to SLP where nearly $7,000 of work was done to the engine, transmission, and rear end. (We are currently trying to locate the original SLP invoice.) The SLP conversion included: special intake runners and cold air intake, heads and camshaft, Tri-Y headers, a prototype "Two-on-the-left" (TOTL) exhaust, 2500 rpm stall converter, special SLP-tuned computer chip, and Holden 3.70 gears. According to SLP, this package was good for approx. 340 horsepower, well above the 210-220 stock rating of the new-for-1987 5.7 liter V8.

Other than the SLP work, the car is completely original. It has a few minor blemishes in the original paint from being driven, and a small chip on the rear spoiler (which these cars are known for having), but it is in exceptional condition. The interior is like new. Everything on the car works as it should, although the power windows are getting a little slow. The tires were replaced less than 500 miles ago. The car has been driven on the interstate recently, and I would comfortably drive it across the country. It is tight and rattle-free. It is like going back in time and driving a new 1987 Trans Am--albeit one much faster than a stock one.

This is an extremely nice GTA, and the SLP conversion makes it extraordinarily rare. There are other low-mileage GTAs out there, but it would be hard to find one equipped like this. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own this extremely rare machine. Feel free to email any questions you have before bidding. Thanks for looking!

'67 Chevy Corvair convertible vs. '86 Pontiac Fiero in cult classic showdown

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

Every few a decades, the folks running General Motors lose their minds briefly try to market a car that public doesn't see coming and often aren't ready for. In the '60s there was the rear-engine, air-cooled Chevrolet Corvair, then the mid-engine Pontiac Fiero in the '80s and the completely bizarre Chevy SSR in the 2000s. What all of these had in common was that they bucked the trend for American models of their era, for better or worse. The latest episode of Generation Gap tasked the hosts with finding two cult classic vehicles to choose between; they came come up with two of these quirky products from The General.
On the classic side, there's a 1967 Chevy Corvair Monza convertible. Being from later in the production run, it wears slightly more aerodynamic styling than the earlier, boxier examples. Hanging out back is an air-cooled, 2.7-liter flat-six pumping out a robust 95 horsepower. In the other corner is the somewhat more modern 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE with a mid-mounted, 2.5-liter "Iron Duke" four-cylinder, an engine nearly ubiquitous in GM cars of the '80s.
Judging by when they were new, the Corvair was far more successful than the Fiero with over 1.8 million sold. Of course, Ralph Nader's book Unsafe at Any Speed kind of poisoned the well, even if the poor safety reputation wasn't entirely deserved. The Fiero on the other hand only lasted for a few model years before shuffling off, but it eventually got its own performance boost with the V6 version and rather attractive GT models. Check them both out in the video and tell us in Comments which you want in your garage.

GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable

Fri, 21 Sep 2012

General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.

GM expands ignition switch recall to over 1.3 million cars amid climbing death toll

Tue, 25 Feb 2014

588,000 Saturn Sky, Saturn Ion, Pontiac Solstice and Chevy HHR models join the 778,000 cars already being recalled.
General Motors has announced a massive expansion of a 778,000-unit recall we told you about two weeks ago, doubling not only the total number of cars affected but expanding the recall beyond Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 models previously mentioned. The recall originally centered around ignition switches that could slip out of the "run" position if jostled or if any weight was applied to the key in the cylinder.
