Two owner 1969 911S Targa in rare and desirable Tangerine

Matching numbers. Original leather 'comfort' seats. Date-matching 15 X 6" Fuchs wheels. Original Mechanical Fuel Injection in good state of tune.

This is #550 of only 614 911S Targas made in 1969. Engine number is 6391900. Owned by the current owner since 1979. This is basically one of those "no stories" cars you rarely come across. It sat, protected, for nearly 5 years before the owner realized it made more sense to sell to someone who would use and appreciate it. He had it recommissioned, with fuel purged, new batteries, fuel filter, fuel hoses, spark plugs, new engine & gearbox oil, new engine gaskets, a sending unit, fuses, bulbs, etc. The brake calipers were freed up and suspension bushing were replaced. In other words, a full reconditioning to good driving status.

If you have never driven a '69 S, you will be amazed at the lightness and agility of the car. This example is in a good state of tune: starts easily and runs strong; shifts smoothly. -- and really needs nothing to drive and enjoy.

Chassis is good, though it has lost some of its undercoating here and there. There are small spots of rust: base of Targa bar on driver's side and left door shell. The car was repainted once and could use it again.

Good gaps, as you can see in the photos. I saw no evidence of accident, although the front VIN plate is missing. Chassis stamp is in place, and history back to 1979 is solid. The car has a clean title. Records show the 46,000 miles on the odometer are likely correct, but we don't know about the car's history with its first owner 1969-79.

The dash is a Porsche factory replacement from the late '70s/early 80s. Not cracked like most. Note that the photos show a different engine grille. I am replacing the black grille with the original 3-bar grille that was on the car as delivered. Also, the car comes with one original foglight and one housing as well as the foglight that is currently on the car.

As you probably know, if you're reading this listing, the early 911s have been on something of an appreciation streak for the past 5-6 years. And the best-appreciating cars have been the high performance 911s, especially the Carrera RS. The record prices for these cars seem to be pulling up the 911S models. If it's possible to consider a car an investment, the '69S is probably among the best candidates.

And there aren't a lot of investments you can drive and enjoy like this one. I encourage you to see the car at TRE in Van Nuys. It can be seen and checked out prior to purchase. Scientific Auto in Pasadena also knows the car and did the recommissioning after its 4-year sleep.

I am listing this car on behalf of the seller. I will be happy to answer your questions or arrange access.

There are many photos of the car on Flickr:

Motor Trend hits Laguna Seca with Ferrari F12, Chevy Corvette, Porsche 911

Thu, 26 Sep 2013

According to the crew at Motor Trend, we should think of the video below "as an addendum to Best Driver's Car," a test the magazine put together that elevated the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S above all others in the category of driving joy. It seems the brand-new 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray wasn't able to take part in the magazine's official test, and neither was the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.
And so Motor Trend did the only logical thing: It procured both the 'Vette and Prancing Horse as soon as it could, and put them both on track with the Driver's Car-winning 911. Of course, these cars don't actually compete against each other - the Ferrari offers up 731 horsepower and wears an asking price of $434,144 as tested, which means you could buy four loaded Corvettes for the price of one F12, and still have money left for a garage to store them in - but that's not the point of this particular test.
The point of this test isn't to listen to the beautiful sounds coming from the Porsche's flat-six-cylinder, the Corvette's pushrod V8 or the Ferrari's luscious V12, either, but the video below is worth watching for those three reasons alone. You know what to do.

Watch 1,208 Porsche 911s collect at Silverstone for world record

Mon, 29 Jul 2013

Porsche has been spending the majority of 2013 celebrating the 50th birthday of the 911, with its latest stunt taking the German brand to the home of British motorsports, Silverstone. To celebrate, Porsche invited enthusiasts to take their personal 911s on a lap of the former airfield, and boy, did the Porschephiles show up. 1,208 911s took part in the lap around the Grand Prix circuit, making it the largest-ever gathering of the iconic, rear-engined cars.
This wasn't just a celebration of 50 years for the 911, though. Funds raised were channeled towards Hope For Tomorrow, a cancer charity that works with the United Kingdom's National Health Service in operating mobile chemothereapy units that make life just a little bit easier on cancer patients.
Take a look at the long video below, and enjoy the passing of what are likely examples of every 911 model ever built.
