1977 Porsche 911 S on 2040-cars

Year:1977 Mileage:205000
Location:

Green Mountain Falls, Colorado, United States

I am offering a 1977 Porsche 911 S with a currently non-running engine. As the second owner, I have driven this car for the last 15 years. Very recently, (May 2014), the oil pump ceased to function. As an educated guess, the oil pressure relief valve probably failed. Of course, the actual cause can only be verified by a teardown of the engine. The engine was completely rebuilt before I bought the car in April 2000.

The car itself is in excellent mechanical and physical condition. It has never been in an accident and is completely rust free – never having been out of Colorado’s very dry climate. It has been repainted ($5,000) in a Jaguar maroon red metallic color. Its appearance is flawless except for the inevitable small dings on the hood. It was always a daily driver but practically never driven in rain or snow and always garaged.

Oil changes were always performed with synthetics. The clutch assembly and the transmission (SWEPCO 201) are both in excellent shape.  This makes it possible to put the car immediately on the road with only an engine or long block swap.

Included with car:

- Original tool kit

- Full size spare tire (instead of the inflatable one)

- Several Porsche manuals (listed below)

1.    Original Porsche Owner’s Manual

2.    How to Rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 Engines ’65 – ’89 (Wayne R. Dempsey)

A few pre-race notes and a lot of photos from the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Sat, 14 Jun 2014

The 82nd running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is on.
Audi has won 12 of the last 15 events, the scion of Auto Union is trying to make it 13 this year. To do so, it will have to overcome a situation faced only three other times during its dominance of La Sarthe: underdog status. Toyota has won the first two races of the year and claimed pole for this race, the rumor being that this year it's Toyota's race to lose.
And then there's Porsche. It's been 16 years since the Stuttgart brand raced on the top rung at Le Mans, three years years since it announced its return, just a year since it acquired Mark Webber in a signing that wasn't subtle and a few months since we got eyes on the 919 Hybrid.

Former Porsche CEO Wiedeking indicted over VW takeover bid

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

Do you recall the failed efforts by Porsche to take over Volkswagen? According to a Bloomberg report, former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above) and ex-CFO Holger Haerter have finally been charged with market manipulation over the exercising of options as part of the German sportscar manufacturer's ill-fated attempt to take over the much larger VW. That failed bid eventually resulted in the reverse coming true - VW swallowing Porsche.
The charges leveled by Stuttgart prosecutors come after a three-year investigation centered around allegations that Porsche execs made a concerted effort to increase the company's share in VW to 75 percent in preparation for a hostile takeover. Porsche had previously told its investors on at least five occasions that it had no intention to buy VW.
Portions of the investigation have subsided, according to prosecutors, citing an inability to prove certain improprieties with a "necessary degree of certainty." The number of charges is down to 5 from a previous 14 counts regarding "information-based market manipulation."

Watch onboard video of the Porsche 918 Spyder's record 'Ring lap

Tue, 10 Sep 2013

"Pics or it didn't happen!" You could almost hear the Internet shouting this when news started to trickle in about a sub-seven-minute Nürburgring lap by the new Porsche 918 Spyder. Well, after an official press release, which we ran earlier today, we have your "pics." Moving pics, to be more exact. Porsche has released on-board footage of the 6:57 lap.
The video, which runs about eight-and-a-half minutes, and shows the 918 from inside the car on a flying lap of the German track. Perhaps what's remarkable is just how undramatic it all looks. Sure, there's some sawing at the wheel from test driver Marc Lieb (one of three testers, including legendary rally king Walter Röhrl), but he makes wrangling the Martini-liveried 918 look kind of easy.
Take a look down below for the full, on-board video, and then click over and read our initial write-up from earlier this morning and take a glance at the more stylized video that Porsche originally posted.
