Up for Auction is my 1980 911 SC Targa in rare Mocha Brown. This car has 72,235 miles. My father and I have owned it since 1999. He bought it for himself as a 50th birthday gift to himself and then handed it down to me as a wedding gift 4 years ago. The car is a rare color, Mocha Brown. It is a rich, dark brown, and almost looks black when the sun isn't shining on it. The paint is beautiful, there isn't a scratch or dent to be found. The car received a full exterior repaint in its original color (Mocha Brown) 4 years ago due to some small scratches and chips in the paint from road use.

The interior is a tan/cork color. The front seats were redone in high quality German vinyl about 5 years ago. The interior is very nice except for a few small cracks on the dashboard. I have the dash covered with a carpet cover that I purchased from Porsche performance products. It looks nice and cuts down on any glare. There is also a crack in the rear vinyl on the rear shelf near the rear speaker on the passenger rear (see picture). It doesn't really bother me so I let it be. There is a small brown spot on the rear seat bottom on drivers side (see picture). The steering wheel is a very nice Porsche Nardi steering wheel. The power windows works fine but the passenger side is a little slow going up.

The motor is the standard and original 3.0. It starts up and idles great. All the necessary upgrades have been done, Carrera Chain tensioners, and Pop off valve. This car also has the commonly upgraded SSI heat exchangers. The Air Conditioning doesn't work although the vehicle was equipped from the factory with A/C. Not sure if it is the compressor or something else. It has never worked and we never missed it, as we usually have the targa top off when we take it out, which is only on nice days.

The car shifts fine throughout all the gears, no grinding of any sort. We have always used high end gear oil, either Redline or Mobil 1. The suspension was upgraded a year or two after my Father purchased the car. Bilstein Greens were installed on the vehicle. It handles very nice, not too bumpy and very precise steering feel. The wheels are the original Fuchs in excellent condition. Brand new Hankook Ventus Evo tires were mounted 3 months ago, they have less than 20 miles on them .

The targa top works as it should locking in place very tight. The windshield has some small pitting in it, but no cracks or chips.

We have installed a CD player with mp3 hook up and replaced the speakers with newer better quality Alpine speakers all in the original factory speaker locations, no extra cutting of the interior, etc. It sounds very nice, although I still prefer the sound of the flat 6 engine behind me. We installed a battery shut off on the battery, as an extra precaution when the car is parked. It does however have an aftermarket alarm which works fine.

I have all of the maintenance paperwork from our ownership since 1999 and the original owners manual with the original dealer card. I do not have any service records prior to our ownership unfortunately. However we knew the person we bought it from and knew that he pampered the vehicle and was on top of all the maintenance.

This car doesn't leak any oil at all. It hasn't leaked a drop of fluid since we owned it since 1999.

There are a few small items that the could be addressed it the new owner decides to. The trip odometer doesn't work. The main odometer does work fine however. The exhaust has some surface rust on it, although it is most likely OK the way it is as there are no holes or rust through, I am just trying to be very thorough in my description. I noticed a few months ago while vacuuming the trunk area that there was some slight corrosion starting under the battery area. So I removed the battery and sanded the area then prepped it with POR 15 rust stop/ inhibitor then applied 3M undercoating to the area under the battery and also under the spare tire as a precaution. I also noticed that some of the factory undercoating was starting to peel off underneath the vehicle under the trunk pan where road debris/stones etc kick up so I also applied por 15 and 3M undercoating to that area as a precaution. The trunk carpet fits fine and does the job but there is a couple tears in it and could stand to be replaced. I mentioned before that the A/C doesn't work. All exterior lights/ fog lights/interior lights/dash lights all work as they should. The clock works fine as well. I have a soft top that attaches to the windows to keep strangers/ bird poop, etc out of the interior when the targa top is off and the car is parked. I don't have picture with the spare tire mounted in the trunk but I have it and will have it mounted back in prior to the sale along with the trunk carpet. The hood shocks that hold up the hood and the engine lid shocks that hold up the engine lid do not work. They are a cheap part on Pelicanparts.net but we never got around to it as it never really bothered us

Auto journalist ordered to pay big money for blowing up Porsche 917 engine [UPDATE]

Racecars blow engines all the time, but a Porsche 917 isn't just a run-of-the-mill racecar. British automotive writer Mark Hales reportedly borrowed a 917 from 82-year-old former Formula One racer David Piper for a magazine article, and mechanical tragedy ensued. Nobody is arguing that the engine failed after being spun to 8,200 rpm. However, Hales was warned not to exceed 7,000 rpm, says owner Piper, and the affair landed in English courts with Piper seeking £50,000 - over $79,000 US - in reimbursement funds for an engine rebuild and loss of use of the car while it was being repaired. Judge Simon Brown ruled in favor of car owner Piper, putting Hales on the hook for £110,000 ($174,000) including legal fees - a whole lot of money in any language.
Hales says the Porsche suffered a mechanical fault while lapping that allowed it to slip out of gear and over-rev. Piper wasn't convinced, and sought to have the repair paid for by the guy who broke the racer, saying "If you bend it, you mend it." It's not like Hales is a novice driver, having seat time in both professional and amateur races over 30 years, notching about 150 wins, but even the best drivers sometimes miss a shift, and that's what Piper contended happened to his car.
According to reports, Hales has had to sell most of his valuables to pay his lawyers and is now facing bankruptcy with the ruling against him. Members of the Pistonheads website are trying to coordinate a collection to help him out, as well.

NYT profiles Blue Nelson, a reclusive and interesting CA car collector

If it weren't for his Dale Earnhardt Sr. looks, Blue Nelson could be one one of those soft-spoken, nondescript guys whom you meet briefly and never learn much more about. However, as The New York Times shows in a recent profile and video, behind closed doors, Nelson keeps a fascinatingly eclectic collection of automotive oddities and vintage bicycles.
While his main career is in the movie industry, Nelson's other job is as a car hunter. He takes on clients searching for a specific model and helps them find and restore the dream vehicle that they're after. Hiring him takes some dedication, though, because Nelson doesn't advertise his services. "If people want to find me, they know how to find me," he says in the video.
Beyond being an automotive private detective, Nelson has a fantastically varied collection of vehicles of his own. He likes to have models that people don't usually see, and his garage holds a classic Chrysler New Yorker and an extremely rare Rometsch convertible. Although, the one that means the most to him is the 1962 Porsche 356 convertible that Blue came home in as a baby. Porsche 918 Spyder burns to ground in gas station conflagration

There's one fewer Porsche 918 Spyder zipping along the roads of Toronto, Canada, today. A fire at a gas station over the weekend claimed one of the hybrid supercars in a massive blaze, and a portion of the inferno was caught on video.
According to our partners to the North at Autoblog Canada, the cause of the fire hasn't been officially confirmed yet, but witnesses reportedly claimed gasoline somehow came into contact with the hot exhaust outlets that exit out of the top of the supercar's engine bay. This was just one of two 918s believed to be in the Toronto area.
Other than a possible broken heart from the owner, the fire reportedly caused no injuries, and only the Porsche and gas pump appeared to sustain serious damage. Warning, the video of the conflagration does contain some explicit language.
