1997 Porsche 911 Carrera2 Cabriolet

71k miles, 6 speed

NO RESERVE AUCTION!

Up for a no reserve auction is my 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera2 Cabriolet with 71k miles. I'll do my best to fully describe the Porsche below, so please read everything carefully before sending me questions.  Also please note that I have 100% positive feedback on EBay because I take this very seriously and I expect the same from any bidders.  Please have your finances in order BEFORE bidding on this car because this is a no reserve auction and if you bid once you could be the winner.

I am the third owner of this fine 911 which has a CarFax guaranteed clear title!  The previous owner knew the first owner (former co-workers) and so I have a good handle on this cars history (otherwise I would not have purchased it myself).

The 911 is silver with full black leather interior and offers the vastly superior manual 6 speed transmission with original limited slip differential. It simply drives amazingly, I don't know how else to put it.  The acceleration is strong, handling is balanced and predictable, and the motor sounds intoxicating. With the power top down and cruising down the road this car is a ton of fun! It looks amazing with aggressive front and rear spoilers, but at the same time it's very civilized to drive around down and not over the top. It offers the following great features: Litronic lights, limited slip differential, full leather interior with power leather seats, 18 inch Porsche Turbo twist wheels, TechArt front and back spoilers, Alpine CD system and changer, Motor Sound Package with aftermarket stainless steel performance exhaust (GHL), new Toyo Proxy tires, new Bosch battery, up to date service, and CarFax clear title guarantee!!

The overall condition of the 911 is very good to excellent.  I have owned several 911s over the years and I take the stewardship very seriously. The car was in great shape when I bought it but I have maintained it / improved it with the below service since buying it 3 years ago:

  • changed oil religiously every 3k miles using Mobil1 oil and original Porsche oil filters (yes I replaced both filters every time).
  • New Toyo Proxy tires (currently fronts = 80%, rears = 50%)
  • New Bosch battery
  • New horn bushings installed (common 993 issue)
  • New belt tension sensor
  • Multiple oil leaks fixed; this 911 leaks ZERO oil - very unusual for air-cooled 911. Motor is spotless.
  • New Bosch spark plugs (original spec.)
  • Transmission fluid changed with Mobil1 fully synthetic
  • Brake fluid flushed
  • New Porsche original alternator and A/C compressor belts
  • New distributor belt
  • New oxygen sensors
  • SpeedLine performance pedals installed

Everything on the car works as originally designed and delivered.  The clutch was replaced by the previous owner at about 40k miles (he showed me the original one before I purchased the car).  He also had the wiring harness recall work done at Porsche Nashua (NH) as well as the cabriolet top motor and transmissions all replaced under recall at the dealership.  Everything about the top works flawlessly.  This 993 does not have any SAI issues, nor does it burn excessive oil.  All OBDII functions are correct, and it has no error codes.  It drives, shifts, brakes, and handles great!  Minor, minor flaws for full disclosure: few small stone chips in hood,  chips along drivers door edge and mirror, cosmetic scratches on bottom of exhaust tips, driver door pocket sags a little, normal stuff for a car with 71k miles. It did have paintwork done at a very high quality level on right rear bumper and was barely hard enough to scratch the paint and break the tail light. I saw a picture of the original damage prior to being fixed and it really was a very minor fender bender in a parking garage in NY from the original owner.  You won't be able to see any signs of the repair - believe me I have looked very closely.  To my knowledge it has never been driven during the Winter, nor have I seen any signs on it anywhere indicating it was driven during the Winter months.

Additional info: The 911 does have the original cabriolet top that is in excellent condition.  There are zero tears and zero lose threads. The window is not cracked and it doesn't leak a drop.  The cabriolet boot cover will come with the car (excellent condition), as will the original tool kit.  I do not have the accessory air pump, but it does have the original space-saver spare tire. It has the owner's guide, and a ton of paperwork for service receipts and purchases along the way. The title is clear and free, ready to be signed over in a quick transaction.  I also have a photocopy of the title from the previous owner which shows no brands, and is great history on the car to have, and furthermore I also have the clean CarFax report from when I purchased the car.

The interior of the car is in excellent condition.  It has the full leather package (which is very unusual in a 993 cab.) which I maintain with Lexol cleaners and conditioners. There are no tears or punctures or anything like that. The carpets are all clean and in very good condition, free of any stains. There are two sets of carpets, both will be included with the car.  The interior also has TechArt carbon fiber trim pieces on the gear shift and emergency brake handle.  It looks very sharp.  I also installed RennLine performance pedals to give it an upgraded, high performance feel.

You might notice the "RS" badge on the rear deck.  The badge is a Porsche original piece that is correct for the 993 RS.  You might already know the 993 RS was never imported into the US, so I simply installed the script as a tribute to an incredible car which actually looks very similar to this Carrera2. If the winning bidder does not like the RS badge I can remove it for them without damage to the 911. Please note the rims are Porsche original, and correct wheels for this car.  They have the correct 993 part numbers on them, and are NOT the cheap aftermarket reproduction pieces you often see on other 993s. They are 18 inch, and have the correct offset so they do not require spacers. They do have wheel locks on them (Porsche original locks) and the car will come with the correct removal tool for them.

Disclaimer stuff: There is no warranty with this car. I am not a car dealer so I cannot offer any sort of warranty or guarantee.  It is being sold in as-is condition without question.  If you would like to come inspect the car personally I would be happy to show it to you with some advance notice. If the car needs to be shipped to the winning bidder I am happy to help coordinate with the shipping company, but the car will not leave my possession until all funds have cleared in my bank which can often take several business days. If you win the auction be prepared to send me $1000 deposit through PayPal within 24 hours, the remainder of the balance will need to be bank check or cashiers check. I will not accept the balance payment from PayPal because of all the nightmares I have heard about funds being recalled. I will accept a bankers check or cash, which both will need to be verified and cleared before the car leaves my possession. The buyer will pay all shipping costs (located in 02052 for cost estimates).  Please make sure you have the required funds to buy this car before bidding, as the bid is a binding agreement.

I am listing this Porsche for sale locally so I am reserving the right to end the auction early if I find a local buyer. If you are interested in the car I suggest you bid early so I know where it stands relative to local people coming to look at it.  Why am I selling my beloved 993 cab? So I can buy another Porsche, of course!

Thanks, and if you have any questions please contact me and I will reply as quickly as possible... Dan.

Porsche releases new images of LMP1 racecar

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

Porsche has released another batch of images of its LMP1 competitor preparing for its debut season in 2014. This isn't the first we've seen of the new car, as June saw four images of the new racer undergoing testing. Where those images looked merely like someone taking pics during the test, the 11 new images seen above have all the hallmarks of highly polished PR shots.
That aside, the camo-covered cars still provide another look at what the new LMP1 car will look like when it arrives next season. The taillights follow the example set by Audi, by vertically mounting ultra-thin LEDs on the tips of the rear wing, while the LED headlights sport the four-prong look that Porsche has been pushing of late. Besides those two items, its difficult to make out many details due to the amount of camo.
Porsche's LMP1 effort will be focused on the FIA World Endurance Championship, which will see the revered brand return to the top flights of the 24 Hours Of Le Mans with F1 ace Mark Webber behind the wheel. As we've mentioned before, the German brand has set up a dedicated microsite that will cover its newest racer's progress.

Porsche Supercup racer dies in crash in Australia

Tue, 15 Oct 2013

Even with great strides made towards increasing the safety of motor racing, fundamentally it's still a dangerous sport. And now it has claimed another life.
That life belonged to one Sean Edwards, an accomplished GT racing driver. Edwards was killed at Queensland Raceway in Australia, riding shotgun in a Porsche 996 GT3 while acting as instructor. The driver was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries. Sean Edwards was 26.
The son of former F1 driver Guy Edwards (whose car he drove in the filming of Rush), Sean won the European GT3 Championship in a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and drove a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 to repeat victories at the 24 Hours of Dubai as well as this year's Nürburgring 24 Hours. Edwards had been competing in the Porsche Supercup, whose standings he currently leads with just two rounds to go, and could be crowned champion posthumously.

Take a POV hot lap in the Porsche 918 Spyder

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

That title about says it all. This is a hot lap of the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX, with Porsche Works Driver Patrick Long at the wheel of a Porsche 918 Spyder. The camera is basically showing us everything that Long sees, making this not just one of the coolest 918 videos we've seen, but also one of the neatest laps of CoTA.
As Long peers through the bends, so will you. You'll see him fight the wheel, and find out just how difficult it is to hustle this hybrid hypercar around a world-class track at speed. It's pretty darn entertaining. There are also a few scattered shots of the 918's exterior just to break up the interior awesomeness, although we aren't exactly complaining about those. Take a look below for the short video from Porsche.
