Up for bid is my 1974 Porsche 914. This car is a very special car and is one of the coolest I have seen, not to mention the most fun. The car is an absolute blast on the track or on sunday afternoon drives. My father took the car to a track day last season and I havent had enough time to enjoy it... so it must go. I also recently acquired my fathers old SCCA race car. All this being said, I have thoroughly enjoyed this car and wish I had the money and space to keep it. I have put less than 500 miles on the engine after the overhaul and tune.

I bought the car probably close to five years ago and initially got the top end overhauled by a reputable 914 mechanic in my area who tuned it and got it back to perfect mechanical condition. We estimate with all the modifications the car is putting down a little over 200hp and is very quick! I had an original 914 that was stock when I first bought this car and it was fun to get in this one after driving the stock one.

The modifications to the car are what make it special. It has over $22,000 in modifications (almost 20 years ago), which probably would cost over $40,000 nowadays. I have been told the car is worth over $20,000 by the original owner in a good economy. But at the moment, the market for these cars is weak and I simply need the money for college and to get into SCCA racing. My loss is your gain.

Here is a list of majority of the upgrades and modifications:
944 turbo custom front bumper
oil cooler front bumper w/ thermostat

subtotal: $22,389.14 (just in mods)

The car also comes with a spare set of wheels for the track (cookie cutters), but the track slicks are shot.

Bad: The car has some small rust bubbles that are showing, but they are easily fixed and not very noticeable. The paint on some of the wheels is also flaking off though there is absolutely no corrosion. These two issues are not very major but I believe in being completely open. If you have any questions about these two problems or would like pictures please shoot me an email.

Overall, this car is an amazing car. I have enjoyed it and have contemplated keeping it, but it is time for it to go. I was reading a guide to getting into racing. The first step in the book was, "sell the Porsche." So after selling my original 914, my '87 944 turbo and my '77 911 it is time for this one to go too.

Let me know if you have any questions or want more pictures. dawendy01@gmail.com or (540)728-0203

I accept cashiers checks, wire transfers, cash in person or paypal. $1000 deposite within 48 hours and I can help arrange shipping nationally or internationally.

Enjoy the bidding and I hope the next owner enjoys the car as much as I have.

Dan

Mark Webber gets early clearance for Porsche departure

Thu, 28 Nov 2013

If there's no rest for the wicked, there's surely even less rest for the wickedly fast. And make no mistake about it, Mark Webber is wickedly fast. He may not have proven able (or given the opportunity, depending on who you ask) to emerge from Sebastian Vettel's shadow after six seasons partnered with the multiple world champion at Red Bull Racing, but he's still won nine Formula One grands prix, to say nothing of the sports car races he won with Mercedes in the late 90s. But now he's leaving F1 to anchor Porsche's new LMP1 program, and according to the latest reports, he's departing Red Bull for Porsche sooner than expected.
Typically an F1 driver is obliged to stay with his team until the end of the calendar year - not just the end of the racing season - helping out with things like promotional events and fine-tuning next year's car. But news.com.au reports that Red Bull has given him early leave, so once the racing action in Brazil is done on Sunday, he's departing straight for Porsche's racing headquarters in Wiessach, Germany.
It won't be Webber's first visit to the facility, having already swung by to have his new seat fitted. But his early arrival will undoubtedly help him and Porsche get up and running ahead of schedule. The move may have been facilitated by a new sponsorship deal that could see Webber carry Red Bull with him to Le Mans, so don't be too surprised to see the energy drink company's logo on the side of the new Porsche once the new racing season gets under way next year, whether in concert with or instead of the anticipated revival of the Martini Racing livery.

Watch this Koenigsegg CCX hit 211 mph on a runway, outpacing McLaren's P1

Tue, 03 Jun 2014

Vmax200 in in England organizes events where those who care to show up with a supercar can run them down the two-mile runway at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground. Evo attended the latest event, bringing an impressively green Lamborghini Aventador to test its girth and gaping vents against other precious metals like the McLaren P1 and F1, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and Enzo, a Porsche Carrera GT and enough 911 Turbos to start a dealership. Speaking of those Porsches, nine of the top ten slots in the top speed competition are claimed by modified 911 Turbos.
A monochrome Swede ruled them all, though, a black-and-white Koenigsegg CCX setting fire to the speed trap run after run, hitting 211 miles per hour at its quickest. It was followed by, surprise, a 911 GT2 modified by 9E that did 210 mph. You can watch the EVO video below, GT Spirit has a bigger breakdown of the day, and we've included another vid showing the tandem launch of the CCX and McLaren F1.

China bans military license plates on luxury autos

Wed, 01 May 2013

Driving a vehicle with a military license plate in China provides many privileges. Legally reserved for official vehicles only, the designation apparently allows drivers to enjoy special liberties on the roads, including breaking traffic laws, filling up with free fuel and receiving light-and-siren escorts through congested cities. So attractive are the benefits that there is a secondary market for used legal and counterfeit plates - especially among those wealthy enough to afford luxury cars. But all of that is reportedly coming to an end, as President Xi Jinping, chairman of the Central Military Commission, is on a mission to fight corruption in his country.
A new license plate system goes into effect today, and it is designed to "maintain social harmony, stability and the reputation of the military," says the PLA Daily, the armed forces' official newspaper. While the abuse has been going on for many years, the internet has put the spotlight on the bad behavior, and the negative press does not represent the morals and true colors of the armed forces, say officials.
While military-plated Porsche drivers have been singled out as offenders, Bloomberg notes that all vehicles with engine displacements above 3.0 liters and with a sticker price in excess of about $73,000, will be banned from receiving military plates. This includes vehicles from Audi, Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln and the Volkswagen Phaeton. Even if drivers are savvy enough to circumvent the new issuing system, the military has put technology at toll gates to catch users of counterfeit plates. There has been no word on the punishment if caught.
