Up for auction is a 1970 914 - This Classic starter Porsche begs to be driven. A pair of Weber carburetors top a 1.7 liter 4 cylinder backed by a standard 5-speed. The only bit of rust
is in the trunk, where the battery now resides. This 914 was originally painted blue, but was repainted black by a previous owner. The condition of the body is good and I think the pictures prove it. The bumpers, top and interior are in good shape.
The carpet, seats and dash are good. The
original 914 steering wheel has been replaced by a classic Nardi wood wheel. The gauges are good. The odometer works, but that actual miles are unknown as I am sure the odometer has rolled over. The previous owner had no written service records to pass along. Lights function as they should and the glass is in good condition. This car has been lowered for better cornering and has original Pedrini (Italy) wheels with good tires. A recent tune up and valve adjustment means this car can be driven anywhere at anytime. Robb Report chooses Porsche 911 as its Car of the Year
Thu, 21 Feb 2013Robb Report has picked the seventh-generation Porsche 911 Carrera S as its 2013 Car of the Year, saying the two-door captivated its judges with "agility, driving dynamics and balance." The German coupe bested 12 others who were also in the running - the impressive list of nominees included the BMW M5, Audi S8, Ferrari FF, Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG and the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse.
Judging involved more than just throwing darts at pictures on the wall, as the publication enlisted a panel of automotive experts to test drive each vehicle for close evaluation. The panelists included 100 members of the Robb Report Club (comprised of top corporate executives and influential readers), Editor-in-Chief Brett Anderson and automotive consultant Robert Ross. Porsche has doubled US sales to women [w/videos]
Wed, 21 Aug 2013Porsche is having a good sales year in the US, with 25,129 vehicles delivered year-to-date coming off the automaker's best July sales ever. That's a 31-percent increase over the same period last year (19,253 deliveries). With year-to-date Panamera sales a surprising 36 percent lower than last year, what possibly could be driving Porsche's sales surge? If you answered Cayman and Boxster sales, you're right. But dealerships are noticing another factor: more women are coming in to buy Porsches, CNBC reports, the bulk of whom picked up new Cayenne SUVs. The German automaker's sales to women in the US have more than doubled in the past two years, increasing from 7 percent to 15 percent. This has helped year-to-date Cayenne sales reach 11,082 - 31 percent higher than the same time last year.
Porsche executives have been trying to tap into the women's market, as evidenced in part by the company's move to pick professional tennis player Maria Sharapova as a brand ambassador. Porsche maintains it has not moved to dramatically change its brand image, but it has shown a number of ads in recent years that uncharacteristically emphasize its vehicles' practicality under the "Engineered for Magic. Everyday" banner - some featuring female drivers.

Porsche Macan Turbo vs Cayman GTS in track battle
Fri, 19 Sep 2014"Well this is stupid." On the surface, that was our reaction to this video, as well. Why would you compare the hottest Porsche Cayman with a crossover of any kind, even if it is the 400-horsepower Macan Turbo?
We're guessing because it'd be bloody good fun, as evidenced Auto Express's latest track battle. To be fair, there is some interesting stuff here. The two do have a similar starting price, separated by less than $3,000 here in the US market. And, factoring in the Macan's hefty horsepower and torque advantages - 60 horsepower and 126 pound-feet - does make for a slightly interesting comparison.
