Pristine!.. Air cooled Porsche's from the 70's are hot and appreciating rapidly, especially the '76-'79 purist years.  When it comes to first generation 930's the 1979 model is widely considered to be a choice year among Porsche afficionado with the chassis improvements of the 1978 911SC and an intercooled 3.3 liter turbocharged motor. This particular car is amazing. It was purchased to be a collector 930 from the beginning. It has been a 'friends and family' car. I have the orginal window sticker, EVERY service record since new, with TRUE mileage documented. It was ordered with limited slip differential, heated right outside mirror, sport seats, black headliner, and electric sunroof. This car has been driven an average of just under 2,000 miles per year for it's entire existence. Many 930's were driven right into the ground - not healthy; or stored for too long without driving - also not healthy. This car is 'exercised' correctly, and the result is a super tight ORIGINAL pampered car that only sees fair weather. Present mileage...59,800. All service has been performed as scheduled, and the motor has never been out. Bone dry, no leaks.  It drives like a perfect just broken in 930. Never raced or tracked or abused, NEVER been in an accident, never dinged or dented, NEVER EVEN BEEN DIRTY!! Body panels are glass straight and the paint is 95% original. (Side sills (rough factory finish area) were resprayed for concours show level).  See photos 9&10 of the 'before' on the lower side sills, these were resprayed to a concours level, to rid paint road rash.  The stereo was swapped with a Blaupunkt cd player, but the original is saved and included. The interior is like brand new. The dealer installed factory mats were strapped in on delivery day and NEVER removed. The carpets are in BRAND NEW condition. The only mechanical 'change' is the addition of chain tensioners on 9/02/99 @41K miles (a no brainer really). I have also replaced the engine buffer (insulated pad) that just get tattered and crumble away over time with a NOS piece since this engine compartment photo was taken...again, a no brainer.  This car is a 'sleeper', it has never been shown or documented with any websites or registry's anywhere. 5 years ago, it was recognized as a serious collectible candidate and has been concours prepared ever since.  If you are a serious collector, you need to check it out. This spring/summer you could be collecting councour's trophies with zero effort.  Come on out to beautiful Lake Tahoe, enjoy a ski holiday, you will no doubt LOVE this car and a drive to the lake is a must if weather permits. The car safely resides in my home's clean garage. Remember this is a 34 year old car, prepare to be BLOWN AWAY!  There can't be but one or two original paint black 930's anywhere in the world this clean, if at all.  Included are uber rare spare wiper arms/blades, touch up paint, other misc. parts from 1979, in original packaging and untouched.  See photos.  I have this car advertised...well, everywhere, lol. so don't be surprised to see it unavailable as I am receiving offers.  Reminder, original paint....free from dings, dents, scratches, chips, flaws of any kind...the new top tier collectible - unrestored perfection.

Porsche testing four-cylinder Boxster at the N?rburgring

Fri, 09 May 2014

Porsche recently introduced a four-cylinder version of the new Macan for markets outside of North America, carrying Zuffenhausen's first four-pot since the 968 ended its production run the better part of two decades ago. But you can bet the compact crossover won't be the only Porsche to get the four banger before all's said and done. These spy shots, we're told, are evidence of just that.
Spotted undergoing testing at the Nürburgring (where else), this modified Boxster, our spy photographers tell us, sounds more like a four-cylinder engine than the flat six that's powered (in displacements ranging from 2.5 liters to 3.4) every version of the little roadster since its introduction in 1996, the year after the last four-cylinder Porsche ended production.
The test mule is also wearing modified wheel arches and aerodynamic aids under the bumpers, front and rear. Just what they're doing there we're not sure, but we'll probably find out sooner or later.

Chris Harris condemns demonization of Porsche Carrera GT in wake of Walker death

Fri, 06 Dec 2013

When something bad happens, it's easy to resort to scapegoating. At least for some of us, that seems to be exactly what has happened following the tragic death of actor Paul Walker and racer Roger Rodas, who were killed on November 30 in a Porsche Carrera GT. Even though officials have not yet determined the cause of the crash, that isn't stopping many theories from being put for - theories that include blaming the Porsche supercar. Rather predictably, not only is the CGT's difficult nature getting examined, but indeed, the nature of all high-performance cars is being put under the public's microscope, with some wondering what the need for all the power is.
A Google search of "Porsche Carrera GT" will find no shortage of articles about the razor-sharp handling and outright speed of the CGT. Pistonheads' Chris Harris has a different, insightful take on both the Carrera GT and the nature of all fast cars. He reflects on the matter, ironically, en route to drive the successor to the car that killed Walker and Rodas, the 900-horsepower 918 Spyder hybrid supercar.
We think it's well worth a read, as it makes a number of good points about modern high-performance automobiles and the way they're used. Click over and take a look.

NYT profiles Blue Nelson, a reclusive and interesting CA car collector

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

If it weren't for his Dale Earnhardt Sr. looks, Blue Nelson could be one one of those soft-spoken, nondescript guys whom you meet briefly and never learn much more about. However, as The New York Times shows in a recent profile and video, behind closed doors, Nelson keeps a fascinatingly eclectic collection of automotive oddities and vintage bicycles.
While his main career is in the movie industry, Nelson's other job is as a car hunter. He takes on clients searching for a specific model and helps them find and restore the dream vehicle that they're after. Hiring him takes some dedication, though, because Nelson doesn't advertise his services. "If people want to find me, they know how to find me," he says in the video.
Beyond being an automotive private detective, Nelson has a fantastically varied collection of vehicles of his own. He likes to have models that people don't usually see, and his garage holds a classic Chrysler New Yorker and an extremely rare Rometsch convertible. Although, the one that means the most to him is the 1962 Porsche 356 convertible that Blue came home in as a baby. Check out the video to learn more about Nelson and his philosophy about forming a bond with a car.
