European "special Wishes" Program 930s Imported To Us And Carb Qualified For Ca on 2040-cars

Year:1983 Mileage:37266 Color: is very good but the paint is thin in spots from all the polishing the car has received
Location:

San Diego, California, United States

You are bidding on a unique factory slope nose 930 made in 1983. The car is a European 930S - this car has never been available for sale new in the US. A US market version of this car first shipped to the U.S. in 1986.

This car was legally imported to the U.S. - it is not a grey market car. When I moved the car to California, it was qualified and certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for registration in California where it has been registered since 2000. Those who have dealt with CARB know it is a challenge to get them to certify a not-made-for-California car.

The first thing you notice is the car's steel front fenders do not have the US production break vents on the top of the fenders. The car's nose came from the factory smooth like a Ferrari. The car is original and was produced on the Special Wishes production line in Germany and has many factory made custom "add ons" such as burl wood interior door pulls with inlaid Porsche crests, unique center console, etc. The car has 37,266 original miles and runs great. I have owned the car since 2000 and driven it about 4000 miles total. It spends most its time parked in a secured and temp controlled garage. After I purchased the car in 2000 at about 30,000 miles, I had Powerhaus Porsche in Phoenix go through the engine/transaxle and replace anything on the motor that was looking aged or tired. It was kept stock with the exception of factory design updates such as the timing chain tensioner system, etc. I have all receipts from the work totaling over $15,000. Powerhaus also installed a custom build oversized intercooler.

The car has been maintained by BlackForest Porsche in San Diego for the last 14 years. They have preemptively replaced various ignition parts, fuel filters, injectors, etc, that were aging out. I have receipts and work orders for all. Mechanically the car is excellent. The interior of the car is beautiful and shows no wear. The exterior is very good but the paint is thin in spots from all the polishing the car has received. You probably cannot see any light spots in the pictures, but you can in bright direct sunlight.

The car is sold as is. It is so unique and fun to drive I hesitate to sell it. The turbo makes this car a fun drive and it turns a lot of heads. It was on the cover of the SD Region Porsche Club magazine Windblown Witness in 2006. The correct VIN is WP0ZZZ93ZDS000695. EBay would not accept the VIN because it is a European manufactured car not originally destined for the U.S.

Shipping is the buyers responsibility. I will assist in loading the car after payment has cleared. It comes with a few extra Porsche parts (including the original 930S three spoke steering wheel in perfect condition) I have acquired over the years, plus four 17" C-2 chrome rims with tires and spacers to fit the 930.

Modded budget Mazda Miata takes on new Porsche Boxster in more challenges

Tue, 23 Sep 2014

Earlier this month, our friends across the pond at Auto Express released the first in a two-video series that would see them try and build up a second-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata that could best a standard Porsche Boxster around the track. While that first video detailed the mods to the MX-5 - a supercharger, some suspension upgrades and a new set of super-sticky rubber being chief among them - and set baseline lap times for the stock car, today, we have the results of the 5,000-pound ($8,200) upgrade job.
Of course, we aren't going to spoil those for you. You'll need to watch the full video, which recaps the upgrades before digging into a comparison of both straight-line-speed differences between the 2.7-liter Porsche Boxster and blown Miata, as well as their behavior and lap times on the track.
Take a look and let us know what you think in Comments.

Volkswagen Group previews its wares on eve of Geneva show

Mon, 05 Mar 2012

The Volkswagen Group is comprised of 11 brands producing 240 vehicles across 49 factories throughout the world. So the best way to show off the range of the VW family is to cram a few thousand journalists and VIPs into a massive makeshift stand to outline the Group's goals, what's in the pipeline and what you'll be able to buy later this year.
To that end, VW pulled out all the stops on the eve of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, bringing along 10 vehicles from across the range. We'll be delving into the details of each over the next two days of show coverage, but before that happens, you can read all about what we saw tonight from the cheap seats after the break.

Porsche 911 with VW turbodiesel prepares for LeMons assault

Fri, 21 Mar 2014

LeMons racing is a wonderful example that setting limits can actually breed creativity. The series mandates that all entries must cost $500, not counting safety equipment, and that cap forces teams to be ingenious in how they build a racecar. Take for example this diesel-powered Porsche 911, which its creators have dubbed Ferkel the Nein-11, that will be racing in the Sears Pointless race this weekend in Sonoma, California.
This Frankenstein combines a 911 chassis that was originally bought just for its European powertrain and a Volkswagen TDI diesel engine mounted in the rear. After deciding the shell could still be of some use, the team decided to go racing. "We began brainstorming what replacement drivetrain to use for maximum offense and there was really only one answer: a diesel," said Philipp von Weitershausen, one of the team captains, to Jalopnik. They bought a 1998 Jetta TDI on the cheap and started figuring out a way to hack the engine into the bay. To pay respect to the donor, the VW's trunk was highly modified (and drilled) and grafted onto the back of Ferkel.
This team isn't a newcomer to LeMons. Its last car was a classic VW Beetle with a Subaru engine and dual controls, named Ferdinand the Bug, which could be driven from the left or right side. It's quite a sight.
