Here you have a 1987 944S with all the Porsche luxuries that was bought by a perfectionist.  Like most purchases it looked ok, but after purchase came the surprises.  My friend is a novice to the Porsche crowd and this was his first one.  He bought it , it seemed OK but then little things were wrong, so he set out to make it mechanically perfect.  At 79600 miles put in new gas struts, new turn signal switch other misc.  Bill came to $2,023.53.  Next a little more driving , then more stuff not quite perfect so needed to be fixed.  New AC compressor, new AC expansion valve, new windshield reservoir and pump and new Dynomax VT muffler, total $1,886.96.  Few more miles then New drive belts, Timing belt, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor , valve cover gasket balance shaft seal and clutch to the tune of $3,777.44.  Mechanically it needs nothing.  I am including the number for Mitch at the repair shop a 944 expert and he can tell you they went through the car top to bottom, NO mechanical issues that they have not already been repaired.  The paint is good, normal use, stone chips, the leather on both seats are cracked, BUT NO ISSUES WITH THE RUNNING OF THE CAR.  Don't be fooled by other inexpensive 944 that look OK, THE BILLS ADD UP FAST.  To give you an idea when he bought the car , sounded and ran ok , but in less than a year put $7687.93 plus the cost of a new set of tires.  Many say their car needs nothing, BUT look at the bills this car is mechanically sound.  Questions call Mitch at Hi Line auto he can answer any questions or set up a test drive.  (630) 663-0044. My friend has now become a Porsche freak and after getting this car mechanically just right is now moving on and bought an even faster Porsche... so the cycle begins again.  please email with any questions or if you would like additional pictures. I have the car for sale locally so have the right to end the auction at any time.  Come out schedule a test drive see for yourself this is a tight Porsche!

Porsche 911 already testing next refresh

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

The latest Porsche 911 may still be a newer car, but that hasn't stopped the German company from starting development of a facelifted version of the rear-engined sports car, testing in what looks like southern Europe.
Due to hit the market in 2015, our spies think what we're seeing here is the new GTS variant, which, following the evolution of the last-generation 911, will make its debut on the facelifted car. Featuring the wider rear haunches of the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4, the GTS should enjoy a slight power boost, to 408 ponies.
Aesthetically, there are some additional vents in the rear bodywork, along with a revised front bumper and tweaked day-time running lights. The taillights get some attention as well, and will likely grow over the current car's skinny rear lamps.

Porsche close to fix for 911 GT3 engine fires

Sun, 16 Mar 2014

It looks like 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 drivers might actually get to drive their cars again soon. Reports of fires affecting the track-ready Germans first began about a month ago. Then, a few days later, the automaker confirmed two of the five alleged blazes and said owners shouldn't drive their cars until further notice. Porsche then went so far as to offer to pick up the GT3s and transport them to the nearest dealer until the problem was identified and a fix was found. Finally, there appears to be a repair.
"We know the reason and the problem-solving measures. We're testing them," said Porsche CEO Matthias Müller to Bloomberg. The technical fix will be released to owners shortly.
The recall affects all 785 GT3s that have been sold so far, but there have been no reported injuries caused by the fires. When it first announced the safety campaign, Porsche said: "Internal studies to determine the cause of the engine damage have not been completed yet."

China bans military license plates on luxury autos

Wed, 01 May 2013

Driving a vehicle with a military license plate in China provides many privileges. Legally reserved for official vehicles only, the designation apparently allows drivers to enjoy special liberties on the roads, including breaking traffic laws, filling up with free fuel and receiving light-and-siren escorts through congested cities. So attractive are the benefits that there is a secondary market for used legal and counterfeit plates - especially among those wealthy enough to afford luxury cars. But all of that is reportedly coming to an end, as President Xi Jinping, chairman of the Central Military Commission, is on a mission to fight corruption in his country.
A new license plate system goes into effect today, and it is designed to "maintain social harmony, stability and the reputation of the military," says the PLA Daily, the armed forces' official newspaper. While the abuse has been going on for many years, the internet has put the spotlight on the bad behavior, and the negative press does not represent the morals and true colors of the armed forces, say officials.
While military-plated Porsche drivers have been singled out as offenders, Bloomberg notes that all vehicles with engine displacements above 3.0 liters and with a sticker price in excess of about $73,000, will be banned from receiving military plates. This includes vehicles from Audi, Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln and the Volkswagen Phaeton. Even if drivers are savvy enough to circumvent the new issuing system, the military has put technology at toll gates to catch users of counterfeit plates. There has been no word on the punishment if caught.
