1999 Porsche Boxster 5spd
Blue with gray interior

Details:

I bought this car then end up buying a 911 right afterwards and decided to keep the 911.  Car appears to be very well taken care of and is very clean with NO rust or corrosion.  Runs and drives nicely.  Shift smoothly through all the gears with NO grinding.  Clutch feels strong.  Does not smoke or leak.  Convertible top is in great shape and appears nearly new.  The back plastic window is very clear with no cracking or signs of age.  The top goes up and down smoothly and the windows work nicely.  The body is very straight with NO major damage.   There is no significant chipping or cracking in the paint and the only damage I can really find is one dime sized chip on the front bumper and another similar sized chip on the rear bumper.  The interior is in equally good shape.  The leather is clean with no rips or tears.  There is a very small amount of wear on the drivers bolster, but much less than you would expect for its age and miles.  All the power options seem to work fine.  The a/c blows cold.  There is also a $600 Kenwood touchscreen DVD player that folds out of the dash.  Tires are Pirelli P-zero tires that have about 50% tread left.  The rims are clean with minimal curb rash.  The alignment is spot on and I would feel comfortable taking the car on a long road trip.

History:

I purchased the car in California and the car still has the California Salvage title from Liberty Mutual.  From what I can tell the car looks like they hit a curb putting a small (8 inch dent) into the bottom of the front trunk pan.  In the front of the car where the spare tire is stored, the bottom of the trunk is very low to the ground and that is where the dent was.  I stood on the dent and it popped right out.  This damage did not affect the alignment (I did not have the car aligned and the alignment is still spot on) or any other part of the car.  The damage cannot be seen unless you are under the car and does not affect the functionality or usability of the car in any way.  The accident also seemed to set off the airbag light, so the airbag light is on.  I do not have the tools to pull the codes, so I do not know why it is on, but non of the airbags deployed  and the seatbelts still function.  My guess is that is the real reason the car was totaled was because the insurance company figured on needing to replace all the airbags due to the light being on.  This car can be driven as it is with absolutely no work whatsoever needing to be done.

Flaws:

Aside from the salvage title there are a couple of small flaws with the car.  Like every other Boxster in existence the center console door is broken.  The drivers door panel storage bin lid is also broken.  The driver's a/c vent has a couple broken fins.  There is a small 1 inch X 2 inch piece of trim at the front of the tonneau cover on the driver's side that is missing.  The keyless entry remote does not work (most likely just needs to be reset).  The convertible top warning light is on even when the top is secured (faulty sensor that is pretty common on these cars).  Finally the airbag light is on most likely due to the accident.

Terms:

Buyer is responsible for getting the car to their location.  I will help where I can.  I need a $500 deposit via Paypal within 48 hours of the close of the auction with the remainder due in one week via cash or cashiers check. Car is sold as is where is.

Mark Webber gets early clearance for Porsche departure

Thu, 28 Nov 2013

If there's no rest for the wicked, there's surely even less rest for the wickedly fast. And make no mistake about it, Mark Webber is wickedly fast. He may not have proven able (or given the opportunity, depending on who you ask) to emerge from Sebastian Vettel's shadow after six seasons partnered with the multiple world champion at Red Bull Racing, but he's still won nine Formula One grands prix, to say nothing of the sports car races he won with Mercedes in the late 90s. But now he's leaving F1 to anchor Porsche's new LMP1 program, and according to the latest reports, he's departing Red Bull for Porsche sooner than expected.
Typically an F1 driver is obliged to stay with his team until the end of the calendar year - not just the end of the racing season - helping out with things like promotional events and fine-tuning next year's car. But news.com.au reports that Red Bull has given him early leave, so once the racing action in Brazil is done on Sunday, he's departing straight for Porsche's racing headquarters in Wiessach, Germany.
It won't be Webber's first visit to the facility, having already swung by to have his new seat fitted. But his early arrival will undoubtedly help him and Porsche get up and running ahead of schedule. The move may have been facilitated by a new sponsorship deal that could see Webber carry Red Bull with him to Le Mans, so don't be too surprised to see the energy drink company's logo on the side of the new Porsche once the new racing season gets under way next year, whether in concert with or instead of the anticipated revival of the Martini Racing livery.

Another cool projection vid, this time with a Porsche 911

Fri, 28 Dec 2012

Porsche has become the latest automaker to take advantage of clever projection technology. The automaker worked up a quick presentation for the 2013 911 Carrera 4S to show off a bit of "motionless driving." The display tracks the sports car from production to back-road caning and city-center cruising, displaying a variety of exterior color choices and wheel options without resorting to a two-dimensional video.
This isn't the first time we've seen an automaker use its new product as a projection screen. Subaru, Hyundai, Lamborghini and others have all done the same, and the trick never fails to be visually interesting.
As you may recall, we got to play with the 2013 911 Carrera 4S back in November and found the machine to be a better daily driver than its rear-wheel drive counterpart. You can check out the projection video below.

Porsche exec confirms Macan Diesel for US

Wed, 15 Oct 2014

The idea of a diesel-powered Porsche is the sort of thing that sounds really, really weird... until you actually drive it. The result of sticking glow plugs under the hood of Stuttgart's finest, though, is a vehicle that's nearly as entertaining as a gas-powered model but with much more torque and better fuel economy. Considering that, we think it's absolutely splendid news that following previous reports, Porsche has now confirmed a diesel-powered Macan for the US market.
"We are now busy with the development and the engineering," Andre Oosthuizen, Porsche's North American marketing VP, told Automotive News. "I can confirm that V6 diesel offering with about 245 horsepower."
Yep, that's the same 3.0-liter V6 found, most notably, in the CUV's Audi Q5 platform-mate as well as a plethora of other Volkswagen Group vehicles, both in the US and abroad. Stuttgart already offers the 3.0-liter oil-burner in the Euro-spec crossover, where it churns out 258 hp and 427 pound-feet of torque.
