1999 Saab 9-5 Wagon, near perfect body with just a very few small scuffs and tiny rock chips, no dings, dents or paint flaws, see pics. Black leather interior in great shape, heated front and rear seats with power controls and 3-way memory settings; small cracks and a single hole in front of drivers seat and cracked leather on center console, otherwise in perfect condition. 2.3L turbo engine with 4 speed automatic transmission is super reliable, has never let us down, powerful and economical. Stock Garrett turbo upgraded with brand new Mitsubishi GT unit from Saab 9-5 250 HP Aero model, nice increase in highway passing power and economy over stock - regularly returns 28+ MPG at 75+ hwy speeds, capable of over 32 MPG at steady 65 MPH. All engine and transmission mounts were replaced as a maintenance item less than 1000 miles ago, greatly smoothing out vibration at idle most 9-5s are known for. No leaks or drips. Silicone intercooler hoses and vacuum lines installed with new turbo. Mobil One synthetic oil and fluids throughout.

Rear seat is a 60/40 split and folds to form a long load floor - lots of room back there for camping, groceries or whatever you might need to carry. Continental Extreme DWS (Dry, Wet, Snow) all-weather Ultra-high-performance (UHP) 16" radial tires on stock Saab rims, no curb rash or oxidation. Brakes, suspension, steering all tight and work as they should. Both Sport and Winter shift modes work well. SID rebuilt a few years back, no missing pixels and all functions work. Radio & CD player sound good, has stock subwoofer built into cargo area and you can crank it! Cold AC and working heat front and rear. Cruise control, tilt wheel, front, rear and headlight wipers with new blades. Sunroof works perfectly in both modes and seals well, no water or air leaks. All glass and mirrors intact, headlights and other lenses are bright and shiny with no oxidation, power mirrors occasionally intermittent and fog light cover on one side is cracked. Has been a California/Arizona vehicle for many years so there is absolutely NO rust anywhere, body and chassis are solid and clean as can be. There is a trailer hitch and 4-pin wiring harness from a previous owner but we've never used it.

Couple of small items for complete disclosure - 1: SID will occasionally display false errors such as front or rear light failure
and check coolant level when there are no faults. As these go away with the push of a button never gave it much thought after confirming time and time again that there are no actual problems. 2: AC is cold (44 degrees) but left side driver's dash vent blows warm air only - a known Saab issue involving the driver side flapper door motor. All other vents work fine and the faulty vent can be completely shut off so again this does not present a problem in use. 3: Cruise control will always set fine the first time you use it but sometimes will not reset after hitting the brakes - sometimes this resolves itself right away, sometimes it takes a few miles but always eventually starts working again. At this time, these are the only issues I am aware of.

This is a fine example of a clean, well maintained Saab 9-5 turbo wagon which needs nothing to enjoy driving day in and day out. This has been our long-distance travel wagon and has been smooth, comfortable and reliable on any number of 1000+ mile trips - we are only selling as we needed a manual shift wagon to flat-tow behind our motorhome, so it's been replaced by a Passat turbo wagon, which is almost, but not quite, as nice to drive as the Saab! We'll miss it!

NO Reserve! Saab is sold as-is, where-is with no warranty expressed or implied. Buyer responsible for all shipping and/or travel costs, seller will cooperate with all reasonable arrangements for shipping or pickup in person. We welcome and encourage inspections during the auction period, located in Ash Fork AZ, 50 miles from Flagstaff or Prescott. Fly in to Flagstaff, Prescott, Phoenix or Las Vegas airports and drive home. Clear AZ title, no issues. Check our 100% feedback, we strive to always show items in their true condition. Thanks much for looking and have a great time bidding!

Saab owners NEVS denied creditor protection by Swedish court

Thu, 28 Aug 2014

The story of Saab is practically a Greek tragedy at this point. The quirky Swedish automaker that was once known as a pioneer of affordable turbocharging has been followed by years of news that just seemed to keep getting worse. At this point, maybe the brand name should be allowed to fade away into the ether and be remembered for the good times that it gave us.
Saab's latest predicament is that its parent National Electric Vehicle Sweden (or NEVS) has been denied protection from its creditors by the Swedish courts. According to Reuters, the judges called the business' financing plan "vague and completely undocumented." A company spokesperson told Reuters that it plans to appeal.
Seemingly in reaction to the court's decision, NEVS posted a press release on its website announcing that the company had applied "for a reorganization to create more time for the ongoing negotiations." The automaker continues to claim that it's negotiating with two global automakers to sell a portion of the company, possibly Mahindra, but the process is taking longer than it originally predicted. It seems a distinct possibility that this reorganization attempt is simply a way to buy extra time.

National Electric Vehicle stops Saab 9-3 production amidst financing woes

Tue, 20 May 2014

It seems that quirky, Swedish automaker Saab might be on life support yet again. Its owner, National Electric Vehicle Sweden, has announced that it's reducing its workforce and temporarily halting production of the 9-3 due to financial problems. NEVS was only building six cars a day, anyway.
The company put out a press release admitting its economic woes, but it still appeared hopeful. NEVS claims it's developing "a new platform on the Phoenix architecture," and it has a frame agreement with an international automotive OEM. It didn't give any specific details about either one of these assertions though. According to The Wall Street Journal, NEVS needs the partnership to lower development costs in order to stay afloat. Saab spokesperson Mikael Ostlund told Autoblog in an email that the stop in production of the 9-3 in Trollhättan would last four weeks.
NEVS says it's in negotiation to sell a portion of the company to an automotive company. Its current monetary woes are caused by shareholder Qingbo Investment Company not financing the company as agreed. "We plan to have the results of the discussions at latest during June," said Ostlund.

Saab's Victor Muller wanted to nix Griffin, return to airplane emblem

Tue, 09 Oct 2012

According to Just-Auto.com Victor Muller wasn't a fan of the Saab Griffin logo. The executive was quoted as saying he wanted to "abolish" the Griffin logo and return to the airplane emblem. Muller made it clear that if he'd had his way, the propeller would have replaced the Griffin across the Saab lineup long ago.
National Electric Vehicle Sweden, the company that recently bought Saab, was forced to abandon the Griffin logo due to the fact that the emblem is still used by truck manufacturer Scania. The manufacturer is reportedly concerned about potential Chinese counterfeiting - NEVS is owned by Youngman, a Chinese automaker - though it's unclear how that relationship would lead to illegal copies.
Either way, NEVS has said the loss of the Griffin logo isn't that important to the company so long as it can continue to build on the Saab name. Muller, meanwhile, said he wishes NEVS luck in the company's electric-vehicle endeavor, but that he doesn't understand its new business model.
