1989 SAAB 900T CONVERTIBLE

Now, the Saab story as they say. I purchased this car in 1994. That's right, 94! I bought it at an insurance auction in Georgia. It's always been in the south so no rust whatsoever. They had totaled the car out because of fire. The battery had caught fire and burned the right front corner of the car. (See picture) Over the next 4 years I slowly replaced everything necessary for it to be inspected and roadworthy. Hood, distributor, wiring harness from headlights to ignition switch, etc etc. Never any damage inside the car. Never any structural either. There is a small scratch on the right rear corner of the hood. (see picture) It could be touched up by a good artist.
Outside, the body is laser straight. Laser straight! Original paint except, of course, the hood and right fender.
SPG wheels with new tires.
Around 1999 or 2000 I sold it to a friend who drove it, then sold it to his son, who sold it back to me after a year or so, around 2001. Six years later I registered it again in 2007. While his son owned it, he replaced the steering rack, shocks, convertible top and a factory rebuilt transmission. Since he sold it back to me, in the 12 years since, I've put about 5K miles on it. Reupholstered the interior and many other little things. The back seats are original leather and the front seats are identical vinyl. This car has been well cared for.
The engine: SPG 9 stage one turbo kit. Injectors, APC box, adjustable fuel regulator, by pass valve etc. Modified Mitsubishi turbo to eliminate bottom end lag. This car is fast!!
The air conditioning is removed (compressor, condensor, drier and lines) but will come with the car. Since it is probably going to sell to someone in the north (no one knows what a Saab is in the deep south) I can't see installing it at this time. It all worked and will be in the trunk.
Also, new timing chain and tensioner installed two years ago. That's why the ac is off the car. In order to replace the timing chain, the engine has to come out of the car. Oh yes, super stereo system. And yes, the electric antennae goes up and down like it should. Comes with boxes of miscellaneous parts.
The car has been sitting in my garage for the last 5 years. Time to go.
Look at my feedback and buy with confidence.

Mahindra eying stake in Saab owner NEVS?
Tue, 17 Jun 2014It's ironic that Saab's current vehicle architecture is called the Phoenix platform, because like the mythological bird, the company keeps returning from the ashes. That's right, the embattled Swedish automaker isn't completely dead yet. Again. Actually, it may be facing yet another buyout, and this time, the buyer may be from India.
Less than a month ago, the situation looked ominous for Saab. National Electric Vehicle Sweden, the carmaker's current owner, temporarily shut down 9-3 production at its Trollhättan factory not long after restarting it in the first place. According to Just Auto, it laid off about 100 consultants allegedly linked to problems making June payroll, as well. At the time, Saab claimed that the measures were temporary, and it was negotiating selling part ownership to another automaker.
Those assertions might have some truth behind them, it seems. Indian newspaper The Economic Times reports that Mahindra & Mahindra and an unnamed Asian automaker are negotiating with NEVS to purchase part of the company. It claims that the Indian automaker sees Saab as an opportunity to add a premium brand to its business.
Last 900 Saabs heading to auction
Fri, 22 Jun 2012If you've been wanting to get your hands on one last new Saab but missed out on the great Saab sell-off when Saab Cars North America declared bankruptcy, well, your ship has now come in.
Actually, it came in last year - but hundreds of new Saabs got waylaid at ports in California and New Jersey because of the bankruptcy, according to SaabWorld.net. Those cars are now slated for auction, some 900 of them, which will be available for dealers, exporters and rental car companies to bid on beginning next week. Eventually, 300 of these cars should make their way to Saab dealers, where they're expected to be sold off at 30- to 50-percent discounts. The other 600 will either be exported or used as rentals, according to the report, so "the price of Saabs will not be severely depressed."
Besides the new cars, some 67 company cars, including some interesting stuff like a 1960 Saab Quantum IV and a 1970 Sonnett III, will also be auctioned off, according to the report. Of the new cars, just over half are 9-5 models, some 400 are 9-3 sedans, another 60 are 9-3 wagons, and about a dozen are convertibles. According to the report, 28 are actually 9-4X crossovers, which is more than 10 percent of Saab's total 2011 sales for that model.
Saab 900 SPG is the latest Petrolicious love story
Thu, 03 Oct 2013The latest video from the crew at Petrolicious covers one funky Swede - a 1989 Saab 900 SPG. Produced from 1978 to 1998, the 900 enjoyed a long history, and thanks to its iconic look, it's quickly becoming a modern classic for the off-kilter car enthusiast. The SPG, short for Special Performance Group, makes this a particularly rare find, with owner Jordan Melville saying, "I didn't even realize what I had at the time."
Melville gives a rundown of his life with the 900 and his passion for Saab overall, even reflecting on that dark day that saw the Swedish brand closed its doors. As always, the videography is excellent and the story is intriguing in this latest video from Petrolicious. You can view the entire video down below.
