I am selling my beloved Saab 900 SE Turbo. I have owned this car for just
over five years and have personally replaced nearly every nut and bolt on it due to
upgrades or maintenance. The car has a long story which I will be
happy to share with you. I wanted a Viggen but I like the look of the hatchback on the 1995, as well as the 2.0L turbo engine.
The work I have done includes but is not limited to the following: Increasingly hard to find Viggen Body Kit, "Viggen" Mitsubishi TD04 Turbocharger, 3” turbo back exhaust, Jak Stoll ECU tune, Taliafero aluminum intercooler, Short throw shifter that retains stock shifter height, front and rear strut tower braces, 1" rear anti roll bar, Bilstein HD dampers, Vogtland progressive rate springs, polyurethane suspension and steering bushings, 9-3 axle update to reduce torque steer, new transmission at 170k, brand new (less than 1000 miles) Viggen clutch and pressure plate and lightweight aluminum flywheel. I installed a new 2.0L engine last fall which I refreshed with every new seal, gasket, and o-ring. New polyurethane engine and transmission mounts. There are plenty of interior upgrades to modernize it like a 9-3. The stereo is a Clarion head unit, Kicker 4" dash speakers, Polk Momo 6"x9" rear deck speakers, Kicker 6.5" mid-bass door speakers and, if the buyer wants, a 10" Kicker L5 sub woofer in the trunk. 3/4 of the car was repainted last year. It has 17" Elbrus wheels with 3/8" wheel spacers for a nice flush tire fitment. The tires have less than 2000 miles on them and are 205/45-17 size General Gmax. It has Zimmerman cross-drilled rotors with EBC Redstuff brake pads with lots of life left on them. The only thing that should be addressed is a rust hole in the spare tire well which I am trying to find time to fix. Unfortunately this is a common problem with this generation Saab due to the shape of the rear hatch. I will take a picture if I can. Otherwise the car is completely rust free and shows excellent. I can take pictures of specifics and answer any questions you have upon request. This car runs VERY strong and is rather quick. It reliably holds about 25psi boost but still maintains 29mpg and stock drive ability aside from the lowered right height. Mechanically it needs nothing and is ready to drive away. The suspension work has done this car well. It holds the road impossibly well and rides fantastic at any speed. I have a folder of receipts and a spreadsheet of when I did much of the initial work that the buyer can have. And to answer the question people always ask; why am I selling it? Because I would like to focus my efforts on a classic car now and I need a garage bay :( |

Saab begins 9-3 EV pilot production
Thu, 10 Apr 2014To say that Saab has had a tough time lately would be like saying that it's been a little colder than usual this winter. After General Motors finally gave up and sold it to Spyker in 2010, Saab declared bankruptcy the following year. GM successfully blocked Spyker from selling Saab to Chinese automaker Youngman the following year, but ultimately it ended up in the hands of another Chinese consortium called NEVS. Standing as it does for National Electric Vehicle Sweden, the new owners promised not only to restart production of the long-suffering 9-3, but also to turn it into an electric vehicle. And that's just what it's doing.
The latest news coming out of Sweden indicates that NEVS/Saab has started building the first examples of the 9-3 EV. These first 200 or so examples are set to be shipped off to Qingdao - the Chinese city that is home to the Tsingtao brewery, hosted the sailing components of the 2008 summer games on Beijing, was supposed to host an IndyCar race in 2012 before it was canceled, and also itself just happens to own 22 percent of NEVS.
These first EVs have their batteries mounted down low in the chassis for a low center of gravity and have a range of about 20 miles on a full charge. That's absolutely paltry compared to the other EVs on the market: a Nissan Leaf will travel more than four times that distance, and a Tesla Model S will go ten times farther on a charge.
Saab US bankruptcy plan gets legal green-light
Thu, 18 Jul 2013It feels utterly bizarre that we're still talking about Saab, but Reuters is reporting that the bankrupt Swedish manufacturer's American arm has gotten approval from the US Bankruptcy Court to liquidate its assets and pay back creditors. As part of the plan, secured creditors like Ally Financial will receive full repayment. Unsecured creditors, consisting of those affected by abandoned leases and contracts will get anywhere from 25 to 82 percent of their money back.
There are currently $77 million in unsecured claims, according to Reuters, but that number doesn't include claims from former Saab dealers. Naturally, the entire affair is full of lawyers and legalese. A trust formed on the Saab side will be negotiating with creditors and their affiliates in an attempt to reduce claims against Saab. This sounds like the start of a long and sordid affair...
NEVS' reorganization plan approved after all?

Thursday, we reported that current Saab parent National Electric Vehicle Sweden had its application for creditor protection denied by the Swedish court for being "vague and completely undocumented." But NEVS was back in court on Friday, and this time the application was granted. However, the story continued to get weirder as defense contractor Saab AB allegedly revoked NEVS' rights to use the Saab name.
NEVS did put out a brief press release confirming the court decision saying: "The District court of Vänersborg, Sweden, today August 29 approved the application for reorganization from National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB." The company allegedly has over 90 creditors, and according to Reuters, it owes them roughly 400 million Swedish krona ($57.56 million). The business says that it is in negotiations with two, unnamed companies to get additional funding.
Also, according to Reuters, Saab AB, best known for making fighter planes, has revoked NEVS' rights to the Saab brand name because the company's application for creditor protection gave the defense contractor that right. When NEVS bought Saab, it only acquired the automaker's physical assets, and had to negotiate for the rights to use the name.
