2011 Scion Xb Handicap ( Wheelchair ) Conversion Van / Car on 2040-cars
Dodgeville, Wisconsin, United States
We are selling our one-owner Scion xb (made by Toyota) compact sport utility vehicle / car. We had it converted by Freedom Motors in Battle Creek, MI. As shown in the photos, it has a passenger side entry/ramp. We chose the manual ramp because it is quick and easy, as well as trouble free - we wanted to avoid the $$$ costly repairs to the automatic ramp in our previous minvan. The Scion xb has won the Top Safety Pick for 6 years in a row. Made by Toyota, the Scion is guaranteed to run for many, many more years.
The car will accommodate most wheelchairs, including most power wheelchairs, but unfortunately we unknowingly just bought our daughter one of the few that will not fit (a Permobil m300; the c300 does fit). Sadly, we have to go back to a minivan thus have to sell our Scion. The best feature of the Scion is it's awesome mileage - I get 33 mpg highway and 26 or 27 city. I usually average 30 or so because I do a little of both - though that number drops in the really cold weather. My mileage is higher than the ratings for the vehicle. I assume that's because it has a MANUAL TRANSMISSION. The configuration worked great for our family - my daughter in her wheelchair sits beside the driver and there is still seating for 3 more passengers in the back. Also an impressive amount of storage in the rear area (more than the minivan we switched out of for the Scion!). One of my photos shows the car with the original cloth seat back in place, but it rolls out for wheelchair use. We have put about 57,000 miles on the car and my husband diligently changed oil and kept up with all maintenance. The air conditioning works great, and it has cruise and a stereo with cd player and comfortable driver's seat. We recently put new tires on the car so they should last a good long while. I would never be selling, except for the issue with my daughter's power chair. We also will include a set of q'straint straps. There is also a trailer hitch, as this car can pull a trailer or very light camper. So if you have the ability to drive a 5 speed manual (or are willing to learn - it's fun!) and are looking for a very fuel efficient wheelchair-converted vehicle, this car is a welcome alternative to the minivan. Again, most chairs will fit, but you will need to check yours specifically. We have no mechanical issues whatsoever - we took care of it carefully and intended to drive it for years yet. One of our photos shows a small (nickel-sized) dent in passenger rear over the tire, and there are a couple scratches that go with it. Other than that the body is in great shape.

Scion reveals iM concept ahead of LA debut
Wed, 12 Nov 2014After dropping a teaser image on us a few weeks ago, Scion has revealed in full the new iM Concept it's bringing to the Los Angeles Auto Show next week. As expected, the concept is clearly a rebadged version of the Euro-market Toyota Auris, only with some "European Racing Circuit Styling" upgrades to make it look more aggressive.
Along with the Scion logos, the five-door hatch is treated to a deeper air dam flanked by angular vents with stacked fog lamps, beefed-up wheel arches linked by widened side sills and filled with 19-inch, anthracite-finish alloys on low-profile rubber. Vented brake discs and four-piston calipers join an adjustable suspension as show-worthy equipment upgrades.
The sporty treatment continues around back with a similarly aggressive rear bumper and roof spoiler. Even the wing mirrors are replaced with narrower units. Little wonder it's all done up in a shade Scion calls "incrediblue" that looks rather similar to what sister-brand Lexus would put on one of its F-branded performance models - or for that matter what corporate ally Subaru would put on an STI hot hatches like the WRX.
Customize a Scion, make it out of paper [w/video]
Fri, 14 Dec 2012Shin Tanaka is a "Japanese artist, graffiti writer, paper toy creator, designer" with Kennedy Center credentials - his Paper Shaper sneakers are especially popular. Scion has done a DIY collaboration with Tanaka that can get you every one of Scion's five models as a Paper Shaper.
There are two ways to get in on the auto origami, the first being to stop by the Scion booth if you happen by one of the coming season's auto shows. Since that's a lot of work and waiting to acquire a perforated sheet of paper, you can also download the Scion Paper Shaper app from iTunes. In the app you can customize your model, complete with custom paper sneakers on the custom paper base, then print it out and build it yourself.
If you have any more questions, well, the video and photos below will put it all together for you.
Scion gets touchscreen audio across the board
Fri, 16 Aug 2013On a constant mission to court younger buyers, Scion will be adding some new in-car technology to its lineup for the 2014 model year. All Scion products will now come standard with a 6.1-inch touchscreen audio head unit that we first saw on the 2014 tC (as shown above).
In standard form, this head unit will feature HD Radio, Bluetooth and auxiliary and USB ports. Opting for the $1,198 BeSpoke Premium system brings navigation, integrated social media apps, geo-located POIs and Aha internet radio.
Other changes announced along with the new touchscreen include new two-tone paint schemes for the 2014 xD, a limited-production iQ and pricing for the 2014 lineup. As shown in the gallery, customers can now choose from silver-on-blue and black-over-grey paint combos. The iQ Monogram gets a burgundy-over-silver paint job with a limited run of just 150 units, and it goes on sale in October starting at $16,520 (not including $755 for destination).
