This posting is for a beige on tan 1996 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD V6 with a 5 speed manual transmission. truck has 263,000 miles on it. (miles may go up between now and sale, I do still drive it on a non-regular basis). Good: * fresh timing belt service with water pump, three idler wheels and hydraulic tensioner (OEM belt) * new correct DENSO plugs * newer steering rack (09) * 4WD works great * engine starts up every time, no odd noises or issues. perfect engine * transmission is smooth and quiet. no grinds or issues. * transfer case is good. no issues, noises or odd behavior * the Yokohama Geolandar tires are in great shape and have 75+% tread * the truck gets about 17mpg combined. not bad for what it is. 21-23 highway 14-15 city. * high-end Alpine stereo with iPod plug, upgraded speakers. * power sunroof * power rear hatch glass (whole hatch was replaced last winter with much nicer one from a 98 SR5.) * newer exhaust muffler * 1 1/4 ” reciever hitch w/ powered tail light converter harness (4 pin) * WeatherTech® floor liners in the front. best thing ever for a Minnesota vehicle. they’re great. the things that aren’t perfect: * the rocker panels are pretty rusty * the valve cover gaskets leak a little oil (under a half quart between changes) * one of the two front CV axle boots is starting to age. not cracked yet, but within a couple of years, it’ll need a new boot on it. again, overall it is a GREAT truck. only reason I am selling it is I picked up a 5 speed BMW X5 out of the blue. had that not showed up, I would happily drive this 4runner all day every day. It is not perfect, being an 18 year old Minnesota truck, but all things considered, it is in nice shape and great mechanically. |

PickupTrucks.com's latest test results in a familiar winner [w/video]
Wed, 19 Jun 2013PickupTrucks.com has gone and thrown the latest batch of half-ton pickups into a cage match to see who would come out on top. The site put the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2013 Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan through a battery of tests. Those included 0-60 miles per hour acceleration, 60-0 mph deceleration, fuel economy, a hill climb, and payload and towing. They even threw the rigs on an autocross course to evaluate overall handling. Each truck was given points based on how it scored in each evaluation.
Who came out on top? Somewhat surprisingly, the 2013 Ford F-150 walked away with the gold, though fewer than 50 points separated first and fourth place. Toyota Auris Touring Sports is a handsome Prius V alternative [w/videos]
Wed, 06 Mar 2013The Toyota Prius V has a lot to recommend it, but adventurous and sporty styling is not in its repertoire. That's why this new Auris Touring Sports has our attention. Claimed to be the "first full hybrid estate car" in the compact class, this two-box Auris has genuine visual panache to go with its load-lugging capability and parsimonious fuel economy. In the metal, we think its v-shaped grille and headlamp treatment acquits itself better than it does on the new RAV4, a model that shares its new design language.
Built by Toyota UK, the Auris Touring Sports hybrid is powered by a familiar-sounding 1.8-liter gas engine paired with an electric motor, with total system output quoted at 134 horsepower. The model will also be available in a variety of gas or diesel trims if you prefer your vehicle sans electrification (a non-hybrid model is shown). Toyota TRD Pro lineup coming next week
Thu, 30 Jan 2014A mysterious Toyota commercial recently popped up on YouTube teasing a new TRD Pro lineup for the Tundra, Tacoma and 4Runner, and now we're getting our first official word straight from the automaker on the matter. Courtesy of its Facebook page, Toyota is promising that the TRD Pro models will be introduced on February 6th, ready to "conquer the great outdoors."
This date just so happens to mark the first day of the always-truck-friendly Chicago Auto Show, so while Toyota isn't saying as much, we're almost certain the trucks will show up next week in the Windy City. It's not clear what sort of upgrades TRD Pro brings, but it definitely includes black wheels and a tweaked front end featuring a thick, single-bar grille and bold lettering in place of the stylized Toyota logo (shown above on the Tundra).
