This has been a great car for my wife and I since 2003.  My wife bought the car used in Greenville, SC at CarMax.  It gets about 34 miles per gallon.  The car rides very nice.  It rides better than my Mini Cooper by far.  It is a great family car.  It is in pretty good shape.  It has 202,753 miles.  It still runs very well.  We have only had two mechanical problems with the car since it was purchased.  The cam assembly on the driver side rear window broke about 8 years ago.  I purchased a new one at the Toyota dealer in Anderson, SC and have had no more problems with that window or any of the others.  The only other mechanical problem that we have had is that the timing belt broke about 5 years ago.  We had that replaced at a garage in Norwood, NC where we now live.  In about 2011 I had the belts replaced at a garage in Charlotte.  The tires have good wear left on them.  Those were purchased in about 2009 also.  Sometimes the trunk release button will not release the trunk.  I never tried to adjust, it was just occassional enough that it didn't really cause an inconvenience.  The windshield had a crack in it and I had it replaced in about 2008.  One night in Charlotte, the battery cable broke, it was very strange, replaced the battery clamp and there have been no further problems.  The battery is probably about 4 years old.  I had the transmission fluid replaced also at some point.  The oil has been changed at 3,000 or 5,000 mile intervals.  Toyota recomendations are 5,000, so when it would be changed at a place that followed the recomendations, it would get changed at 5,000 mile intervals.  If I changed it, I changed it at 3,000 mile intervals.  The car has never done anything strange like overheat, or leak oil, or make strange noises.  It has been a great car, just get in and turn the key.  It is one of the more basic models, it has power windows, power locks, CD player, it has a tape deck, but I think that it did not play well, air conditioning, power mirrors, driver and passenger air bags, cloth interior, it does have the nice Camry floor mats, console, it has a full size spare, and I think that is about it.  One hubcap was lost somewhere and I bought a set of 4 replica replacement hubcaps.

In about 2007 I was coming home from work one night in November from Rockingham.  I just about got to Mt. Gilead and hit a dear.  I took the car to Griffin Toyota in Rockingham and had it repaired.  The hood was replaced, one of the headlight lenses, one of the blinker lenses, the driver side front fender, and it was painted.  The car looked great.  It is just a good looking car.  Nice color, nice stance on the ground, nice lines, etc...  It was a great commuter car, 34 mpg and comfortable.  It has the 4 cylinder, but it has enough power, to drive nicely.  I used the car for 3 years on a 75 mile round trip and prior to that my wife used it in South Carolina for several years on about a 60 mile round trip for her job.

In 2011 I was driving this car to work and avoided a deer and went into a ditch.  This caused extensive damage to the front bumper, broke the windshield washer container, broke the passenger side mirror, broke the passenger side headlight, broke the passenger side signal light, tore out the passenger side wheel well liner, caused some mild scratches down the side, and caused some mild dents.  My wife came and pulled me out of the ditch.  I drove the car home, about 18 miles from where I went into the ditch.  The car continued and still does run excellent.  The insurance company came and stated that it would cost more to repair it than it was worth.  My wife and I knew this was a great car and knew that it still ran great.  We bought it back from the insurance company and it has been repaired.  The front bumper has been replaced and painted to match, the headlight, the signal light, the windshield solvent tank, the passenger side mirror, the only thing that I did not replace was the hood.  The hood has some dents in it.  I tried to take pictures to show the dents, but they were difficult to see.  Once repaired, I drove the car on a 75 mile round trip for some time to make sure that it was OK.  Then my wife drove it on about a 22 mile trip commute to work with no issue.  My wife would even take the car on 3-4 hour one way road trips with our baby, never had a problem.  So, the car does have a salvaged title, but it is a very good and sound vehicle.  It is dependable and runs like a top.  My wife and I came upon an oppurtunity to purchase a Prius, and that is the only reason that we have decided to sell it.

My wife detailed the inside of the care, it is very clean.  I washed it and waxed on Sunday.  I also changed the oil and filter.  You are set for another 3,000 or 5,000 miles, that's up to you.  I also replaced the air filter.  The engine pictures show it exactly how it is.  I could have pressure washed it and made it look shiny but I wanted to show you that without that, it is still a clean and well taken care of motor.

So now it is up to you.  I don't know what this car is worth?  Yes, it does have a salvaged title, but that does not mean that it is not a good dependable safe car.  Please feel free to e-mail me any questions.  It is not registered at present, so I cannot bring the car to you.  You will have to come pick up the car.  Good luck and HAPPY BIDDING!

Toyota profits up 23% on high US sales, despite mounting legal costs

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

Toyota earned $9.3 billion in net income in the financial year that ends next month. The number beats earlier forecasts and marks a five-year high for the automaker, with both operating income and revenue up by 9.5 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively. Toyota saw quarterly profit enjoy a year-on-year jump of 23.4 percent, with the manufacturer earning more than $1 billion between October and December 2012. The good news comes in spite of the fact that the Japanese automaker actually endured an operating loss in North America, due in part to legal fees.
Toyota is set to pay more than $1 billion to owners who claim their vehicles decreased in value as a result of the company's recent spate of recalls. Even so, all three of the automaker's brands enjoyed a 13.5 percent sales increase in the US in the last quarter, beating the industry average. Toyota faltered in Europe, however, where it earned $99 million in operating profit last year, compared to $111 million in 2011. You can take a closer look at the company's full press release below for more information.

2014 Toyota Corolla gets marginal IIHS small overlap crash test score [w/video]

Fri, 04 Oct 2013

Toyota may have performed some major surgery on the 2014 Corolla, but that hasn't helped the Japanese automaker overcome tough new crash test procedures. The Corolla, Toyota's bread-and-butter compact sedan, managed only a Marginal score on the new small overlap crash test, which was just added last year.
Despite the low score, the Corolla performed well in the moderate overlap front, side, rollover and rear testing, which was enough to score it a 2013 Top Safety Pick. In testing in August, six of the Corolla's competitors earned the Top Safety Pick + award, for good or acceptable scores across the board.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Corolla's "Marginal" score was down to an "intruding structure," that could cause injuries to the lower left leg. There was also concern that in a collision, the driver's head would move after hitting the air bag, and collide with the A-pillar or dash.

Four Wheeler crowns Ultimate Factory 4x4... who wins?

Thu, 15 Nov 2012

Nearly every automaker doing business in the SUV or pickup truck segments offers a package designed to improve the off-road capabilities of its wares. But, of course, not all such factory kits are created equal. How, then, to separate the wheat from the chaff? Gather each of them up and put them through their paces, naturally.
The folks from Four Wheeler and PickupTrucks.com joined forces to run just such a comparison test, with the winner named the Ultimate Factory 4x4. A total of seven vehicles showed up to the fight: the 2012 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, 2012 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X and Xterra PRO-4X, 2012 Ram Power Wagon, and 2012 Toyota 4Runner Trail and Tacoma TRD T|X Baja Series.
With the contestants in place, the whole crew put each vehicle through a battery of tests that included skidpad and acceleration measurements, a hillclimb, a rocky stairstep course and a rock garden. Considering the nature of the beasts, on-road ride and comfort were not part of the routine.
