1974 Toyota Landcruiser with unknown miles on body, odometer hasn't worked since I've owned it.  Has a completely, freshly rebuilt 2F motor out of a 1986 FJ60.

Motor has had:
-new crankshaft
-new cam
-new oil pump
-all bearings, main, rod, cam are new
-new water pump
-new pistons and rings
-block bored and cleaned
-head completely done
-and all/any smog equipment removed
-new radiator, radiator hoses, and heater hoses
-all recently done with less than 5,000 miles
-Motor runs very well and is very strong.
-I have an extra 4 speed transmission that will go with the sale.  It has a fairey type overdrive mounted to it.  I was going to swap it out with the current 4 speed, but I never got around to it.
-Man-a-fre header with new magnaflow type exhaust.
-4 Brand new BF Goodrich Mud Terrains, 33 x 12.50 x 15, less than 500 miles.
-Old Man Emu shocks and steering stabilizer, less than 1000 miles.
-Completely new 4 wheel drum brake rebuilds.  Hoses, shoes, wheel cylinders, I can't remember if the drums were turned or if they were new.
-New headliner
-Seats were recovered just before I bought it.
-New windshield and gasket.
-New cargo window gaskets.
-New door gaskets.
-New tailgate and rear window gaskets.  Rear window works by switch on dash, but not by key on tailgate.
-New Alpine in dash cd player with 6" speakers in all 4.
-There is a small hole in the driver's side floor board where it meets the rockers and about the same size hole on the passenger's side.
-Paint job is about a 10  footer.  It looks great from 10 foot away, but when you get closer, you can notice some flaws.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something about this truck, If you have any questions, please ask.  Bidders are encouraged to come and look at the truck before bidding.  A $500.00 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of the auction ending.  Remainder due within 48 hours of the auction ending.  I will accept paypal or cash at pick up.

Toyota builds world's first 'outdoor website' for RAV4 promo

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

This whole thing started with the premise that Toyota's target RAV4 buyers are people who spend their time cycling, hiking, and generally not in front of computer screens. These people are therefore not able to benefit from the full website experience that Toyota has built for the RAV4. We should clarify that the video below is for Toyota South Africa, and maybe RAV4 buyers there really are the disgustingly outdoorsy ideal that us bacon-eaters are not living up to.
Toyota's agency partner, Hello Computer, set up a 1.8-kilometer track at a cycle park that replicated sections of the automaker's website with real physical displays and interactive feedback. Riders were asked to leave their mouses and hit the trail on a mountain bike to experience the RAV4 Outdoor Website and learn about the vehicle.
That seems like a lot of effort for something that's available on the smartphones of these hyper-active people who aren't in front of computers, but hooray for creatively conquering a problem that didn't exist. Hey, let's not be complete wet blankets - maybe some of the cyclists that ran the Toyota gauntlet got a RAV4 for their to- and fro-ing after the experience. Check out the video of the outdoor website below.

Thieves still love older Hondas and pickups most, says NICB [w/video]

Wed, 20 Aug 2014

No one wants to have their car stolen, but a new study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau has some bad news for older Honda owners and pickup drivers. Fortunately, it has better news for drivers overall. The group is reporting that according to preliminary data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, thefts were down 3.2 percent in 2013 (versus 2012) to fewer than 700,000 cars. That's the lowest figure since 1967. That's also less than half of the peak of over 1.66 million thefts in 1991. "The drop in thefts is good news for all of us," says NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. "But it still amounts to a vehicle being stolen every 45 seconds and losses of over $4 billion a year."
Honda drivers might not find it such good news with older Accord and Civic models topping this year's theft study. Toyota and Dodge can't really celebrate, either, with two models each on the list, as well. Overall, this year's list was split evenly between foreign and domestic models, which were mostly pickups.
The 10 most likely vehicles to be stolen in 2013 were:

Toyota retires robots in favor of humans to improve automaking process

Sat, 12 Apr 2014

Mitsuru Kawai is overseeing a return to the old ways at Toyota factories throughout Japan. Having spent 50 years at the Japanese automaker, Kawai remembers when manual skills were prized at the company and "experienced masters used to be called gods, and they could make anything." Company CEO Akio Toyoda personally chose Kawai to develop programs to teach workers metalcraft such as how to forge a crankshaft from scratch, and 100 workstations that formerly housed machines have been set aside for human training.
The idea is that when employees personally understand the fabrication of components, they will understand how to make better machines. Said Kawai, "To be the master of the machine, you have to have the knowledge and the skills to teach the machine." Lessons learned by the newly skilled workers have led to shorter production lines - in one case, 96percent shorter - improved parts production and less scrap.
Taking time to give workers the knowledge to solve problems instead of merely having them "feed parts into a machine and call somebody for help when it breaks down," Kawai's initiative is akin to that of Toyota's Operations Management Consulting Division, where new managers are given a length of time to finish a project but not given any help - they have to learn on their own. It's not a step back from Toyota's quest to build more than ten million cars a year; it's an effort to make sure that this time they don't sacrifice quality while making the effort. Said Kawai, "We need to become more solid and get back to basics."
