1972 FJ40 Frame off restoration done in 2005

I started this project in 2002 with a 'rolling frame' and. 1972 tub. Stripped everything down and started from the ground floor. I have done about 14 Land Cruiser rebuilds or Restorations and had accumulated allot of parts in the process. My plan was to keep this cruiser and I wanted to put the best of all the Land Cruiser features into one FJ40. So, I started with a 1972 frame, the drive
Train from a 1984 FJ60, the top and ambulance doors from a 1983 FJ40, Toyota power steering from a mini Truck and a split Hood from a 1968 FJ40. Everything on the Cruiser is new or restored Toyota Land Cruiser parts, right down to the nuts and bolts.
The Cruiser comes with the half doors and Tailgate, for summer time, everyone likes to run around with their top off, right?
The frame was sandblasted and powder coated, new springs with 2 inch lift. Disk Brake front axel from a 1978 Fj40, rear axel is original. 2 F engine, Transmission and T-Case from a 1984 FJ60, rebuilt with a Man-a-Fre RV Cam, non us Toyota Carb and a DUI Distributor. Stock Toyota Power Steering and BTB break booster/ master set up. The Cruiser runs great and has passed Utah emissions every year. Only one little rust spot, below the driver door. The jump seats need to be recovered and the amp gage is not working properly. I used a Painless wiring harness in the restoration and never had the amp gage working properly and have not run down the issue ( I was always going to get new Gage's from BTB and mess with it then)

2014 Toyota 4Runner Limited

Thu, 08 May 2014

What would you say if we told you that outside of Jeep and Land Rover, the best brand for those who want to go off road is Toyota? Sounds remarkable, eh? But the truth is, Toyota's history of providing vehicles for the rougher bits of our blue marble dates back to 1950, barely a decade after Willys built the first Jeeps and only a few years after Land Rover made its big debut with the iconic Series I.
In fact, Toyota's start in off-roaders was with a small contract for providing the US Army with vehicles, during the Korean War. From that, the BJ was spawned. This Jeep-like vehicle evolved into the 20 Series and then into the iconic 40 Series Land Cruiser in the 1960s.
So yes, Toyota knows its way around the trails. While the Land Cruiser, deservedly, gets all the attention thanks to its impressive longevity, we're partial to the 4Runner, which is a far more affordable entry that serves as Toyota's challenger to the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Toyota i-Road is no less strange in the flesh

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

We've seen plenty of three-wheeled creations in our day, but none quite like the Toyota i-Road Concept. The "personal mobility vehicle" offers seating for two with driver and passenger positioned in a tandem position. While that may sound more like a motorcycle than a car, the closed cockpit means riders don't need a helmet. The design also takes a page from the 2008 Peugeot HyMotion3 Concept with an articulating front suspension that allows the driver to lean through corners thanks to "Active Lean" self-balancing technology. Unlike the funky Pug, however, the i-Road is a fully electric plug-in vehicle.
While there are just five-horsepower on hand from an electric motor, the i-Road should serve up a range of around 30 miles thanks to its lithium-ion battery, and Toyota claims the cells can be topped off in three hours with a "conventional domestic power supply." Sounds majestic. Take in the full press release below.

Next-gen Toyota Prius spied inside and out

Fri, 24 May 2013

Toyota has built itself into the industry's standard-bearer when it comes to hybrids, and it isn't going to let the poster child for gas-electric vehicles get stale on the market. These spy shots captured in California are our first good look at the next-generation Prius, which could come to market wearing a 2015 model year designation.
Even though it looks like Toyota may have blown its annual camouflage budget on this mule, we can clearly see that it will have the same iconic half-moon design that has been with the car since 2003. If so, this goes against reports from last year that suggested the car would be getting a different look inspired by the 2013 NS4 Concept. Although, this could also indicate that the Prius family will continue to grow - adding a new sedan - to the existing Prius C, Prius V and Prius Plug-In lineup.
These spy shots also give us an indication as to what the interior will look like, with a more stylish three-spoke steering wheel and an instrument panel design that sort of reminds us of a BMW. On the other hand, all the tape, cobbled together pieces and lack of space for a center stack display screen has us thinking this isn't what the final product will resemble.
