Toyota Land Cruiser Landcruiser Fj40 Survivor Excellent Condition Low Miles on 2040-cars

Year:1980 Mileage:114330

Powderhorn, Colorado, United States

Up for auction is this 1980 FJ40 in excellent, all original, untampered-with condition. It is getting rare to find all original FJ40s for sale that haven't been modified or restored (poorly in many cases) This 40 is a true survivor and you wont find another one like it easily. It is in amazing condition.

This 40 is almost rust free. FJ40s were always prone to rust, but the later the model year, the rustier they usually are. In 1979, Toyota changed the body of the FJ40 to relocate the gas tank to under the vehicle instead of under the passenger seat. These later 40s are some of the most desirable, yet are very very hard to find in restorable condition because of body and frame rust. It is very common on an FJ40 of this era to have to replace the inner fender wells, quarter panels, rockers, floor boards, ambulance door bottoms, driver and passenger door bottoms, windshield frame, front bib, fenders, and more with new panels. This FJ40 needs NONE OF THOSE PANELS replaced. I have included pictures of all of the commonly rusted areas to show how little rust there is. The worst rust is on the rear sill, and there is some surface rust here and there on the body. The paint is all original with no body work to hide flawed areas. The stripes are dealer added. Other than the rust I've mentioned, there is no significant body damage anywhere on the vehicle.

Mechanically this FJ40 is in excellent condition. It has had no mechanical alterations. With only 114,000 miles, to start it and drive it is what I'd like to think is as close to driving a new one as possible. It starts up and runs great. The entire drivetrain is tight and in excellent condition. This 40 also has rare factory power steering. The tires are almost new BFG muds.

There aren't many negatives with this FJ40, but the 2 worst are that someone added a sunroof at some point, and that the headliner is falling down. Another is that the factory front bumper has been removed. I can assist in locating an OEM one for the buyer if you like.

I've taken lots of pictures and they speak to the condition of the 40. There are no surprises and I'm confident that the buyer will be more than satisfied with it in person. The Land Cruiser is at my place in Colorado. I will be glad to help arrange shipping for the buyer if necessary.

Feel free to email with any questions. This Land Cruiser is an investment that, with the proper care, will continue to gain in value. I am not interested in any trades or lowering the price below the opening bid. Please don't ask.

Thieves still love older Hondas and pickups most, says NICB [w/video]

Wed, 20 Aug 2014

No one wants to have their car stolen, but a new study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau has some bad news for older Honda owners and pickup drivers. Fortunately, it has better news for drivers overall. The group is reporting that according to preliminary data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, thefts were down 3.2 percent in 2013 (versus 2012) to fewer than 700,000 cars. That's the lowest figure since 1967. That's also less than half of the peak of over 1.66 million thefts in 1991. "The drop in thefts is good news for all of us," says NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. "But it still amounts to a vehicle being stolen every 45 seconds and losses of over $4 billion a year."
Honda drivers might not find it such good news with older Accord and Civic models topping this year's theft study. Toyota and Dodge can't really celebrate, either, with two models each on the list, as well. Overall, this year's list was split evenly between foreign and domestic models, which were mostly pickups.
The 10 most likely vehicles to be stolen in 2013 were:

Airbag recall adds 85k Pontiac Vibes to tally

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

The repairs needed for the faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata continue to expand. Toyota initially announced a recall of 766,300 vehicles equipped with the bad part on June 11 as a followup to a campaign from 2013. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary evaluation into five automakers who also used the component in their models. Now, NHTSA has released the official announcement of the latest Toyota recall listing 844,277 affected cars, including the newly added 2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe.
While NHTSA's document didn't include a model-by-model breakdown, General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler estimated to Autoblog that roughly 85,000 Vibes in the US would be covered under the latest recall. Like the rest of the affected models, the airbag inflator could rupture in a crash causing the bag not to work correctly, possibly spraying metal fragments at the occupant.
Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the reason for the disparity between the earlier press release and NHTSA document was that Toyota was continuing to comb through VINs to create a list of affected vehicles. The original number was an estimate of that process at the time. Scroll down to the recall report from NHTSA.

Mazda's new Mexican plant capacity rises to 230,000

Sat, 05 Jan 2013

After the turmoil of last year, 2013 is getting off to a much better start for Mazda. The company has issued a release indicating that the forthcoming plant in Salamanca, Mexico has had its production capacity raised even though it isn't scheduled to go online until March 2014. The original plans called for a 140,000-unit capacity, 90,000 of that allotted for the Mazda2 and Mazda3, the remaining 50,000 for a small car Mazda would build for Toyota that would be based on the Mazda2. The new plans call for raising that by 90,000 units to a total of 230,000 units within two years, by the end of March 2016, and it looks like it will all go toward Mazda production to satisfy growing demand for Skyactiv vehciles. The Mexican plant's opening will be the return of Mazda manufacturing to North America, after Mazda6 production was moved back to Japan last year.
More good news for the company is that it projects 10 billion yen ($114 million) in net income for the financial year that will end in March. That would be a welcome turnaround from the 100-billion-yen loss in the previous financial year, part of a series of three annual losses in a four-year span.
You'll find the press release with the factory update below.
