I bought this car from my cousin a little over a year and a half ago, he bought it off the showroom floor brand new, in 1993. His wife died of cancer and the car was stored since then in his garage in Ohio. My uncle faithfully started this car at least once a week to keep all systems working. I've always wanted one of these. Since owning my own restoration shop for years I decided to give it the overall mechanical treatment to make sure it was reliable. I am A.S.E and I-Car certified. Ive put 6000 miles on it driving cross country a few times. (Im 6 foot 6 and it is extremely comfortable, I also have back problems but not driving this car). When I bought it I replaced , tires, brakes, starter, fuel pump, fuel filter, distributor, coil, starter relay, wires, plugs, air and oil filters, and battery. Eight speaker pioneer HD cd player was installed in original factory holes with no modifications or cutting of dash or interior. I have the original cassette to be included with purchase. The factory color shines like new, I give it a once a year hand polish and carnuba wax to keep it protected. There is a scratch on the left quarter panel that only penetrates the clear coat, there is minor color peeling on bottom of front lower bumper cover, normal from high parking blocks, and minor damage around the antenna. NO RUST. any other small imperfections in the body are not worth mentioning. The interior is a 9.5 out of 10, no burns or fading or obvious wear on seats etc. The leather cover on shifter handle should be replaced. Recently the water pump went out taking the timing belt with it. I have no place to work on it in winter, but I have a mechanic that will fix it for 200 to 250 labor and The parts come as a kit on E Bay for approx. 120 dollars. I am buying a house here and I hate to part with this great car, but I need the money. If I cant sell it as is, I will wait and fix it and the price will go up to what it is really worth, at least 7500 dollars. I will sell it one of two ways. With a 1500 dollar deposit, and by adding 500 dollars to price, I will have the water pump fixed and then you can pick it up, or as is with a 1000 dollar deposit. the deposit is to remove it from listings, and is not refundable. before you take the vehicle all money must be paid, either way, it is being sold as is with no refunds. THIS CAR IS ALREADY CLASSIC AND IS VERY DESIREABLE AND HARD TO FIND IN THIS CONDITION, mid engine rear wheel drive it handles like a race car and still gets 33MPG. Buyer is responsible for transportation.

Ford F-150 bumps Camry from top of Cars.com American Made Index

Tue, 25 Jun 2013

With July 4th just around the corner, what better time could there be for Cars.com to announce that the Ford F-150 is the Most American car of 2013? This may be especially true since it was the Toyota Camry, a car produced by a company based in Japan, that had held the top spot from 2009 to 2012.
Cars.com compiles its Most American list by considering the amount of parts each vehicle uses that come from America, where it's final assembly takes place and how many units per year are sold. "While the assembly point and domestic parts content of the F-150 didn't change from 2012-2013, vehicle sales are responsible for bumping the F-150 to the top spot," according to Patrick Olsen, Editor-in-Chief of Cars.com.
As far as automakers go (as opposed to individual models), Toyota retains the top spot it held in 2012, with General Motors, Chrysler, Ford and Honda (in that order) rounding out the list. The motivation behind this list each year, according to Olsen, is "to help car shoppers understand that 'American-Made' extends beyond just the Detroit three" and because "a study we conducted in 2012 indicated that 25 percent of shoppers surveyed preferred to buy American."

Toyota 86 most likely to get more power through more displacement? [w/poll]

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

The Sydney Morning Herald has spoken to Tetsuya Tada, chief engineer of the Toyota 86 (our version of it, the Scion FR-S, is pictured above), and they've been promised that more power is on the way. We've heard a lot of speculation about a more powerful Toyobaru since before the standard model was even launched. The only question now is how the power will be delivered, and among the engine concepts we've already heard about - turbo, supercharger, twin-charged, hybrid - is a new one: more displacement.
Tada said that an engine with more displacement than the current coupe's 2.0 liters is being tested alongside a turbocharged and a hybrid-assisted motor. The SMH cites "inside sources" as saying the displacement option is the one likely to get the go-ahead, and suggests increased bore and stroke will see the engine grow to 2.5 liters, horsepower to about 250 - a 50-hp increase over the present car.
While that's apparently the betting man's solution for the long-awaited increase in gumption, what happens with the next generation could be more wide open than we suspected. According to the report, Tada "hinted that [a successor] could be a radically different car, potentially dropping the boxer engine altogether." He said once they've sorted out the concept for the second generation car, then they'll sort out an engine. That's where a turbo option could come to market, perhaps the turbocharged four-cylinder Toyota is developing for the Lexus NX crossover or a hybrid system that uses a capacitor.

Sports 800 is a progenitor of Toyota performance

Tue, 18 Nov 2014

There's an automotive axiom that claims it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. If that's the case, then pushing a Toyota Sports 800 around must be one of the most exhilarating experiences behind the wheel in the world. With just 800cc of displacement from a two-cylinder boxer engine, the focus is on finesse over outright speed. Still, it's a fantastic page in Toyota's performance history, and Petrolicious takes a ride with a man who owns a meticulously restored 1967 example in its latest video.
The Sports 800 used the classic cost-saving strategy in the auto industry of taking parts from a standard model in the lineup and modifying it into a sports car. In this case that meant borrowing the engine from the plebian Toyota Publica, beefing it up for more power and clothing the whole thing a in beautifully shaped, wind-tunnel-honed body.
The look of these lithe, targa roadsters is the exact opposite of the rather dull styling sometimes associated with Toyota today. Everywhere you look there are louvers, vents or curves to draw the eye. Check out the latest Petrolicious video for a detailed look at the history of this rare model that's largely unknown on this side of the Pacific.
