This is the most awesome van in the world... but know that the headgasket is starting to leak and it's going to need to be replaced in the near future. I'm afraid I don't have the patience or expertise to get it repaired.

With that in mind... I am the second owner of this shockingly clean 92 Toyota Previa Fourtrac (all wheel drive) with the very rare 5-speed manual transmission. It has only 149K miles and the interior is all original and nearly perfect. Opening the door and looking inside this van never ceases to amaze and fellow Previa owners. Looks new and even smells nice! (I had it all shampood and steamed last fall). I paid $5500 for it a year ago and spent another $1500 in improvements including new tires, wheels, stereo (with ipod/USB input, Pandora, Bluetooth and hands free mic, Sirius XM radio, CD) drivers seat recovered... The van has factory cruise control and AC.

Unfortunately in the last month it has started showing white smoke/steam from the tailpipe when it's started in the morning. Once it warms up it seems to run fine, but my mechanic says that the headgasket is in the early stages of blowing. It has been super-dependable up until this point and while it uses coolant I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a road trip tomorrow. You definitely don't need to trailer it to its new home if you don't want to.

It has (aftermarket) dark tinted windows which makes it perfect for camping in and hides your bikes and skis from prying eyes. This van is all wheel drive and is awesome in the snow. Rear seats fold flat against the wall. I have the original middle bench seat, which is removeable.

22 miles per gallon and mid-engine make it really fun and practical to drive anywhere you want to explore. More maneuverable, slightly more practical, and way less expensive than a Sprinter Van.

PROS: Excellent white paint is in very good shape, no accidents, best looking Previa I've ever seen, amazingly clean interior with zero tears or blemishes on the seats, carpet, or headliner. All wheel drive and fresh tires make this van the ultimate winter driver. Rare and fun 5-speed transmission, tons of cargo room, and the Previa is one of the most versatile vans ever made. Would be totally worth your time to repair or replace the engine.

CONS: Needs a new head gasket, air conditioning blows cool - but far from cold, has small dent in the hood (see pic - dent has a small brown line/crease in lower right of hood) and a crack in the windshield (see pic). Tinted windows look great from the outside but have a lot of small scratches (on the window tine film) on the inside.

Race Recap: 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans defines 'endurance'

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

Commenting on the rush of events that rocked beginning and end of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Paul Truswell of Radio Le Mans said "the race is about the ability to endure, not just the ability of drivers to do what they do for a long time." The entire race machine, all the way down to the pit boards and radios, has to survive the stress and abuse of the entire day. This was the race to prove those words.
There were two Toyotas, two Porsches and three Audis, five of the seven led the race at some point, six of the seven ran in the top three. Toyota will be hugely disappointed that it didn't win when its car and drivers were so, so strong, but they gave Audi the kind of scare we haven't seen since the best of Peugeot's days, and Toyota did a better job of it even in the loss. Porsche blew away everyone's expectations, falling 3.5 hours short of a fairy tale ending that would have made Disney cry.
But Le Mans doesn't really do fairy tales. Well, not that fairy tale. Audi's Twitter handle during the event was #welcomechallenges. As usual, Le Mans answered for the entire field.

2014 Toyota 4Runner priced at $32,820*

Wed, 04 Sep 2013

Toyota has announced pricing on its facelifted 2014 4Runner. The rough-and-tumble SUV will be available in three grades: base SR5, upmarket Limited and off-road-ready Trail. Depending on the trim level, buyers will have the choice of rear-drive or one of two different four-wheel drive systems. The sole engine is Toyota's 4.0-liter, 270-horsepower V6.
Entry-level buyers can get an SR5 for $32,820. That includes 17-inch wheels, fabric seats and Toyota's Entune infotainment system. Adding four-wheel drive bumps the price by $2,920, while the Premium Package (SofTex faux leather seats, navigation, sunroof, auto-dimming mirrors and power passenger seat) adds $1,875. All model prices listed do not include $860 for destination and tax.
The Trail starts at $35,725, while the Trail Premium bumps the price to $38,645, adding the same suite of equipment found on the SR5. While it boasts the same standard equipment as the SR5, the Trail is better suited for going off road. A multi-terrain response system comes standard, as does hill-start assist and Toyota's Crawl Control. For an extra sum, buyers can opt for the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, which automatically disconnects the sway bars for better articulation and trail holding.

Toyota launches updated Yaris in Europe, Vitz in Japan [w/videos]

Wed, 23 Apr 2014

Toyota first launched the Yaris in 1999, though that model was sold in the North America as the Echo. The second generation arrived in 2005, replaced by the third in 2011. Sometime next year, Toyota is expected to roll out a new Yaris for North America, to be built in Mexico on the same platform as the next Mazda2. But before that comes to pass, Toyota has introduced a mild facelift for the Yaris in markets other than ours.
With styling cues borrowed from the new Aygo and the Yaris Hybrid-R concept, the new Yaris (for Europe) and Vitz (for Japan) are distinguished by updated styling front and rear. Though the European model bears a more aggressive look than the JDM version, both feature the new X motif that seems to be the new look for the whole family - particularly for small hatchbacks.
The back end has also been revised to incorporate new LED taillights and a (faux) diffuser in the bumper. The cabin, meanwhile, has been redesigned to feel roomier and quieter with upgraded equipment. The suspension has also been refined, and in Europe at least, Toyota will continue to offer the Yaris with a choice of 1.0- or 1.3-liter gasoline engines, 1.4-liter diesel or hybrid powertrains.
