1984 Toyota Supra Mkii P-type on 2040-cars
Lebanon, New Jersey, United States
The 1984 Toyota Supra was a landmark vehicle for Toyota. It melded great looks with an easy to drive, practical sports car that competed directly with the best that was available at the time. The 1984 model came with a host of improvements over the earlier years, including added horsepower to it's 2.8L straight 6 engine, approximately 160 hp and 163 lb/ft of torque. The engine revs smoothly all the way to redline with impressive power delivery even by today's standards. The Supra also received some cosmetic upgrades for this year. The Celica Supra came in two variations, L-Type (Luxury) and P-type (Performance), this one being the more desirable P-type. The P-type had fender flares, unique wheels, better tires and suspension tuning, eight-way seats, and an LSD. Handling was the Supra's clame to fame thanks to it's light weight, excellent weight distribution, and independent suspension setup.
This car runs and drives as it should with a strong engine No squeaks or rattles It has an accident free clean title 124,500 original miles 5 Speed manual transmission Stage 1 clutch New battery Fresh Oil Pop up dvd-player Remote starter Otherwise all original Original Spare wheel in trunk The car has cosmetic rust in various places such as the lower quarter panels on both sides and the sunroof. The frame is solid and has no rust. Driver's seat has small tear in the bolster and there is some staining on the carpets. All the windows go up and down, the sunroof works, it does not leak, and the car starts up every time. It shifts and stops very well. All the gauges and lights work. Minor issue with the right headlight motor, the light gets stuck in the down position but it can be pulled up by hand. Also the air conditioning is not hooked up. Besides this, everything works as it should! Comes with a box of extras. This car is very fun to drive and own. Bid today on this authentic MkII Supra! Message me with any questions. |

Vote to unionize Toyota Canada plant faces delay
Fri, 04 Apr 2014Volkswagen isn't the only automaker with high-profile unionization efforts afoot at one of its North American factories. Unifor, Canada's largest private-sector union, is attempting to organize Toyota's factories in Ontario, reports Reuters. A vote was originally set for next week, but Unifor has apparently found more workers eligible to vote, delaying the proceedings. It hasn't rescheduled the ballot yet, but claims there are 7,500 employees with the right to vote, with over 3,000 having already signed union cards.
Toyota is pushing against organizing, saying that workers already have a payment and benefits near the top of the industry, and noting that it has never laid off a permanent employee in Canada. Unifor has reportedly countered by saying that about a quarter of the workforce is operating under a temporary contract, which receives lower benefits.
The automaker has three factories in Ontario - two in Cambridge and one in Woodstock. To form a union, a majority of eligible employees must vote to join Unifor. If successful, they would be the first wholly owned Toyota plants in North America to be organized. Previous attempts to unionize the Japanese automaker's Canadian factories in 2001 and 2008 failed due to lack of support.
Honda Civic overtakes Toyota Corolla as America's best-selling compact
Mon, 04 Nov 2013The battle to claim October's best-selling compact sedan title has been won by the Honda Civic. The Japanese four-door sold 27,328 units, leaving the Toyota Corolla - September's title holder - in its wake with 23,637 units sold. In terms of year-to-date sales, the Civic sits at 280,899 units, with the Corolla trailing at 257,184 vehicles.
Sitting in third place, separated by a significant gap from the leaders, is the Chevrolet Cruze with 16,087 units sold. The Ford Focus earned fourth, with 15,108 units moved out of showrooms. (It is interesting to note that while the Civic and Corolla have both enjoyed double-digit sales increases year-over-year, the Cruze and Focus have seen significant decreases during the same period.)
Sales of the Hyundai Elantra hit 14,876 units, putting it in fifth place, with the Volkswagen Jetta earning sixth place with 11,710 units. Rounding out the ten top sellers were the Nissan Sentra (8,399 units), Mazda3 (7,647 units), Dodge Dart (5,617 units) and Subaru Impreza/WRX (4,923 units). The Kia Forte (4,706 units) and Volkswagen Golf (2,249 units), eleventh and twelfth respectively, have fallen behind.
Lightweight Toyota GT86 spotted on Nordschleife with carbon panels, upgraded aero
Tue, 24 Jun 2014We've seen (and frankly reported on) so many rumors of more powerful and performance-focused versions of the Subaru BRZ, Toyota GT86 and Scion FR-S at this point that haven't materialized that, at this point, we're almost tired of them. Almost. But what we have here was enough to pique our jaded interests as only a carbon-bodied sports car on the Nürburgring could do.
What we're looking at is, well, we don't quite know, to tell you the truth. What we can tell is that it's a Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S for us) wearing new wheels and a carbon-fiber hood, roof, racing-spec rear wing and subtle lip spoiler. The vents in the hood indicate that the prototype in question could be packing an upgraded engine to go with the lighter body panels and upgraded aero, and the interior (at least as far as we can see) looks pretty well stripped out.
The right-hand drive configuration tells us this is either destined for former territories of the British Empire or for the racetrack. Considering the ride height, full glass and apparent lack of roll cage, our money's on this prototype is being developed for the Japanese Domestic Market, where Toyota badges the sports car simply as the 86. We can always hope, though, that some version makes it into Scion showrooms in North America... we just won't get our hopes up too high.
