THIS IS A 2001 TOYOTA TACOMA SR5 FOUR WHEEL DRIVE XTRA CAB PICKUP TRUCK WITH A BADLY RUSTED FRAME THAT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AND CAN NOT BE DRIVEN SAFELY UNTIL IT IS. THE FRAME ISSUE WAS A TOYOTA FACTORY RECALL BUT THE RECALL HAS EXPIRED AND TOYOTA WILL NOT REPLACE IT NOW. OTHER THAN THE FRAME PROBLEM THE TRUCK IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AND RUNS AND DRIVES PERFECTLY AND NEEDS NOTHING WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE STEERING RACK THAT LEAKS AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AND WILL COST AROUND $200.00. HAS THE 2.4 LITER 4 CYLINDER ENGINE THAT RUNS FLAWLESSLY WITH TONS OF POWER AND DOES NOT BURN A DROP OF OIL. ALSO FEATURES AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH OVERDRIVE, SHIFT ON THE FLY FOUR WHEEL DRIVE UNIT THAT WORKS PERFECT, AIR CONDITIONING, POWER WINDOWS, LOCKS, MIRRORS, BRAKES, STEERING, AM/FM STEREO WITH CD PLAYER, ALLOY WHEELS AND MANY OTHER OPTIONS THAT ARE TOO NUMEROUS TO LIST. 2013 Toyota RAV4 earns 'poor' rating in IIHS small overlap crash test [w/video]
Thu, 11 Jul 2013When the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested a batch of SUVs in its small overlap frontal crash test earlier this year, it held off on putting the Toyota RAV4 in the blender because the new, 2013 model was due to arrive shortly after the test. The new crossover might be better than it was before, but it could still only manage a rating of "Poor" in the test that has been a bugbear for a number of manufacturers.
Among other issues, the IIHS noted that the steering column moved seven inches to the right causing the crash test dummy to practically miss the airbag, the dummy's left foot was trapped in deformed sheetmetal and the dummy's head hit the instrument panel.
The 2013 RAV4 earned the Top Safety Pick rating by scoring well in the Institute's four other tests. A good score in this particular test would have earned it the Top Safety Pick+ rating that is so far only claimed by the 2014 Subaru Forester and 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport in the SUV category. Toyota casts off in Ponam-31 motor yacht [w/video]
Sun, 12 Oct 2014Some Japanese automakers focus purely on cars, while others dabble in all sorts of motorized transportation. Honda, for example, makes everything from motorbikes to jet aircraft. But while Toyota may be known principally for automobiles, it also makes a line of boats. And this is the latest.
The new Toyota Ponam-31 motor yacht is built around an aluminum hull with a flybridge and cockpit rear deck layout, similar to the Carver 32 on which this writer spent his childhood summers. It measures 31 feet overall and is powered by a pair of 3.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engines derived from the Land Cruiser Prado (known in these parts as the Lexus GX 460) but marinized for nautical application. Toyota has even equipped its new Sports Utility Cruiser with such features as Drive Assist and a Virtual Anchor System.
Toyota expects to sell around 15 units of the Ponam-31 through its network of 49 dealers across Japan, with prices starting at 29,700,000 yen (about $27,500 at today's conversion rates). Fewest vehicles ever found eligible for Most American survey
Mon, 30 Jun 2014Once again, the most American car on the market is from an American brand. The Ford F-150 retained its number one spot in Cars.com's annual survey of the most American vehicles, trumping the Toyota Camry, which remains at number two.
Ford taking the top spot is small consolation, though, as the Detroit Three aren't too well represented here. General Motors scored a win at number seven, with the Chevrolet Corvette, while Chrysler squeaked in at number ten, with the Dodge Viper. Outside of those three vehicles, Toyota and Honda dominate the top ten.
What's most remarkable, though, is that there were so few cars available for this year's list.
