endgame

Here we have a 1994 Toyota Tercel DX for sale.

The car has 117k miles and we bought it in 2010. It has a 1.5liter 4-cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. The car was donated to charity and we bought it at an auction. I don't know the exact history of this car, only know that its previous owner purchased it from a Honda dealership with 55k miles in 2006 for 5700 dollars (found the invoice in glove compartment).

The good:
The vehicle's condition can be described as very nice over all, the paint is nice and appears to be original, I don't see any signs of repairs on body panels. This vehicle is a very nice example of a southern car, very nice undercarriage, suspension/drivetrain components, no rust/oxidation. The transmission is tight and the clutch is good. The interior is very solid, showing little signs of wear. For it's age this little car is in very good condition.

The bad:
The car runs and drives but there is a leaking intake valve on one cylinder, therefore it's running rough. I have put some effort into diagnosing this problem and in the process replaced the spark plugs, ignition wires and distributor rotor in order to eliminate the electrical side of the problem. After that I have bought a remanufactured cylinder head. That was in 2010. I have spent the last 3 and 1/2 years abroad and during that time the car was parked in the garage. Unfortunately I don't have time to do the repair now, so that's why the car is offered up for sale. The replacement cylinder head is included. The car can be driven as it is now but the engine is a bit low on power which is understandable. The car starts right up, it does not smoke, it does not overheat. Everything else on the car works as it should and this little Toyota can again be a reliable, small and efficient vehicle for many years to come.

If you are at least a bit mechanically inclined you can even do the repair on your own, it's not that difficult. You can even follow step by step how it's supposed to be done.

I will consider all reasonable offers.

Terms and Conditions:
The vehicle is sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS. I will not ship/deliver. Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping. Any shipping must be arranged and paid for by the buyer. Full payment required within 7 days after end of listing. I accept cash in person when picking up the car or bank wire transfer.

Gazoo heads to the N"urburgring with Lexus LFA Code X

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

You'd be forgiven for thinking just because the Lexus LFA has ended its production run (it's been over a year now) that Toyota would have ceased its development. You'd be forgiven, but Gazoo Racing is here to tell you you'd still be wrong.
One of Toyota's many works racing teams, Gazoo is returning to the 24-hour endurance race at the Nürburgring this year with a trio of entries. One is based on the Toyota GT86 (which we know as the Scion FR-S), and one is essentially the same LFA that it's entered in years past. But the third vehicle is dubbed Code X.
It's also based on the LFA, but its 4.8-liter V10 engine has been bored out to 5.3 liters, raising its output to untold levels. It's got a full carbon-fiber chassis and a range of other enhancements that Gazoo isn't telling us about just yet, but they should turn the LFA Code X from a road-going supercar beyond a racecar and into a rolling research lab. Considering that Gazoo has been racing at the 'Ring since 2007 and fielding versions of the LFA there since 2008, it'll be interesting to see how the Code X version fares.

Toyota officially outsells GM, VW through first three quarters

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

When it comes to global vehicle deliveries, the term "Big Three" doesn't apply to Ford, Chrysler and General Motors, but instead Toyota, GM and Volkswagen - in that order - through the third quarter of 2013. Toyota sold 7.41-million vehicles through the third quarter and is on track to deliver more vehicles this year than GM and VW, which sold 7.25-million and 7.03-million, respectively, through the same period, Bloomberg reports.
During the third quarter, from July to September, Toyota's 2.5-million deliveries helped to push it higher than its closest competitors this year. In that period, GM delivered 2.4-million vehicles while VW posted 2.33-million deliveries.
Part of the reason behind Toyota's and other Japanese automakers resurgence globally is the weakened yen, which can be attributed to policies made by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe since he took office in December 2012. Many refer to those monetary easing policies as 'Abenomics,' which has led some, such as Ford, to call Japan a currency manipulator and is a big reason why the US is lobbying to oppose Japan's entry into the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

Toyota restructuring US operations, possibly moving to Texas

Sun, 27 Apr 2014

According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, Toyota is poised to announce Monday that it is restructuring its US operations, which may include plans to relocate some of its operations to Texas. Toyota Motor Sales has been located in California since 1957, and is responsible for North American sales, marketing, and distribution for Toyota, Lexus and Scion. According to Toyota literature, its Torrance operations presently employs 6,156 workers and represents a $2.3-billion investment.
Workers in Toyota's Torrance offices were abuzz about the possible relocation to Texas. One young offspring of a Toyota employee even posted to Twitter that her parents warned about the upcoming move, and she said she's refusing to go.
Rumors at one point had Toyota settling in Richardson, TX, just outside Plano. But Autoblog talked to Richardson Mayor Laura Maczka, who said she would be thrilled if that were true, but has not heard anything on the subject. Autoblog also emailed with Bill Sutherland, a city councilman in Torrance, CA, who said, "To date the only info I have is what I have read in the paper expecting a press release Monday."
