1968 Vw Bug 1500 4spd, 2nd Owners Since 1975, Clean Nice Driver, Great Condition on 2040-cars
Edmonds, Washington, United States
1968 Volkswagen BUG - Ruby 2nd Owners - 39 Year Ownership Thank you for checking out our little 1968 VW Bug. We have owned Ruby since 1975, we bought her from the 1st owner in San Anselmo, near San Francisco. I was in graduate school at the time, and really needed a good reliable vehicle, and this bug fit the ticket. After I graduated, we moved it back up to Seattle most of its life since we owned it. We did move down to California around 2005, were I was teaching at a university for a few years. Ruby been our daily driver for many years, being retired now, my wife and I (now 71 years young, my wife won't tell you how old she is, lol) have decided to let this nice little bug go after 39 years of ownership, it has been a great relationship. We have decided to want to do some traveling, so we are willing to let go of the reigns. I do have other photos, that I can email you as well. It does have new interior, very clean inside, NON Smoker vehicle. The headliner, is nice but does have a one small rip about 2" long in the rear. Overall the interior is very clean and we replaced many things to keep him looking good. It does have the Rear side windows that pop open. We replaced door gaskets, and hood gasket, it does not leak inside, very dry. We had it painted about 6 years ago. Ruby has always been Red, hence her name, no color change. The older paint was starting to show its age, had very minor dings in it, and scatches, but we decided that we would get her looking good again, so we had it professionally painted by a local shop. It looks very good, has minor chips from being driven, because we love to drive this bug. There are a couple small dings, on the drivers side rear fender, and one on the hood, minor but they are there. Mechanically it is in very good shape, the engine has been rebuilt a few years ago, it is a stock 1500 like it came with originally, we had it replaced, the engine has about 80K on it currently, but runs like a top, we have always had it serviced at local shops, and keeping the Valves adjusted is very important, so I always made sure it was done, even learned to do it myself during oil changes. The engine runs very smooth, and has good power. Has minor little oil leak, that if you know VW's this is pretty common, nothing to be concerned about. The transmission shifts very nicely, stays in gear, does not pop out. Transmission is in very good shape and trans axle boots are in good shape no cracked, the transmission has a little minor whine, but nothing major, works very good . The brakes are in great shape. The tires, are about 60% tread on them. I am very confident that someone could fly in and drive it home. Odometer reads 83111, but it has rolled over. Shipping may be cheaper, but I do trust it very much. Give me a call if you would like to talk about it more. Thanks, Glenn and Judy 425-232-9911 Clean Washington Title, owned since 1975. 1. Runs good (83,117 on odometer & Miles on new engine) Additional items |

1000-hp Mk1 VW Golf is terrifyingly cool
Tue, 04 Jun 2013There are plenty of things to love about the Mk1 Volkswgen Golf. The machine's horsepower isn't one of them. From the factory, the little hatch cranked a breathy 112 horsepower from the most robust form of its 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. Boba motoring, however, has taken that figure and multiplied it by a factor of nearly 10. If 1,000 horsepower sounds terrifying in a machine with a wheelbase of just 94.5 inches, it should. A massive Garrett GTX4202R turbo force-feeds the little mill through a tweaked 16-valve KR head. The crew calls the beast the 16Vampir, and we think that's fitting.
Of course, we'd wager you quit reading right about the time you set your eyes on that headline. Those of you who've stuck around this long can point yourselves below to see the maniacal creation in action. You won't be disappointed.
Volkswagen Golf Variant Concept R-Line puts the sport in SportWagen
Wed, 06 Mar 2013With the introduction of the newest Volkswagen Golf Variant, we get an early look at what will most likely be the next-generation Jetta SportWagen here in the US. To further wet our appetities, VW is now teasing something a little sportier with the Concept R-Line. Looking the part of a GTI wagon (or a stretched Golf R), the Golf Variant Concept R-Line has a production-ready appearance that has us hoping we'll see this sporty wagon sooner rather than later.
The R-Line starts off with a new fascia that isn't quite as aggressive as the recently introduced GTI, but it gives the new styling some extra punch. Below the fascia is a lower splitter that visually carries back into the rocker panel extensions, and the rear of the car gets some bright exhaust tips and a rear diffuser. The Lapis Blue Metallic paint job probably does enough on its own to add a sporty flair to the Golf wagon, and it's all finished off with 18-inch split-spoke wheels. Inside, the Concept R-Line shows off sport seats wrapped in carbon leather featuring blue nappa inserts in the middle.
Rightfully so, VW brought the Concept R-Line to Geneva with its TDI and 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. A sporty, all-wheel-drive diesel wagon? Yes, please. Scroll down for the full press blast with all the details.
Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept is a 201-mph hot hatch
Sun, 20 Apr 2014This, friends, is what happens when you shoehorn 395 horsepower into a Golf. You get a three-door hatch that will happily scurry to 62 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 201 mph. Oh yes, we like you, Golf R 400 Concept.
As we explained in our original post, the R 400 is the long-awaited successor to bonkers Golf creations like the GTI W12 from 2007 and, more recently, the Design Vision GTI. It's powered by the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder found in a number of Volkswagen (and Audi, SEAT and Skoda) products, although it's been heavily massaged to pump out 332 pound-feet of torque along side its amplified horsepower.
Naturally, it's been lowered and now rides on 19-inch wheels. Outside of those changes, though, mums the word on suspension and chassis enhancements. While this is a bummer, the striking looks of the Golf R 400 more than make up for it.
